The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

A Disease? A Fate? which cause one of the guy named Benjamin Button, one of the main
character in the movie called The Curious Case of Benjamin Button face a problem of agingbackward. The movie was produced in 2008 directed by David Fincer . In the movie, Benjamin
Button was born with a old body full with wrinkle. When He was born,his mom was died, so his
father drop him at nursing home. This cause Benjamins life has go through a lot of conflict since
he was young. Even though Benjamins physiology was born as an old man, his mind still
progress and developed same as other children infant. However, during his childhood period. He
use to have a limited of the worldview, causing from his old appearance. Thus, as he get older his
appearance get younger. This essay will discuss on each period of his development including
infancy, childhood, adolescence and adulthood or an old age.
In the movie during the stage of his infancy, the movie does not show any much more
detail about him. However, there are two main theories occur in the movie which are Babys
capacity and Perceptual development. Primary, Babys capacity is a theory of infant which have
a mental and physical ability or aptitude skill to adapt and survive. This theory link to the very
first scene of the movie. When Benjamins father grab him and ran so fast in the middle of the
crowed who celebrate the end of the war which it is very loud and noisy. Benjamin started to cry
so hard.There is also another scene which relate to this theory which is while Mrs. Queenie

accidentally step on him and Benjamin suddenly with crying out loud. Both of these scenes
prove Babys capacity theory by because of the infant can be able to speck or tell other while he
feel unsafe or hurt,so most of the infant respond how they feel by crying or making some sound
that they can able to make. Secondly, perceptual development theory which is a theory of
newborn brain can not itself response to environment stimulus like hearing, color, movement,
taste or smell. In the movie when Mrs. Queenie introduce Benjamin to all people in the Nursing
home when the camera zoom in,he smile when many people like him.
Introduce to the period of childhood, there are many development occur in Benjamins
life. The three main theories which clearly be seen are Language development, Cognitive
development and Representational thought. To begin with, Language development is how each
children in each age commonly started when he or she is about 1 years old, develop their speech
which the children likely to imitate family members or media. It link to the scene when
Benjamin had his supper and Benjamin try to speck the word Molasses followed Mr.Weathers
which related to the theory of two years old child that commonly speck a pair of words. Next, the
first and second state Assimilation and Accommodation under the theories of Cognitive theories
occur, the first step is when he thought that the flock is a toy that he can play. However, the
second state also occur, he realize after Mrs. Queenie told him to stop because it is not a toy like
he think. Lastly, the theory of Representational thought which is ability of a child to picture

something in their mind. It related to the scene when Mr. Oti leave him to get back to his home
and he be able to get back to the nursing house by his own.
Moving to the age of Adolescence, there are a lot of problem going on in his life. There
are 2 mainly development theories which is Personal development, Levisions theory of male
development, Social development theory and Sexual development. When Benjamin was
eighteen, he decided to go out from the nursing house . This action is related to the theory of
Personal development and Levisions theory of male development which teenager likely to be
independent form their family and other. Next,Social development is the process where people
learn to acceptable and unacceptable to live with other. It related to many scene of the movie,
one of it is the scene where he live with Captain Mike. He use to follow what is Captains mike
action and behavior. Benjamin started to drink an alcohol or even get to have a sex with
prostitute. This scene strongly shown the impact of social environment to the teenager. Finally, A
big picture of Sexual development is also occur in this age which cause Benjamin have a stage of
Spermarche or a period during male achieve his first ejaculation.
Lastly, entering the stage of adulthood, old age and dying. Benjamin become more
mature comparing to other stage before. There are about which is Autonomy, Job satisfaction.
Levisions theory, Eriksons theory and Alzheimers disease. Autonomy is ability to take care of
themselves and be able to make their own decision while Job satisfaction is a period where adult
like to find a job that comfort, financial reward or more. These two theories related to the scene

of the movie where Benjamin decided to leave the job in the ship which got crossfire from the
war and continue his father business which were more permanently. Not only Levisions theory
appear in the stage of adolescence, it also appear in the stage of adulthood in Benjamins life. It
link to a big picture of the scene when he meet Daisy again and dream about his future life with
Daisy. Moreover, when he entering an old age stage. He realize the problem with himself and his
family members that his appearance will soon be like a child, this action related to Eriksons
theory which is Moratorium. Moratorium is to know problem but do not solve it. Benjamin know
his problem but he end up with escape the problem by leave his family behind. Finally, when he
was likely to be at the stage of the end of his life, the disease called Alzheimers disease which
mostly occur when people entering the old age. Alzheimers disease made him forget about
other, including Daisy.
To conclude, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button have a interested plot that different
form other. Benjamin Button the main character in this stories played an important role in every
scene. The movie also have a good flow and manage his development, with not only in
appearance but including his psychology development which make this movie more interested to
watch.
