Persons With Disabilities (PWD) are people who

have long term physical, mental, intellectual or
sensory impairments which in interaction with
various barriers may hinder their full and effective
participation in society .
(Convention on Rights of PWD and PWD Act 2008).

Registration for People with Disabilities (PWD)

in Malaysia is on voluntary basis.
Agencies involved in the registration are
- Ministry of Woman, Family Community
Development (Social Welfare Department)
- Ministry of Health
- Ministry of Education.
Registration of card can be carried out at
any District Social Welfare Department.
Objective of registration is to know the number
of PWD and types of disabilities for program
planning and provision of services

are PWDs which makes the estimate in
Malaysia 2.7 million.

Registration On Line
Currently the web based registration system
Sistem Pengurusan Maklumat Orang Kurang Upaya
(SMOKU) can be accessed through the Department
of Social Welfare website since 1 August 2011
PWDs can apply to be registered and PWDs
using older versions of the card can apply to get
a better quality PWD card.
The existing card (older version) can still be used
until 31 July 2012.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion do not hasitate to register
PWC card as soon as possible because
there are lot of benefits and opportunities
awaiting for you.
Registration of PWD card will be ready
within 14 days from date of application but
the whole process will take about 1 month.
