the second seat and the other two in the back part of
the station wagon.
Then something very unexpected happened. A
man who had been traveling south on the same highway had stopped to rest or get gas. Perhaps confused
by fatigue or alcohol, when he reentered the interstate
he began driving south on the northbound lanes, right
past the Wrong Way signs.
Just a few minutes later the station wagon with
the family and the car with the lone driver met at interstate speeds in a head-on collision. Four people
were killed instantlythe lone driver, and the husband and wife and one child in the other car. The two
children who survived, a boy and the girl, were seriously injured and knocked unconscious. They were
taken to the hospital for treatment, and as they were
waking up, the hospital staff called me to explain to
them what had happenedthat the accident had
proved fatal to their mom, dad, and brother.
It was an experience that I shall never forget.
Four lives snuffed out because one person had gone
the wrong way.
What could have been done to avoid the fatal
crash? The most sensible thing, of course, would have
been for both drivers to stop and rest when they got
sleepy. But suppose that you had been in a position to
warn one of the drivers of the serious consequences
that were likely to occur under the circumstances.
What if you had been traveling south on that interstate
that night and looked across the median and seen a car
traveling the same direction you were? What if you
had had a CB radio and made a call, or flashed your

vealed much about end-time events. He gave a number of signs of the end, and described events in the
world and the church that would indicate His coming
was nearat the very doors. In the providence of
God this is where we find ourselves today.
There are two indicators that must be considered
in determining where we are in the journey to eternity. One is the prophetic time line that is laid out in
Scripture. The other indicator is the list of signs of
the end that has been given by Jesus and the Bible
writers. We will consider them in that order in the
chapters that follow.
Things are happening in detail just as we have
been told that they would. Truly we live in a grand
and awful time. It is a time for confidence and trust in
the mighty God and His many wonderful promises.
My hope is that this book will serve as a call to all
Christians to awake and be vigilant.
God has laid out in His Word the links in the
prophetic chain that stretch from eternity in the past
to eternity in the future. Understanding these
prophetic links will help us know where we are today
in the procession of the ages and what we may expect
in the days ahead. Since all the prophecies that were
to be fulfilled by our day are now traced on the pages
of history, we may be assured that those Bible predictions that are yet future will be fulfilled in their
order. Today the signs of the times tell us that we are
standing on the very threshold of eternity.
God commanded Noah, Come into the ark, you
and all your household, because I have seen that you
are righteous before Me (Gen. 7:1). Noah obeyed

and was saved. God instructed Lot, Get up, get out
of this place; for the Lord will destroy this city (Gen.
19:14). Lot placed himself under the guardianship of
the heavenly messengers and was saved. In a similar
manner Christs disciples were given warning of the
destruction of Jerusalem. Those who watched for the
sign of the coming ruin and fled from the city escaped the destruction. And so today we are given the
warning of the Second Coming and the end of this
world as we know it. Those who heed the warning
will be saved.
