GRAND KNIGHTS MESSAGE

My Brothers All,
I cannot believe half of my term as your Grand Knight is over.
Thanks to Paul Basileo and his C&B Book committee we are
once again financially solvent. Hopefully we can continue to stay
solvent with fund raisers in February and May.
In January we will have the free throw contest chaired by Paul
Basileo.

In service
to one.
In service
to all.

The New data system will be installed given us Wi-Fi, TV and

updated phone service. We are moving into the 21st Century. The TV
set was donated by one of our members and wishes to remain
nameless. Thank you brother.
I would also like to run a Family Communion Breakfast for the
benefit of St. Anthonys Parish, if we can get a chairman to run it. We
are hoping to run an Appreciation Pizza Party for all the Altar Servers
in all three parishes, Bill Benson is Chairman.
We can only do good things if good men step up. Be a true
Knight and get involve. I would like to thank all my brothers who have
supported me the last 6 months.
The women of the Lady Club have been a major part of making
my term easy. Thank you Ladies.

Have a healthy New Year.

May God bless you and your families.

Yours in Christ,

S.K. Frederick S. Hess

Today, the Knights of Columbus is providentially positioned to play a key role in the new alliance between the Church and the family called for by Pope Francis What
is necessary now is our greater involvement in the renewal of parish and family life. -Supreme Knight Carl Anderson
It is in the parish that one becomes engaged with the Church community, learns how to become a disciple of Christ, is nurtured by Scripture, is nourished by the sacraments, and ultimately becomes an evangelizer. Successful evangelization and catechetical initiatives must be focused on the parish. - USCCB

Through the order-wide Building the Domestic Church initiative, Knights and their families have greater opportunities to participate in
a variety of activities that promote the New Evangelization, strengthen our parishes and grow the Order.
Building the Domestic Church
Knights of Columbus has always been an organization dedicated to the well-being and support of Catholic family life. The family is
the first and primary place where we experience and are formed in our Catholic faith. By building upon our current programs and
activities, the Knights of Columbus continues to promote the family as a domestic church where husbands and wives, parent and
children, grow in their knowledge and practice of the Catholic Faith. In order to perform its important mission of evangelization, each
family needs to find support in the sacramental life of the parish.
Strengthening our Parishes
Knights of Columbus councils have always responded to the most urgent needs of the Church, particularly through charitable and
social outreach. In order to support the evangelization of family life today, our councils must be even more fully integrated into our
parishes. As the worlds largest Catholic fraternal and family organization, we have a responsibility to dedicate our time, talent and
resources to ensuring that our parishes our beacons of the new evangelization.
Domestic Church Activities
In order to support the evangelization of family life today, each council must be even more fully integrated with our Catholic parishes. As members of the worlds largest Catholic fraternal and family organization, we have a responsibility to dedicate our time, talent
and resources to ensuring that our parishes are beacons of the new evangelization and that our families are supported and
strengthened by our activities.
In order to highlight the importance of this new initiative and its impact on our mission, the Supreme Council has announced that this
year, at least four major council programs must be designated as Domestic Church activities to earn the Columbian Award.

District Deputys Message

Brothers and Sisters,
A New Year is upon us and with its arrival is the opportunity to turn the page on 2016, whether it was a good year or not,
and start fresh in 2017. With the New Year also comes January and we now get to look forward to frozen days, long nights, digging
out from the snow and all of the wonderful things that come with a New York Winter. But Im not complaining (Ok, maybe a little), it
comes with the territory. I ask you all (myself included) to take a minute to think about what you can do in the New Year to become a
better Knight, a better Man, a better Husband, a better Father, a better Uncle or simply a better member of your Parish.
As with every Organization, the beginning of the Year is a time when Forms must be filed and information on the Past Year is
gathered (think IRS). Id like to just take a few seconds to explain how we do it in the K of C. In our Order, this means that each individual Council must Report all of their charitable acts, both monetary and physical, to our Supreme Council. This is known as the
Report of Fraternal Activity, or simply the #1728 Form. This allows Supreme to add up ALL of the things that ALL of the Councils in
the World are doing so that they can Report all of the Hours and Dollars spent by the members throughout the Year. For example, if
you go to the Supreme Web-Site, you can see where it will say something like In 2015, the Knights of Columbus set a new all-time
record for the 17th consecutive year. Our charitable donations for 2015 were $175,079,192. In addition, we achieved our highest
level of charitable service in 2015, volunteering more than 73.5 million hours of service. This is how they gather this information. The
Officers of your Councils are responsible for getting together and putting all this information down each year and summiting it to Supreme by January 31st.. This is just another example of how your Grand Knight and his Officers are working hard behind the scenes
for your Council.
Another thing that we must all begin to look towards as we round the bend and begin the second half of the Columbian Year is
Membership Retention. You all hear me speak about how important it is to recruit New Members all of the time. But what about our
EXISTING MEMBERS? What are we doing to keep our current members INVOLVED and ACTIVE in our Councils? Do you have an
idea on a new, or even an old, way of getting the members involved? Some of you more Senior Members, is there something that
the Council USED to do that was fun and successful but no longer does? Let your Grand Knight know. Maybe he wasnt even
around back in those days and isnt aware of it. And you as Members of your Councils, what are YOU doing to be an ACTIVE MEMBER in your Council? It doesnt matter if you are a new member or have been a member of the Council for decades. It is your responsibility to get involved. Thats why you joined, no? To be involved, to help your Parish, to help your community. Even just a little
help can make a big difference to lift the burden off of those 10 or 12 members who are doing everything. And of course your Council
is always looking for new Officers. Can you step up and become a COUNCIL OFFICER? I know that you can do it. Its not that difficult (after all I did it).
I look forward to seeing you all in the New Year, and for many Years to come.
Vivat Jesus

The Feast of Epiphany
The Epiphany is the manifestation of Jesus as Messiah
of Israel, Son of God and Savior of the world. The great feast of
Epiphany celebrates the adoration of Jesus by the wise men
(magi) from the East, together with his baptism in the Jordan and
the wedding feast at Cana in Galilee.

the Jews and receiving from them the messianic promise as contained in the Old Testament.
The Epiphany shows that "the full number of the nations" now takes its "place in the family of the patriarchs", and
acquires Israelitica dignitas (is made "worthy of the heritage of
Israel").
The Holy Family

In the magi, representatives of the neighboring pagan

religions, the Gospel sees the first-fruits of the nations, who welcome the good news of salvation through the Incarnation. The
magi's coming to Jerusalem in order to pay homage to the king
of the Jews shows that they seek in Israel, in the messianic light
of the star of David, the one who will be king of the nations. Their
coming means that pagans can discover Jesus and worship him
as Son of God and Savior of the world only by turning towards

Prayer for the Canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney

God, our Father, protector of the poor and
defender of the widow and orphan, you called
your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be
an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the
young to the generous service of their neighbor.
Through the example of his life and virtue may
we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely,
fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the
inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your
love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and
the outcast.
We humbly ask that you glorify your servant Father Michael J.
McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will.
Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make
your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Our Father, Hail
Mary, Glory be.
