REGULAR MEETING OF THE ANTWERP TOWHSHIP BOARD

TUESDAY APRIL 9, 2002
7:00 PM
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Supervisor Daniel J. Ruzick.
The Pledge of Allegiance to the flag was given.
Board Members Present: Bruce Cutting, Ronald Derhammer, Virg Hendrickson, Bonnie Osborne and
Daniel J. Ruzick.
Board Member Absent: None
Also Present:

Fifteen guests.

Motion by Derhammer, second by Cutting to approve the agenda as presented.

Motion carried.

All voted in favor.

Motion by Osborne, second by Derhammer to approve the minutes of the March 12, 2002 meeting as
presented.
All voted in favor.
Motion carried.
Action on Planning Commission Recommendations:
a. Motion by Derhammer, second by Osborne to grant approval of Paw Paw Seventh Day Adventist
Church request for an addition 30 x 46 on south side with additional parking and also to create new
entrance on north side. Property address is 60490 M-40 Highway, Paw Paw MI 49079. Property
number is 80-02-019-006-00, tax plate number is 282, section 19 and is zoned Commercial.

b.

Motion by Derhammer, second by Osborne to grant approval of Mark Boven Special Use request to
develop an open space residential plat on property located on 30th street, south of Red Arrow
Highway. Property number is 80-02-008-015-02, tax plate number 125 in section 8 and is currently
zoned AG/Low Density Residential.

Motion by Derhammer, second by Ruzick to approve pre-preliminary to develop an open space
residential plat on property located on 30th street, south of Red Arrow Highway. (Same numbers and
address as above in first motion.)

c.

Motion by Derhammer, second by Cutting to grant approval of Ron & Dorothy Verleger River Bend
Site Plan request to develop single family site Condos as per map. Property is located on 63rd
Avenue, Lawton. Property number is 80-02-022-031-01, tax plate number is 333 in section 22 and is
currently zoned AG/Low Density.

d.

Motion by Osborne, second by Cutting to grant approval of Howard Overbeek and Mike Peter site
plan request to construct a storage building 84 x 40. Property is located at 24685 Red Arrow
Highway. Property number is 80-020-002-038-30, tax plate number is 20-E & 20-E4 in section 2 and
is currently zoned Commercial.

New Business:
a. Motion by Cutting, second by Osborne to approve, permission to sign be given to Township
Supervisor Daniel J. Ruzick for the Antwerp Sunshine Library Design Development Review (ref)
Letter dated March 21, 2002.
All voted in favor.
Motion carried.
b. Motion by Hendrickson, second by Cutting to accept the bid from Mark Purshard Welding to
install a hand rail for the front entrance of the Township Office and the Sunshine Library. Price is
$1100.00.
All voted in favor. Motion carried.
c. Motion by Cutting, second by Derhammer to approve, permission to sign be given to Township
Supervisor Daniel J. Ruzick for the Paw Paw Fire Board Agreement.
All voted in favor.
Motion carried.
d. Motion by Derhammer, second by Cutting to approve Wade-Trim Proposal Master Plan. All voted
in favor.
Motion carried.
Correspondence/Announcements
a.
Announced, Michigan State University Van Buren County Earth Day will be held April 20, 2002

Attorney Harold Schuitmaker: report is attached.
Treasurer Osborne, reports $50,000.00 in the general fund.
Building Activity Hendrickson, reports no report.
Sunshine Branch Library Osborne, reports Sunshine Branch Library is holding National Library Week
Fair 2002 starting Monday April 15 through Saturday April 20, 2002.
Lawton Fire Department Cutting, reports the meeting was rather short, the new truck is 99% complete and
will be ready in the next few weeks. Lawton Fire Dept. would like to acknowledge Bill Cronenwett Sr. for the
outstanding rescue, bringing a person out of a house fire.
Mattawan Fire Department Hendrickson, reports the meeting was rather short,
Cemeteries Hendrickson, reports three burials for the month of March.
Mattawan Quick Response Osborne, reports 21 calls in March 17 in Antwerp Township.
Planning Commission Derhammer, reports same as discussed earlier.
Zoning Board of Appeals Osborne, reports there was no meeting.
Recommendation from the committee on Antwerp Township, Antwerp Sunshine Library and Mattawan Fire
Department Bills. Motion by Cutting, second by Derhammer to accept bills for payment in the amount of
$40,212.11.
