Couple that with James Madisons the one who
copied down Franklins speech, standing himself to take
the floor and presenting that the new government
should contain three branches, Executive, Legislative
and Judicial, a structure that he discovered from, I
quote, the Perfect Governor, as he read Isaiah 33:22;
Let me read that verse.
Isa 33:22 For the LORD is our judge, The LORD is
our lawgiver, The LORD is our king; He will save
us-For the LORD is our judge, (Judicial System)
the LORD is our lawgiver, (Legislative Branch)
the LORD is our king; (Executive Branch)4
And so we come together today, 239 years after the
Declaration of Independence was signed, 229 years
after our Constitution was ratified, and the haunting
answer of Franklin to a lady who asked him... Dr.
Franklin, what kind of Government did you give us...
and he replied... A republic madam, if you can keep it
And we are faced for the first time in our nations
history with that question... can we keep it....
Well... turn with me today to the book of the
Psalms and lets look at Psalm
John Adams to Thomas Jefferson, June 28th, 1813, from Quincy. The
Adams-Jefferson Letters: The Complete Correspondence Between Thomas Jefferson
and Abigail and John Adams, edited by Lester J. Cappon, 1988, the University of
North Carolina Press, Chapel Hill, NC, pp. 338-340

Jer 4:28 "For this the earth shall mourn, And the
heavens above be dark, Because I have spoken, I have
purposed, And I will not change My mind, nor will I
turn from it."
Prov 19:21 Many are the plans in a man's heart,
But the counsel of the LORD, it will stand.
We find the same truths in the NT beloved...
John 8:58 Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to
you, before Abraham was born, I am."
Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to
day, and for ever.
Rev 22:13 "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the
first and the last, the beginning and the end."
Is it any wonder then why the Declaration of
Independence refers to God 4 times!!
It did so, because these men knew in the depths of
their being that without Gods intervention and
providential deliverance, there cause was a lost cause.
Is that not what Franklin said in his address to the
Constitutional Convention that I read you earlier?
Let me read it again...
In this situation of this Assembly, groping as it were in the
dark to find political truth, and scarce able to distinguish it
when presented to us, how has it happened, Sir, that we
have not hitherto once thought of humbly applying to the
Father of lights to illuminate our understandings? In the
beginning of the Contest with G. Britain, when we were
sensible of danger we had daily prayer in this room for the
divine protection.-Our prayers, Sir, were heard, & they
