DEMO OVERVIEW
INTRODUCTION
This document and its included script introduce you to the position budgeting process and the
new features included in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2.
When you complete this document and demo script, you will be able to:

Describe how Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 provides budgeting across Human Resources
(HR) positions and gives control back to the budget managers with streamlined integration
into budget planning.

Discuss how Human Resources enhancements provide flexibility during the budgeting
process.

AUDIENCE
The included script should be used to demonstrate the value of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2
to a business decision maker (BDM). The executives that you are presenting to will find value in
this script if they are challenged with:

Managing open positions.

Budgeting.

Managing compensation.

The demo script targets the:

Budget managers.

Organizational management.

Compensation/benefits management.
The following role examples represent key decisions makers, selection process
personnel, and influencers and/or evaluators:

Human Resources Manager (Claire) Human Resources Managers manage the


needs of a company's employees. They develop and manage areas such as
employment programs, salary compensation, job evaluations, benefits, and training
programs. Human Resources Managers struggle with obtaining information to make
decisions, managing change and maintaining employee data using a manual
process.

Budget Manager (Brad) Brad manages the budget process through project planning,
data analysis, and regular meetings with department heads.

SCENARIO
OVERVIEW
Contoso has expanded, and will need to budget for the upcoming year. Brad is working with
Claire (HR Manager) to update the budget information on new and existing positions within the
organization. After that is complete, Brad will push the data to budget planning for approval
(note: this final step is not included in this demo).
Note: When demonstrating this functionality to clients, manipulate the scenario to fit key pain
points they are experiencing. A one- or two-hour discovery session may help you tailor the
demo to make it more effective.

Budget Manager Streamlined creation of position-based budgets with full integration to
budget planning/approval process.
Human Resources Manager Information is more accessible with navigation and user experience
changes so that discoverability of functionality is easier and data entry is not difficult.

DEMO PRESET
CONFIGURATION

Make sure that the virtual machine (VM) is up and running that you are logged on. This
script was written to work with the Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 VM, which was
released in December 2012.

All users are in the CONTOSO domain and the password is pass@word1. For example, to
log on as Jacob, use CONTOSO\Jacob with the password as pass@word1.

The script has been written to minimize role changes and the role changes are called out
in the following script.

DEMO: POSITION BUDGETING


This demo is about introducing position-based budgeting Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2. This
demo provides an overview of the major concepts and will introduce you to new key features
that are available to users of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2.

INTRODUCTION
Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 introduces new processes for managing position budgets. This
section provides an overview of how users can be made productive with the process in
Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2.

Budgeting and department managers: Before you begin, highlight the value of simplicity
by walking the audience through the navigation and landing page to familiarize them with the
user interface (UI) so they are able to follow you as you transition from screen to screen.
In this Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 scenario, budget manager Brads job is to gather
budget information, review and revise the plan and work with managers to provide accurate
timely information.
1. Log on as ClairePSUS (or
optionally as ADMINPSUS).

Worker An internal party (person). A worker is hired to work for a company,
