Slide off the battery cover from the rear panel and insert the batteries, making sure
to observe the correct polarity (i/- orientation) and then reattach the battery cover.

The volca beatsis a rhythm sepencer v ith an analog sound source at the core. It achieves
the classic tone essential to dance music v ith a thick sound that's distinctive of analog
hard' are. By further incorporating four lo-fi PCMs to control the playback speed, it can
e~press the coarse graininess that transcends its intrinsic digital concept. The seuencer is
constructed so that it emphasizes the spontaneity of adding and removing parts as v eli as
pattern editing. In addition, it opens up possibilities for live performance v ith pattern
effects,
such as stutter.

Power smitch
This smitch turns the poker on/off. To turn the poe<eroff, press and hold the svritch for
appro~imately one second.

Auto power-off

KI CK (kick drum)
CLICK knob: This knob sets the attack. The knob mill light up v<ith the
timing of the sound from the kick drum.
PITCH knob:This knob sets the pitch of the drum head sound.
DECAY knob:This knob sets the length of the drum head sound.

SNARE (snare drum)

SNAPPY knob:This knob sets the volume of the snare drum mires. The
knob mill light up mith the timing of the sound from the snare drum.
PITCH knob: This knob sets the pitch of the snare drum.
DECAY knob:This knob sets the length of the drum head sound.

TOM (high tom and low tom)

HI PITCH knob: This knob sets the pitch of the high tom. The knob

DECAY knob:This knob sets the length of the sound from the

CLOSED DECAY knob:This knob sets the length of the sound
from a closed hi-hat. The knob v<ill light up mith the timing of
the sound from the closed hi-hat.
OPEN DECAY knob:This knob sets the length of the sound
from an open hi-hat. The knob v<ill light up v<ith the timing of
the sound from the open hi-hat.
GRAIN knob: This knob sets the coarseness of the noise
generating the metallic sound of the hi-hat. Reducing the value
v<ill produce a scratchy, coarse tone.

PCM
Thevolca beatshas 4PCM sounds (crash, clap, claves and agogo) built in.
PCM SPEED knob: This knob sets the playback speed for the
selected PCM sound. This knob has no effect on the analog
sound sources.

MIDI IN jack
This jack is v<hereyou can connect an eksternal MIDI device to control the sound generator of
the volca beats.

SYNC IN/OUT jacks

Use these jacks v<ith the included cable to connect thevolca beatsto a monotribe or other compatible
euipment, such as an analog seuencer, and synchronize them. The SYNC OUT jack sends a 5 V
pulse of 15 ms at the beginning of each step. If the SYNC IN jack is connected, the internal step clock
mill be ignored and thevolca beatsseuencer v<ill proceed through its steps according to the pulses
that are input to this jack. You can usc this jack to synchronize thevolca beats'ssteps v<ith pulses
that are being output from the audio output of a monotribe, another analog seuencer or a DAK

Headphonejack
Connect your headphones (stereo mini-plug) here. If nothing is connected, the sound mill be
output from the internal speaker.

Le volca beatsest un seguenceur rythmigue dote d'une source audio analogigue. Le son typiguement
analogigue et epais a souhait de ce fantastigue instrument convient parfaitement pour concocter les
sonorites classigues de musigue Dance. Linstrument propose en outre guatre sources PCM lo-li
permettant de contrler le tempo de reproduction et de "corser" le son avec un grain fantastigue
depassant largement le concept essentiellement numerigue de 1'instrument. Le seguenceur a ete
entierement pense de faon a faciliter a 1'e~treme 1'ajout et le retrait de parties, ainsi gue 1'edition de
motifs. Et cerise sur le gteau, cet instrument est pare pour les performances "Live" avec sa serie
d'effets de motifs, comme le fameu~ effet "Stutter" de hachage.

HAT (charley)
Commande CLOSED DECAY: Regle la longueur (duree de
chute) du son de charley ferme. Cette commande s'allume a
chaue impulsion du son de charley ferme.
Commande OPEN DECAY: Regle la longueur (duree de chute)
du son de charley ouvert. Cette commande s'allume a chague
impulsion du son de charley ouvert.
Commande GRAIN: Regle le 'grain' du timbre metalligue du
charley. Reduisez la valeur pour produire un son plus brut et eraille.

PCM
Le volca beatsoffre 4 sons PCM integres (crash, clap, claves et

agogo).
Commande PCM SPEED:Regle la vitesse de reproduction du
son PCM selectionne. Cette commande n'a aucun effet sur les
sources de son analogigues.

Boutons de partie PART </>

Appuyez sur un de ces boutons pour selectionner la partie a
editer. Ces boutons servent en outre a passer d'un pas de
seguenceur a 1'autre.

Pri se MIDI IN
Cette prise permet de raccorder un dispositif MIDI e~teme aRn de piloter le generateur de sons
du volca beats.

Prises SYNC IN/OUT

Utilisez ces prises avec le cble fourni pour connecter levolca beats a un monotribe ou un autre
dispositif compatible tel gu'un seguenceur analogiue et synchroniser les appareils. La prise
SYNC OUT transmet une pulsation de 5V durant 15ms au debut de chague pas. Si vous avez
branche un dispositif a la prise SYNC IN, 1' horloge de pas interne est ignoree et le seguenceur du
volca beatsproduit ses pas en suivant les pulsations reues a cette prise. Vous pouvez utiliser
cette prise pour synchroniser les pas duvolca beatsavec des pulsations emises par un monotribe,
un autre seuenceur analogiue ou une station de travail audio numerigue (DAlV).

Prise cascue
Vous pouvez y brancher un casse (minijack stereo). Si rien n'est branche a cette prise, le son
est produit par le haut-parleur de 1'instrument.
