Presentations Personelles
Throughout the month of January, students will present an oral presentation. This
presentation will be about your child. The outline will be completed in class and then sent
home for extra practice. Your son and daughter should practice so that he/she can almost
present with little support from the paper. Eye contact, proper and clear pronunciation and
use of a strong voice is encouraged.

Reading: continue phonemic development continuum

sight words (reading without hesitation)
Individualized Guided Reading program continues
Demonstrate understanding of the main ideas in stories read to them
Prior to reading a story, children can activate their prior knowledge on a subject,
make predictions and ask questions to confirm their understanding.
Read simple texts and pattern books
The students will be introduced how to demonstrate their understanding of a text by
retelling a story including the main ideas. We will be using the familiar story of the
Little Gingerbread man.

We have been reading various versions Bonhomme de pain

depice so the children are comfortable with the events in this story.
The Retell structures are:
1. Quelquun veut...(somebody wants...); Alors...(so...); Mais...(but...);A la fin...(in the end)
2. Au debut...(In the beginning...); Au milieu...(in the middle...);
A la fin...(in the end...)
3.En premier...(First...); Ensuite...(then...); Finalement...(finally)

Writing: complete journal using the different oral language structures

:begin to sound out words they want to write by stretching each sound
:proper letter formation, neatness
:use the hand success criteria to self-assess their own work and peer assess a
friends work before submitting journals
:recognize that plural nouns require an s at the end of the word

Speaking French
Many students are trying hard to speak in French with one another
in class. I encourage students to speak in French as much as

possible. They should only be using limited English from this point
on.
