The Crucible
During the last two weeks, the class has read a play called The Crucible. The play takes
place and is about Salem witch trials that took place in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. At that
time, religion was a very strict topic. Abigail, one of the main characters plays a very big role in
the play. She challenges religion and plays around with other characters. Nowadays the president
Donald Trump is a good match up to Abigail. Trump has made a big impact in the world in the
past year, with his campaign that made him the president of the United States of America. The
character Abigail of the play The Crucible has a connection with Donald Trump in modern day
because The way Abigail and Donald want power, the way they interpret religion and people,
and how manipulative and controlling they are.
Donald Trump and Abigail are very similar and both want more power. Since the first day
that the human race, people had always been looking for more and more power. In this case,
Donald Trump is a billionaire that has now become president, many people like him, but other
dont. Obviously he did not have enough with just owning companies that are now present all
over the world. On the other hand, Abigails move for power is by accusing others of witchcraft.
At the time of The Crucible witchcraft could make you find your way to court and maybe
death. So that is Abigails move to power, which is in a completely different sense from what
Trumps idea of power is. But still makes the connection between the two of them as they are
always looking for it.
But how did they raise to power? First of all Trump came up to be the president because
he gained a lot of votes by disrespecting a religion (muslin) and also the Mexican citizens. After

the elections and Trump becoming the president, the idea of prohibiting the muslin citizens in the
US was of the webpage of the republican political party. Now, that is kind of a hypocritical
action, by accusing a religion and a whole different country to raise to power. Secondly, Abigail
idea of raising to power is very similar to Donald Trump moves as she also accuses many people
in the village and especially Elizabeth Proctor, because Abigail herself was having an affair with
John Proctor (Elizabeths husband). With this she goes hunting down people and accusing them
for witchcraft so they could be judge and maybe sentenced to death. With this we can see how
accusing and disrespecting is a connection between Donald Trump and Abigail.
Being manipulative and controlling plays a big role in the character of Abigail in the play.
She gains confidence with the village girls and quickly control them by taking them to the forest
with Tituba which was strictly prohibited at the time, as you could be charge of witchcraft.
Trump, on the other hand, gains votes for being president by also manipulating people with his
presidential campaign. As said before he really gains votes with the idea of the muslins and
illegal mexicans coming in the US. But also he really emerges himself by saying things like his
slogan Make America great again. A country like the US is a very patriotic country and people
like that. By doing this he is also controlling and manipulating the crowds.
In conclusion, Abigail and Donald Trump has various similarities as talked about and
would be very similar to each other if they were living at the same time. Power, disrespect and
being manipulative come up to be their biggest similarities though within the knowledge that we
have about them.
