Living in this world presents us with a broad spectrum of possibilities. The circumstances of individuals and societies may differ, but the bottom line is that all people have the potential to achieve great results in every aspect of their lives. It is a fact that we live in an unequal world, and that many people in many parts of the world are experiencing challenges beyond measure, yet others are enjoying prestige and prosperity beyond imagination. We can draw inspiration from societies and people with little or no resources or means, but who have transformed dire situations into the best situations at all levels of life. A paradigm shift enabling a positive conditioning of our minds can propel us to greater heights that we never imagined could be possible, whereas, focusing so much on the negatives can cloud our thinking and disable us from achieving our potential. It is all about a resolve by taking a stand to end the cycle of negativity, pain, trauma, illness, poverty, and inequalities, in order to transform our lives for the best at all levels of our being, regardless of our background or circumstances.

There will be times in your life when you will have to make decisions which will affect your future. Planning for the future is sometimes difficult, especially when you are very busy and have other things on your mind. One way of making sure you make the right decision is by doing a self-assessment. Doing a self-assessment will allow you to take a good look at yourself. Rushed decisions of this kind often do not make good decisions. It is essential therefore that you try to make this self-assessment part of your everyday life. This can be done by following the three steps to success: Looking at yourself (Who are you?); SWOT-ing (Where are you in life? Look at your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats); and Action planning (Where do you want to be?). As such, you can discover your potential by taking a good look at yourself.
Your journey to a healthy mind and best you, starts with understanding yourself and believing in yourself and your abilities. As such, this book takes you further than just the abovementioned three steps to success, but it helps you find your true self by taking you through a journey of self-understanding, forgiveness, healing and success, in order to clear the labyrinths and bottlenecks of your past, present and future. The book outlines fifteen steps of finding your true self which is the journey towards self-understanding, forgiveness, healing and success.
You can take this journey as many times as you like during the course of your life, as life is dynamic and never static. It is recommended that you take time to go through each step honestly – even though you may not be pleased with what you find out about yourself!! It is also useful to go through the steps with another person who you trust to be honest. In this way, you will be better prepared to take advantage of the opportunities that life has to offer.
At the same time, it is worth acknowledging that there is no one-glove-fits-all
, as people have unique susceptibilities, unique resilience, and unique healing as they journey along their own paths in life. The bottom line is to build, improve and sustain self-efficacy and maturity so that you can achieve great results in every aspect of your life. The fifteen steps of finding your true self – that is the journey of self-understanding, forgiveness, healing and success are as follows:

What are my values?
What is my life’s purpose?
What are my feelings and thoughts right now?
What are my needs?
What are my strengths and abilities?
What are my weaknesses and limitations?
What are my passions and interests?
What are my dislikes?
What are my fears and insecurities?
What are the positive or inspiring situations in my life?
What are the negative or painful situations in my life?
What is my life’s story?
At the end of each step there is an exercise which you as the reader are expected to complete as part of the journey towards fulfilment and success. Completing the journey of self-understanding, forgiveness, healing and success can enable you to enhance your mind and move you towards fulfilling your potential and achieving great results in every aspect of your life.
We need to realise that our brain has untapped potential because approximately 97 percent of our brainpower is tucked away in our subconscious mind. This implies that on average human beings only use approximately 3 per cent of their brain power which represents the messages that the conscious mind receives and understands. Tapping into this hidden power of our brain has the potential to enrich our lives and our livelihood.
Much as it is a fact that we gradually lose a portion of our brain power as we age, the decline in brain power is not as drastic in some people, whereas other people experience a drastic decline in their brain power that leaves them with mental deterioration or loss of cognitive abilities from conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease. As such, it is possible that some seniors enjoy their golden years of life without a worsening mental state that many other seniors experience. The truth is that what you do and what you think, see, or feel is mirrored in the size of your respective brain regions and the connections your brain forms to accommodate your needs. Thus, the actions we take can literally expand or contract different parts of the brain, firing up circuits or tamping them down. All it takes is an effort to enhance and preserve the brain power that you already have.
The scientific community has put emphasis on evidence-based ways to prevent deterioration of the brain power. Some of the evidence-based ways to prevent deterioration of the brain power include managing blood sugar and blood pressure, healthy eating, getting good quality sleep, getting more physical activity and not smoking.
Research in neuroscience has shown evidence that the mind can be retrained to be more positive as the mind has the ability to determine how your brain thinks about what happens in your life. What does all this mean? This means that what we think, do or say matters. This book was written to help you to take advantage of your mind and brain power and make the most of your life and hidden potential. Be the best you can be and fulfil your life’s purpose and potential through maximising your mind and brain power!
In today’s world of psychology and the study of consciousness, whether mainstream or not, the iceberg analogy of the mind is nearly always depicted with two functions of the mind: conscious and subconscious.

The conscious (tip of the iceberg) and the subconscious (the near entirety and completely hidden rest of the iceberg). The most important part of the mind is the part you cannot see!
Conscious Mind: The conscious mind constitutes approximately 3% to 10% of your mind. The Conscious Mind tries to use willpower to control behaviours, habits, and beliefs but loses out to the Subconscious Mind's greater influence. It is responsible for Critical Thinking, Logical Thinking, Short-term Memory, and Willpower.
Subconscious mind: The subconscious mind constitutes approximately 90% to 97% of your mind. Since it is not conscious and incapable of reasoning, is therefore non-judgemental and is very flexible and one could think of it as the hard drive of the brain constantly being programmed with life's data. It is responsible for Beliefs, Creativity, Development Stages, Emotions & Feelings, Habits & Addictions, Imagination, Intuition, Long-term Memory, and Values.
You think with your conscious mind, whatever you habitually think sinks down into your subconscious mind, which creates according to the nature of your thoughts. Your subconscious mind is the seat of your emotions and is the creative mind. If you think good, good will follow, if you think evil, evil will follow. This is the way your mind works.
The main point to remember is once the subconscious mind accepts an idea, it begins to execute it. It is an interesting and subtle truth that the law of the subconscious mind works for good and bad ideas alike. This law, when applied in a negative way, is the cause of failure, frustration and unhappiness. However, when your habitual thinking is harmonious and constructive, you experience perfect health, success and prosperity.

We all know our names, addresses, hobbies, interests, likes, dislikes, but when was the last time you really stopped and thought about why you are who you are? Once we begin to look at ourselves in this way, we are using the skills of ‘reflection’ (to go back in thought; to meditate or look into one’s inner self; and to consider how).
There is great value in reflection because it allows us to really see the things we usually miss in everyday life.
