HOBAN ACCEPTS
TINLEY PARK
POST
DECATUR Patrick Hoban, who for the last 3 years has served as a part of the team responsible for
bringing to the community many of Decaturs most high-profile economic development projects, is
expected to soon serve in a similar role for the Village of Tinley Park.
Hoban today announced his resignation as the Citys Economic Development Officer
effective Friday, January 20 to become Economic Development Manager in Tinley Park, Il. The
Tinley Park appointment is currently scheduled for a formal vote on what will be the village boards
Tuesday, January 17 agenda.
Hoban joined the city in October 2013 to fill its newly created Economic Development
Officer position. He has been part of an economic development team that includes city
administration, planning, building, legal and engineering staff and entities that are part of a collective
informally known as Team Decatur that have combined to help engineer the community
resurgence that we see today. Team Decatur includes, among others, The Greater Decatur Chamber
of Commerce, the Economic Development Corporation for Decatur and Macon County, Workforce
Investment Solutions, the local educational and healthcare institutions and scores of others that today
combine to promote local economic development.
At the behest of City Manager Tim Gleason, Hoban earned the designation of Certified
Economic Developer (CEcD) in June 2016, a prestigious accomplishment recognized worldwide as
the industry gold standard for excellence in the economic development profession. During his
tenure Hoban had a direct hand in helping to bring a number of projects to reality for Decatur,
including being part of the city group that negotiated agreements for a City-owned Fiber network, the
new Sonic restaurant, the FirsTech redevelopment downtown and helping to coordinate the citys
brownfield cleanup assistance for the recent Akorn expansion.
"I wish Patrick and his family all the best, Gleason said. Im not surprised that Tinley Park
saw exactly what I saw in Patrick.
Over the last year that's why the investment was made in his development as an economic
development officer and he has delivered for Decatur."
Hoban is a proud graduate of MacArthur High School, Richland Community College and
Millikin University and is a board member for the Workforce Investment Board for Macon-Dewitt
Counties, the Decatur Convention and Visitors Bureau and Limitless Decatur. He is also a member
of the Beautify Decatur Coalition and coached football for the Lutheran School Association.
As economic developers our job is to leave our communities better than we found them and
I am proud to be a member of Team Decatur which has done just that, Hoban said. After a decade
working in economic development for Decatur its time to take on more responsibility in a larger
market.
We are grateful for everything Decatur has given us - great education at MacArthur,
Richland and Millikin. Great career paths in advertising, real estate and economic
development. Most importantly great friends. Regardless of where our career paths take us, our
family will always call Decatur HOME.
