Merits of The IraQ War

One of the most criticized wars in the history of mankind is the 2003 Iraq war. No
doubt, hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians have died in this war. But there
remains an untouched side which hasn’t ever been looked into.

The Iraq War started in 2003 when the United States of America blamed Iraq for
producing and maintaining stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction which
included chemical and biological weapons. The Bush-led administration in the
United States of America ordered an invasion into Iraq in order to find those
weapons and also find Saddam Hussein, Iraq’s notorious dictator. A full scale
invasion of Iraq was planned and executed by the USA and its allies. However, no
WMD’s were found and neither was Saddam Hussein. In the invasion itself many
thousands died.

But on the contrary of what people think about the war, that it was useless and was
simply an excuse of the USA and allies to plunder the oil reserves of Iraq, there
were reasons and points that people did not take into consideration.

Saddam Hussein was eventually found hiding in a very remote are of Iraq. Saddam
Hussein was a very brutal dictator. Even though they did not find WMD’s in Iraq ,
we know of the Osirak Nuclear reactor which Israel had bombed in order to
prevent Iraq from possessing nuclear weapons. Saddam Hussein, a very radical
Sunni Muslim had ordered the execution of many people of Kurdish origin and
many Shia Muslims. He used many chemical weapons such as mustard gas and
VX gas against them and killed them. He invaded Kuwait in 1991 which shows
that he is a threat to the whole world and not only to the west, but also his fellow
Arab states. When he was caught, justice was given to the people he had killed.
Saddam Hussein was hanged by the Iraqi judiciary on December 30th 2006.

The dictatorship was overthrown and democracy was established by America and
its allies. The Iraqi people now had the freedom to choose its own leaders. There
was now no restriction or discrimination based on ethnicity (whether you were a
Kurd or not). After the war, Iraq saw its first Kurdish Prime Minister, Mr. Nouri Al
Malliki.

Though the war had totally devastated the country and had torn it apart, the new
reconstruction measures by the USA and allies will help rebuild a whole new Iraq.
Tons of money from all over the world has been put in to rebuild a new Iraq.
Various terrorist outfits were given shelter in Iraq during Saddam Hussein’s reign.
These terrorists were uprooted along with the infrastructure. Though insurgency
has taken a rise in Iraq, main terrorist organizations have stopped getting support in
Iraq but at the same time, it has made Iraq a target for the various American and
allied installations and interests which are present in Iraq.

The USA and allies have given sufficient training and expertise to the Iraqi
security forces so that when USA and allies would leave the country, Iraq would be
in safe hands.

Today, Iraq is what can be called as a “semi-sovereign nation” with a legitimate,

democratic government. When the pullout of all the foreign troops will take place,
Iraq will then become a sovereign nation with full independence. This is what the
war has brought to Iraq.
