Mayor Villaraigosa,
I have heard multiple reports over the last few weeks in the national news that at your direction, your
city is boycotting the great state of Arizona’s businesses due to the actions of our sovereign state
legislature.
First, I want you to be aware that I am not a right wing extremist; I am independent conservative
libertarian who supports the rule of law. I am also not a racist. I own a business that operates in
Arizona and I employ approximately 30 people, 75 percent of whom are of Mexican descent – including
all of the management personnel. Some of them were born in the United States, most are guest
workers from Mexico, and some are naturalized citizens, but all of them are legally in the State of
Arizona. These are the people that your suggested boycott will hurt the most – the people who actually
work and raise families here. I mention this not because I am actually worried about a boycott of our
state, in fact I welcome it because you will lose.
My factory regularly purchases truckloads of paper products manufactured in the Bear Republic from
various companies, mostly in the Los Angeles area – often several truckloads per week. We have no
customers located in California, but we do have lots of suppliers there. We have alternative suppliers
located in Salt Lake City and in El Paso, that offer pricing that is just as reasonable, in some cases better.
We can and will divert all of our business to these other venues in red states as long as you insist on
continuing with this boycott – actually I had never given it much thought before now, but I prefer to
support these capitalist states rather than your Marxist loving state anyway – I owe you a debt of
gratitude for bringing this idea to my attention.
I have enjoyed doing business in California, I have traveled to the Los Angeles area so often for business
that I have maintained an annual Disneyland Passport, which I have cancelled as of late. I have
historically spent thousands of dollars at retail establishments during my travels every year, to say
nothing of the California based hotels, restaurants, fuel retailers, and freight companies I have
supported there. It all ends as of now.
I mentioned earlier that if you want to engage in this boycott of our great state that you will lose. The
reason is quite simple. The city of Los Angeles is full of people who haven’t worked in generations, and
by the way, lest you think I am being racist since that is what most of you on the left think about anyone
who disagrees with you, I would like to point out that most of those in this country who are unwilling to
work are Caucasian. Almost all first generation immigrants who come to this nation are quite willing to
work very hard, and don’t expect anything to be handed to them when they arrive here. It is only with
the Marxist, redistributive policies that many in the once formerly great Democratic Party embrace, that
people are bred into the entitlement mentality that makes them slothful and reliant on government and
incapable of doing anything for themselves and their families. Fortunately, although Los Angeles is
bursting at the seams with these entitlement reliant people, Phoenix has only a limited amount of them
by comparison. This fact is underscored by the fact that Phoenix, now the fifth largest city in America is
the center of the most populous county (Maricopa County) nationwide that consistently votes
republican in national elections. Please don’t misunderstand me, or as your hero would say, “Let me be
clear”, the GOP has plenty of crooks in its ranks too, but people voting for Republicans are generally
people who are not looking for a handout. All we want is the opportunity to work hard, unmolested by
government wanting to redistribute what we have worked so hard to earn. Most of us just want to be
able to provide a comfortable‐ not opulent – living for ourselves and our families. Since we have more
people willing to work in Arizona instead of just take from society, we will ultimately come out the
winner in any boycott you want to continue with. Quite simply you need us more than we need you.
So as I said ‐ bring in on.
Sincerely,
Patrick A Eggleston
P.S. If you had read our law, as I have done word for word, unlike Mr. Obama, Mrs. Napolitano, and Mr.
Holder, you would realize that it has no teeth whatsoever. It is a political stunt, and does nothing to
change how law enforcement will be conducted in Arizona, and there is also nothing unconstitutional
about it. You should be far more concerned on the other hand as I am, about the regular blanket traffic
stops being conducted by federal officers – ICE agents to be precise on the Interstate 8 between Yuma
and San Diego. These stops are unconstitutional as they are conducted with no probable cause
whatsoever. I have been the victim of this personally on more than one occasion. I have been driving
along violating no law whatsoever and been stopped and detained and questioned about my citizenship
status, as officers peered into the interior of my vehicle – a very disturbing situation to be sure. This
policy is being carried out under the authority of the Justice Department, Homeland Security, and the
Obama Administration. I have written to Mr. Obama asking him to suspend this Bush‐era, Nazi‐like
policy, but he has yet to do so, or even to reply to my letter.
