Slide 2 :
Introduction
We continue in our study today with our G.R.A.C.E.
Gospel Presentation. So we have two of our 5 letters
done now. So lets receipt these together this morning.
Then their Bible verse. As I had indicated, we will do
each letter each week, adding one letter per week until
we have the whole presentation down pat!
Let me just remind you again that the GRACE
presentation is based on Ephesians 2:8-10, verses that
Slide 3 (Eph 2:8-10 NASB) For by grace you have been
saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is
the gift of God; {9} not as a result of works, that no
one should boast. {10} For we are His workmanship,
created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God
prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Soooo... Is everyone ready?...
Lets say the first statement and repeat its Bible
Verse.
God loves you and wants you to have a full and
meaningful life!
Alright!! Excellent!! Now the Bible Verse.
OK.. So the Bible verse to support this statement is?
In John 3:16 the Bible says...
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only
begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should
not perish, but have eternal life.
Now, this weeks statement.

R- Rejected/Rebelled
Man has Rebelled against God and Rejected Gods
leadership. The Bible calls this sin. The penalty for
Sin is death.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short
of the glory of God, (NASB)
Fantastic!! OK... So lets keep practicing those. If you
will say them when you wake up each day, say it again
at breakfast, say them at both of your breaks each day
and say them at lunch, then say them at dinner and one
final time before you go to bed each night, that will be 7
times per day, for 7 days each week... I believe that you
will learn them!!
Slide 6
OK... So we understand now that God Loves us and
wants us to have a full and meaningful life.... We also
understand that WE, mankind, have rebelled against
God and Rejected Gods leadership over our lives.
We know that the Bible makes it clear that this is
called sin and the penalty for Sin is death. But Praise
be to God, He provides Atonement through Jesus Christ
His Son, for our Sin!!
So I invite you take your Bible and turn with me to
Romans 5 and lets look today at the first 11 verses as I
share with you a message I have written entitled,
Atonement, God Saving Man!. I am going to read
to you today out of the KJV of the Bible...

God Demonstrates, God Justifies, God Reconciles, This IS Atonement

(Rom 5:1-11 KJV) Therefore being justified by faith,

we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus
Christ: {2} By whom also we have access by faith
into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope
of the glory of God. {3} And not only so, but we glory
in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh
patience; {4} And patience, experience; and
experience, hope: {5} And hope maketh not ashamed;
because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts
by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. {6} For
when we were yet without strength, in due time
Christ died for the ungodly. {7} For scarcely for a
righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a
good man some would even dare to die. {8} But God
commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we
were yet sinners, Christ died for us. {9} Much more
then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be
saved from wrath through him. {10} For if, when we
were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the
death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we
shall be saved by his life. {11} And not only so, but
we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by
whom we have now received the atonement.
There it is!! That critical and compelling word.
ATONEMENT! What in the world does it mean?
It is a rich word, a powerful word, a word FULL of
meaning, that even transcends what we could think or
understand!

God Demonstrates, God Justifies, God Reconciles, This IS Atonement

In the Hebrew, that is your Old Testament, we find

the word 94 times in 82 vss. This is understandable, as
the people of Israel had to obtain their Atonement
through sacrifices and offerings to God. Not only did
each individual person have to come and bring a
sacrifice or offering for their individual sin, but the High
Priest had to also provide sacrifices to Atone for the
Sins of the nation.
We find the Greek word for Atonement in 4 places in
the NT...
So what does the it mean... The Hebrew Word is
defined kaw-far' is defined as follows:
A primitive root; to cover, figuratively to expiate or
condone, to placate or cancel: - appease, make (an)
atonement, cleanse, disannul, forgive, be merciful,
pacify, pardon, reconcile
In the Greek the Word used is kat-al-lag-ay'
to exchange, that is, restoration to (the divine) favor:
- atonement, reconciliation (-ing).
So in these definitions, we see the totality of the idea of
Atonement... we see the righteousness of Christ,
covering our sin, and Jesus Himself Exchanging
Himself for us, that we might be cleansed from our sin,
we the ones having the sentence of death, but Jesus
presenting Himself to the executioner, so that Gods
wrath might be appeased and we might be Restored to
right relationship with God! AMAZING!!!
So the first thing that you see this morning in this
passage beloved, is that (Read the point)

God Demonstrates, God Justifies, God Reconciles, This IS Atonement

Point I :

God Demonstrates His Love

And that love is Sufficient!

Rom 5:8

Isnt that what verse 8 says... Rom 5:8

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in
that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
God doesnt just talk about love!! God Demonstrates
His Love!!! Gods love is SOOOO BIG... SOOO
Powerful, SOOO overarching that it envelopes us in
the Bliss of Forgiveness as we believe and Trust in
Jesus Christ!
But note all the verses prior to vs 8... In these verses,
Paul makes it clear that the Sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the
Very Demonstration of the perfect and complete love
of God, is Sufficient!! Nothing Else is necessary...
Look back at the text.
< < < Read: Romans 5:1-7 > > >
Now you might think that this is odd for the word
Atonement or in the Greek only shows up 4
times.... given what Christ has done, surely the word
would show up many more times in the NT....
But in fact it is only there 4 times and I believe it is
not really needed but once!! Why would this be? Well,
perhaps we should have read a little further in Romans
5, for in vss 18-19 we find the answer...
< < < Read: Romans 5:18-19 > > >
Did you hear that... By one man sin entered into the
world and infected every man, woman and child! Just

God Demonstrates, God Justifies, God Reconciles, This IS Atonement

like Romans 3:23 last week told us!!! So the truth is,
ALL of us need atonement for sin!
This resulted in the need for many sacrifices,
performed over and over and over... That is why we
would find so many uses of the Hebrew word
kaw-far. But the verse continued and revealed that just
as through one man sin came, through one man...// and I
would add the God-man, Atonement came for the
many!!! The act of Jesus Christ provided for all who
would believe Atonement for their sin!.. One Act
Sufficient for all!! No more repeated sacrifices, for the
ONE and ONLY TRULY Atoning Sacrifice is that
which Jesus Christ Himself offered through His Own
life!!! IT IS THE Reconciliation for OUR sin!!
NO OTHER SACRIFICE IS SUFFICIENT!!
But there is a 2nd thing that I want you to see...
Point II : God Justifies Believers
Gods is Timely

Rom 5:9

What did it say... there in verse 9...

(Rom 5:9 NASB) Much more then, having now been
justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the
wrath of God through Him.
Having been justified by His blood...
Listen friends... I know it isnt a popular topic today
but the blood of Jesus Christ, His death on the cross is
what was required to pay the price for sin. What does
our Letter A Bible verse say?

20150507M24 "Atonement, God Saving Man! Romans 5:1-11"

God Demonstrates, God Justifies, God Reconciles, This IS Atonement

For the wages of sin is death....

HELLO... thats what you get... When you sow sin in
your life... and EVERYONE does... then you reap death!
Somebody has to die! Somebody has to pay!
The tragic thing is, that we are being told that we
have to do something to get or keep salvation! That is
the Devils lie. There is nothing I can do that is
acceptable to God.. Nothing I can do that can rectify my
sin! Nothing I can do that would redeem me. Thats
why verse 6 says that I am HELPLESS! I cant do
ANYTHING for myself!!
When a child is born, if its mother abandons that
child, the child is helpless and can not do anything. If
someone doesnt intervene, that child will die of
starvation or of the elements, one or the other... that is
the result of a child left alone who is helpless.
But verse 6 says that at the RIGHT time, Christ
died for the ungodly!!
And in so doing, He provided the Justification that
man needs, So the DEMONSTRATED LOVE of God,
provides the JUSTIFICATION we need and through that
JUSTIFICATION, we are thus RECONCILED to
God... Look back at vs 10... what does it say?....
Rom 5:10 For if while we were enemies we were
reconciled to God through the death of His Son,
much more, having been reconciled, we shall be
saved by His life.
Point III: God Reconciles Enemies
His Reconciliation is Perfect

Rom 5:10

20150507M24 "Atonement, God Saving Man! Romans 5:1-11"

God Demonstrates, God Justifies, God Reconciles, This IS Atonement

The moment we choose to put our faith in Jesus Christ,

to believe that He is the Son of God, God Himself and
the Only way to heaven, the separation, the
disconnection, the division between us and God is
restored!
Its hard to believe, but as this passage says and
others in the Holy Bible, we were actually enemies of
God!! And yet... even as enemys His Love was Greater
than our Sin...
Even while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us!
And so the truth is found for every non-believer at the
end of Romans 6:23... Yes... I know... I know...
The wages of Sin IS DEATH!!!... BUT.... BUT...
The Free Gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our
Lord!! That is the Gospel.. That is the GOOD NEWS!!
You see the truth is... Every One of us needs this...
For every one of us at one point..// at one time...
were lost... lost without Christ!! Some here today are
still lost!!! Some still searching!!!
Music: Hounded by a relentless enemy...
Blind to Gods love and provision...
Desperate.... desperate for His touch...
Hoping that there was someone who could reach down
and deliver us...
How do I know this?... Well....
