To Whom It May Concern,
I am a temporary contract teacher seeking full time employment for the rest
of the current school year. I graduated from the University of Alberta in April 2015
with a focus in Secondary Education, a Major in Chemistry and a Minor in
Mathematics. I have spent the beginning of this school year teaching Grade 2 at Dr.
Donald Massey School. Before that I accepted a temporary contract position with
Edmonton Catholic Schools, teaching Science 30, Science 24, and Biology 20. I have
also worked on the supply list for both Edmonton Catholic and Edmonton Public.
Teaching Grade 2 has been a rewarding challenge. I have learned the
importance of literacy in all subjects, and my formative and summative assessment
skills have grown exponentially. This year, with my grade level team and within the
catchment, I have focused on identifying essential curricular outcomes, creating
common assessments tied to those outcomes, and finding new ways to record
assessment observations and conversations. I have gained many skills and new
insights from this experience which I will take with me to whichever grade level I
teach next. Additionally, I chose to focus on creating lessons that were engaging,
bringing physical movement, manipulatives and technology into my teaching as
much as possible.
Teaching elementary as well as senior high has shown me the power of
building meaningful relationships within the classroom and school community. At all
grade levels I believe it is vital to create an environment of trust and respect within
my classroom. This ensures that students are willing and able to take risks which
allows their learning to flourish.
I am committed to the belief that all students are capable of learning and that
it is my responsibility to build relevant connections to facilitate that learning. I have
been able to put forth a strength-based teaching strategy, focused on each
students gifts, that aligns with the needs of the curriculum and ensures student
achievement. Additionally I have come to understand the importance of strong
formative and summative assessments, and how they should direct classroom
strategies and activities. My experiences have reinforced my belief that learning
should be a collaborative process, a process where students are encouraged to
share their successes and failures, and help others achieve at their highest level.
I am excited for my future within Edmonton Public Schools and look forward to
discussing my application further. Thank you for consideration.
Sincerely,

Sara Nyitrai
