Role of the Contractors Qs


1. Organizing of set of contract documents.
This includes having a copy of drawings, Specifications,BOQ,general conditions of contracts and special
conditions of contract and like others.
2. Studying and investigation the contract documents.
3. Preparation of contractors budget covering the budget for labours ,budget for site overheads,
budget for plant and equipments, budget for materials, budget for sub contractors works.
Agreeing the target budget with the management of the head office or with the project QS are also
part of the duties of the site QS.
4. Organizing of subcontractors to execute the project works.
This includes identification of subcontractors, identification of their technical capabitily, agreeing the
prices with them and formation of contract with the subcontractors.

Organizing of material requirement with required quantities and quality.


Organizing of labour requirement.
Organizing of plant and machinery.
Organizing of suppliers.
Making application of payments.eg.Main Application of payment certificates.
Providing drafted advanced bond, draft performance bond, draft Insurance coverage.

This covers should be forwarded to approval of the consultant, upon approval of consultant. It is required
to submit original bond and guarantees to the bank.This is the activity is to be executed at the very early
stage.
11. Agreeing the joint measurement with the consultant QS is one of the very important task of the
contractors QS is one of the very important task of the contractors QS .It need to agreed a
suitable measurement format. In order to have the joint measurement.
12. Identification of the variation.
13. Managing the variation is a very important role of contractors QS.This includes the following
activities.

Identification of variation.

Identification to be done by the contractors QS by studying BOQ, Drawings, and
Specefications for them.
If there are any items not demonstrated. or the points but it is required to execute the
work. And if such item is to be measured in the covers of the SMM which applicable
to contract then such item to be considered as variation.
14. Having the discussion with Construction Manager everyday.(By Attending to the progress
meetings)
15. Having the discussion with Consultant Q.S.
16. Organizing of variation log book. This Include possible variation already request,
variationinstructed, rate and amount of variation agreed.

The original copy of the purchase orders paid invoices.performed invoices copies are kept with the
accounts department.Q.S needed to obtain a copy of such formats from the accounts department and keep
