Based on APIs Spec Q1, Specification for Quality Programs for the Petroleum,
Petrochemical and Natural Gas Industry, complying companies that manufacture
products or provide industry with services can apply for API Spec Q1 registration.
API Spec Q1 was written by the oil and natural gas industry for the oil and natural
gas industry. By meeting the additional quality system requirements of API Spec
Q1 (beyond those outlined in ISO 9001), which are of particular interest to the

API Spec Q2 Registration Program


API Spec Q2 is the first international quality management system standard
for service supply organizations offered by the American Petroleum Institute.
Published in December 2011, API Spec Q2, Specification for Quality Management
System Requirements for Service Supply Organizations for Petroleum and Natural
Gas Industries outlines fundamental quality management system requirements
that are critical to upstream operations. The industry-written specification
applies to critical activities such as well construction, intervention, production,
abandonment, well servicing, equipment repair and maintenance, and inspection
activities.

API Individual Certification Programs (ICP)


APIs Individual Certification Programs for Pressure Vessel Inspectors, Process
Piping Inspectors, Aboveground Storage Tank Inspectors, Ultrasonic (UT) Examiners,
Refractory Personnel, and Tank Entry Supervisors emphasize professional
credibility and process integrity. In addition, ICP has three supplemental
certifications on Corrosion and Materials, Welding and Metallurgy, and RiskBased Inspection to add additional value to current certified inspectors. These
certification programs enable professional inspectors to play an active role
in improving industry health and safety, environmental performance, ensuring
compliance and self-regulation, and strengthening management control and
internal inspection capabilities. APIs new Source Inspector Certification
Program recognizes individuals who perform the important task of supplier
quality surveillance. These Source Inspectors examine fabricated and
manufactured equipment and materials at the suppliers facilities and confirm
whether or not the equipment and materials meet with the purchasers specifications. ICP applicants must qualify to participate in the examination process.

API Engine Oil Licensing and Certification System (EOLCS)


A cooperative effort between the oil and additive industries and vehicle and
engine manufacturers, EOLCS is a voluntary licensing and certification program
designed to help engine oil marketers show that their products meet strict
performance requirements. Todays savvy consumers look for the API Service
Symbol and API Certification Mark when they buy engine oil.

API Diesel Exhaust Fluid Certification Program


To help consumers locate diesel exhaust fluid that meets diesel engine
manufacturer requirements, API has established the Diesel Exhaust Fluid
Certification Program, a program that certifies and monitors the quality of
diesel exhaust fluid intended for use in Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR)
equipped cars and trucks. Diesel exhaust fluid marketers that certify that they
meet the performance requirements developed by diesel engine manufacturers
may be licensed by API to display the API Diesel Exhaust Fluid Certification
Mark. The Mark identifies fluids meeting the performance requirements for
proper SCR operation.

API Perforator Design Registration Program


API Perforator Design Registration strengthens the credibility of recorded and
reported test data from producers of specific Perforator System Designs. The
program is based on test procedures found in API Recommended Practice 19B,
Recommended Practice for Evaluation of Well Perforators.

API WorkSafe
How do operators know their workers and contractors have been trained and
tested to industry safety standards? Its called API WorkSafe. The three webbased programs in API WorkSafe include training modules and qualification
exams, all based on API safety documents. The first program is for service
station contractor personnel based on API Recommended Practice 1646.
This training allows operators a way to make sure their workers and contractors
have been trained to industry safety standards. The second program is for E&P
onshore operations workers and is based on the API E&P Onshore Operations
Safety Handbook. The third program is Class A, B and C Operator Training for
underground storage tanks. Working in conjunction with Antea Group, this
web-based training meets federal and state regulatory requirements for UST
Class A, B and C operator training. When we all work together to improve safety,
everybody works safe.

API eMaintenance
API eMaintenance is the simple way to review, choose, order, track and pay for
service station and convenience store maintenance, all while improving your
bottom line. Your sites and contractors can take control by having access to the
information that is relevant to them. With your own dedicated web portal, your
sites can place a new ticket, check the status of any ticket and submit feedback
for the contractor. Calls are automatically routed by the system to the correct
contractor, reducing the need for third party helpdesks. Contractors can choose
to receive ticket requests and updates by email, fax or text message, whichever
is most convenient for them. They can also manage their tickets via a dedicated
web portal and update the status of a ticket in real-time using the automated
phone system when they arrive on site or complete a job.

Each year, API hosts dozens of public meetings, conferences and workshops
