(1)

Objects are saved and managed in a unit and

location structure in a structured and grouped way.
The structure tree indicates where an object
belongs to. Example:
(1) The pump P001 belongs to the Secondary
treatment.
(2) The cabinets S001-S003 are located in room
K04.

ANSI
KKS (7 or 9 levels)
General two-stage system (electrical engineering).

The labeling systems in COMOS can be replaced or extended by customized

Introduction

This tutorial intends to convey the creation of a two-stage unit and location structure in
COMOS.
You will

Create a new COMOS engineering project

Select a suitable project structure for an electrical engineering project

Create a two-stage unit and location structure

Modify the Navigator settings, so that the displayed objects are sorted by name in each
tab.

NOTE:

Opening a COMOS database and an engineering project as well as using the

context menu (right mouse button) for creating objects in the Navigator is
supposed to be well known and these subjects are not part of this document.

Be sure to read all of the information and notes in a chapter and then carry out the tasks
step-by-step.
The steps of the tutorial are built along a sequence, so that (in most cases) you cannot skip
one.
If you need help, use the figures in chapter 3 or talk to the trainer.
The screenshots presented in this document are for reference use only.

Description of the task

Creating an engineering project

Start COMOS and open COMOS database by using your default access account.
Make sure, that your default access account does not contain any rights for administration.
Create a new, empty engineering project with name EE. Enter a description of your own.
Use the project structure Project presetting, EI&C example.
NOTE:
2.2

Use the context menu (right mouse button) for the next steps

Modifying the Navigator settings

Modify the Navigator settings, so that the displayed objects are sorted by their names and
not by the string that appears in the Navigator.
2.3

Creating a unit structure

In the tab Units, create a structure with the following parts:

A unit: Leave the name as it is. Enter R for the label and Reactor for the description.

A subunit (below the unit): Leave the name as it is. Enter OK for the label and Oil
cooling for the description.

Use the base objects A30 Unit, two level and A20 Subunit, with category folder.
2.4

Creating a location structure

In the tab Locations, create a structure with the two locations and one sublocation:

A location: Leave the name as it is. Enter MH for the label, and Machinery hall for the
description

A location: Define and enter a name, so that this location is displayed above the
machinery hall, when the Navigator is sorting by name (as describe in chapter 2.2).
Enter U for the label and Transfer station low voltage for the description

A sublocation (below machinery hall): Leave the name as it is. Enter TR for the label,
and Technical equipment room for the description

Use the base objects A40 Location, two-level and A20 Sublocation, with category folder.
