RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Manager will have the overall responsibility on the Project execution, quality
and safety. Also he will maintain the planning progress and coordination of works with
Main Contractor.
Site Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the day to day activities on site,
materials, drawings, testing & commissioning and allocation of Departmental resources
to the work site.
Charge-hand will be directly responsible for the day to day jobs on site, for assigning
work to the technicians or any other workers assigned to his area.
QA/QC Department will be overseeing the quality requirements and quality control
measures for the project in coordination with the Project Mechanical Engineer as outlined
in the MAPCO Quality Manual.
Safety Officer will be responsible for the Health and Safety aspects on site as per the
approved MAPCO Safety Procedures.
PROCEDURE
Materials
Chemicals as per recommended by the third party who will do the laboratory test for the
project
Equipment / Tools
1. Water Pump Chemical dozing
2. Containers for Flushing Spanner
3. Flexible Hoses
Preparation
The following preparation checks / works shall be carried out prior to commencement
of flushing and cleaning of chilled water system.
Check and ensure the system is hydrostatically pressure tested and verify related
Inspection request and Pressure test Report.
Check and ensure sufficient quantities of chemicals are available as per requirement.
Preparation II
Loop together the Supply and return on top and at the bottom of the Chilled water pipe
risers.
Install a vent at the top of the loop on the high side of the risers.
Fill the system with fresh/ raw water either from top or at the bottom (if pump is to be
used).
Drain the system to clean the water from debris, sand, soils etc.
Repeat filling and draining the system till water is clear and from free from debris.
Dynamic Flushing
Attach a pump at the lowest part of the Chilled water pipe riser.
With the system is filled with clean water, open the valves of the chilled water branch
lines starting from the upmost level.
Pump the system allowing water to flow from supply to return which includes the branch
pipe at the up most level whose valve has just been opened.
Continue the process till water is clear and free from debris.
Do the same procedure by opening branch valves one at a time till all floors would have
been completed.
When water is clear, samples will be sent to the third party specialist to decide whether to
proceed with the chemical cleaning.
Chemical Cleaning
The procedure for the Chemical Cleaning will be determined by our third party based on
the capacity/ volume and other necessary information required by them who will
supervise and do laboratory analysis on the water samples we will provide them in this
activity.
Note:
1. Any AHU attached to this system will be looped isolated from this process as cleaning
for this is not required which may rather cause damages to the internal pipes.
2. In cases where temporary pumps instead of the system chilled water pump will be used,
the latter shall be looped out of the setup.
3. A schematic will be attached which will mention the Drain, Test and filling point.
Safety
All appropriate safety personal protective equipment shall be worn by workmen such as
Helmet, cover all clothing, safety shoes, goggles and gloves whenever required.
Before commencing any works, all employees will attend a site safety induction training
to ensure all safety measures are understood and implemented and to cover specific
procedures in case of emergency. If necessary, practical training exercises will be
conducted on escape routes, signage, evacuation and rescue.
Tags will be attached to the system giving warning sign that the system is pressurized
since the system is being pumped.
All valves in the system shall be tagged so not any person can operate at any time without
permission from the Engineer in charge of the Process.
