Preparing a Bibliography

The first step in accurately and efficiently citing the sources of information in your report or
project is preparing the final bibliography. Although the bibliography will be the final page of
your report, it is an essential part. It is not only a concise record of the sources you use, but it is a
valuable reference tool for your readers who may seek more information about your topic.
It is best to write the bibliography before you write the report. This is a very easy step, since you
already will have all of your sources listed on note cards (working bibliography).

Working Bibliography Cards

A bibliography card must be made for each source that you use. Each card should be written in
correct bibliographic form and numbered consecutively so that you can easily identify the source
you have used on each note card. When you are ready to type your bibliography page, the cards
can easily be alphabetized and the information transferred to the Bibliography page.

**Follow all punctuation. Use underline when

handwriting, use italics when typing.
