Coursework instructions
See below for details. You must follow the instructions and
guidelines concerning the format of this poster that you
were given during the module (available on 308BMS
Moodle under the topic COURSEWORK)
Production of a scientific poster showing:
Critical analysis of a selected aspect of EITHER human
microbial pathogenicity/virulence OR human microbial
disease epidemiology/outbreaks
Comparison of data
Incorporation of current literature
Details of what you need to do and submit
You must RESUBMIT your poster on the same topic that you
presented as your first attempt. It MUST show a SIGNIFICANT
IMPROVEMENT on that first attempt.
You need to collect your poster mark sheet from the Richard Crossman
building Assignment Handling Office this sheet contains specific feedback
on your poster and you must take careful note of the comments there. You

need to look carefully at the feedback given on your original poster


and must contact the lecturer concerned with your topic and the
module leader (Dr Nigel Parker) in order to discuss how you need
to improve.

The submission deadline is Monday 29th June


2015. The printed poster must be submitted
to the Richard Crossman AHO by 4pm on 29th
June 2015 and the electronic copy of the
poster text before 23.55h Monday 29th JUNE
2015.
What you need to submit:
You must submit your individual poster by the time/date specified as a
both HARD COPY and ELECTRONIC COPY through Turnitin (via
Moodle).
The poster includes the HARD COPY (printed on A3 size paper) and
the ELECTRONIC COPY of poster text via CUOnline.
The hard copy of your poster must be submitted to the Richard
Crossman Building Assignment Handling Office by 4pm on Monday
29th June 2015.
An electronic version of your poster must to be submitted by 23.55h on
Monday 29th June 2015 via the resit/referred Turnitin link. THIS
ELECTRONIC COPY MUST BE A WORD DOCUMENT of your
poster text. (Whilst your resubmitted text is likely to show matching
with your first submission, amendment and modification should be
in evidence). As before, this link is set up to enable you to put drafts
through it once a day up to the deadline. The version that is there on the
deadline is the assessment version.
Hard Copy of your work may be submitted in the following ways:

o Open on working days from 8.30-16.00
o Students must ensure they obtain a date stamped receipt for
their work

Students can only take re-sits if they are entitled to do so. You will be

Re-sit coursework that is submitted LATE will be given a mark of


ZERO in line with Faculty of Health and Life Sciences policy.

1. Guidance will be given concerning requirements for poster content and presentation.
2. Students can speak briefly to a module leader in taught classes (such as lectures and
tutorials and laboratory sessions) and academic surgery sessions to ask questions
about coursework items, examinations or any other issue related to that module.
3. Students can speak briefly to any member of a module team in taught classes (such as
lectures and tutorials and laboratory sessions) and academic surgery sessions to ask
subject specific questions related to that module.
4. A session will be arranged when students may show a copy of a draft of their
coursework item to the module leader/assessor. The module leader/assessor will only
indicate whether the student is covering the right material and will give advice on how
to improve the coursework item, but will not mark the work. Students may not email
coursework items to the lecturer.

Plagarism
Students are required to sign the declaration on plagiarism on the cover sheet,
relevant for group or individual assessment. As stated in this declaration, where
relevant your work must be your own independent piece of work, not produced
in collusion with a fellow student (i.e. your work should not be similar to any

other students) or plagiarized (copied) from a fellow student or a web site or a


text book or any other information source. When referencing sources of
information (books, journals or web pages) make sure you use the correct
University Harvard referencing system
Please note that Turnitin will compare your work with material from the Web
and from submissions from other students. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT
YOU DO NOT CUT AND PASTE MATERIAL FROM THE WEB OR OTHER
SOURCES, ALWAYS PUT THE MATERIAL INTO YOUR OWN WORDS. (For
this poster, whilst some images, figures and tables may be inserted, they
must be correctly acknowledged and utilised appropriately. Text must be
written yourself).
Penalties for work that is too long
The dimensions of poster must be as specified in the coursework instructions.
Learning Outcomes
The intended learning outcomes are that, on completion of the module,
students should be able to:
1. Evaluate and discuss the molecular detail and epidemiology of
microbial pathogens.
2. Critically review published scientific information.
3. Communicate effectively using an informed, reasoned and
critical approach.

This course work links with module learning outcomes 1,2,3.

Late Submission
University regulations for late submission state that work which is
submitted late will receive a mark of ZERO.
Return of Coursework
Resit coursework is not normally returned.
Feedback on Coursework
Feedback for the coursework will be given in the form of a feedback
mark sheet.
Plagiarism (Cheating)
The University has clear policies on plagiarism and cheating that are
outlined in the Universitys General Regulations Appendix 1. Please
ensure that you are aware of the implications of being found guilty
of any form of cheating in any coursework.

Note that the electronic version of your work will be


examined using Turnitin software-which will identify
any material that has been copied.
