Project 1: Bicycle Rental

Introduction
Bicycle has been a method of transportation for people since back in the
year of 1800s and people are still using it today. Many other countries such as in
Europe and in Western countries uses the bicycle as their main method of
transportation due to many factors. Not only cycling have the potential to
improve an individuals health, wealth and standard of living, but the combination
of more cyclists and fewer cars on the road could give the entire country a much
needed boost. Cycling could improve the safety of the road users because the
more cyclist on the road, the less vehicle will there be and therefore will reduce
the risk of accidents. Due to rising fuel costs and tire upkeep, the cost of owning
a car increased every year. Owning and maintaining a bicycle will require less
than 30 times from a car.
Bicycle rental is introduced at Taiping City for the use of everyone such as
the locals or even the tourists. Taiping City is a place where cycling bicycle is
suitable due to the layout design of the town is organized and the existing
structure of the town can easily be fit to place a bicycle rental space for the
customers. Bicycle rental in Taiping could also increase the number of tourists
through out the year because the tourists could explore Taiping City by
themselves easily without having to rely on the bus or taxi. Tourists and locals
could also reduces their expenses in gasoline or taxi fares by renting the bicycle
either one day or one week.

Objectives
To provide bicycle rental service to the public with an appropriate price
To encourage the public to ride bicycle around town and reduce vehicle
usage
To increase Taiping Citys income
To reduce toxic emmission around Taiping Town from vehicles

Rental Space Location

The rental space is located at the border of the Taiping town which is at the
entrance of the town. The reason why the rental space is placed at the said
location is because of the strategic location itself. The main target of people of
the bicycle rental is the tourists therefore with the rental space at the entrance,
tourists could easily see the rental space. Other than that, the rental space is also
located right next to the main road, therefore it will give an easy access for the
public to go to the rental space and could instantly start cycling around town. On
top of that, another reason why the location is strategic is because it is close to

hotels around the area which will ease the tourist to go to the bicycle rental
without having to take any bus or taxi.

Rules & Regulation for Bicycle Rental
Any damages identified at the bicycle after returning will fully be
responsible by the customer
Rented bicycle are not allowed to be shared with anyone for security
purposes
Customers are required to give a copy of identification card or passport
during rental for security purposes
Customers must properly and securely lock the bicycle with the given lock
whenever not in use
Stolen rented bicycle will be fully covered by the customer
Deposit is required upon renting the bicycle
Late returns will be charged per day

Project 2: Bicycle Lane


Introduction
In major cities such as New York, Melbourne, Ottawa, Vancouver, San
Francisco, Montreal and California have implemented the infrastructure of Bicycle
lane for decades already. Bicycle lane are same as important as any other
infratructure in a city such as vehicle roads and pedastrian walkway. Bicycle lane
is a lane, route or path which is specifically designed by the infrastructure
engineer for the city to ease the bicycle user transporting themselves throughout
the entire city. Bicycle lanes are often painted with a bright colours in order for
other infrastructure users such as vehicles to differentiate the bicycle lane and
vehicle road.
It is advisable for a bicycle lane to have barriers in order to reduce the risk
of the vehicle user to accidentally enters the bicycle lane area and eventually hit
the cyclist and caused an accident. There are some bicycle lane around the world
that are only separated by the painting of the bicycle lane for the purpose of easy
switching lanes for the cyclist.
In Taiping City, Perak, bicycle lane is introduced because of the layout of
the city itself. The layout of Taiping City is by block and there are less corners and
similar to New York City. With the presence of bicycle lane, tourists or public could
enjoy more of the Taiping town because they can freely cycle anywhere around
the town day or night. In order to secure the safety of the cyclist around town,
bicycle lane is to be constructed all around town at the specific or choosen roads.
Most of the main roads are not accessible by the bicycle and only the secondary
roads.
Bicycle lane will only available in Taiping Town with the radius of 850
meters from the bicycle rental area. The bicycle lane will be painted in bright
green colour so that user could easily identify the bicycle lane and bicycle lane
signboards will be placed at all of the roads with bicycle lane.

Objectives
To ease the bicycle user when travelling along side the vehicle road

To ensure the cyclists safety when cycling around the town


To avoid any accidents between bicycle user and other vehicles such as
cars or motorcycle
To identify which road can be access and cannot be access by the bicycle
user

Rules & Regulation


All of the provided bicycle lane must be used in an orderly manner
Transportation system other than bicycle are not allowed to use the bicycle
lane
Pedastrian are not allowed to use the bicycle lane
3 cyclists are not allowed to cycle in parallel at the bicycle lane at one time
All bicycle must use the provided zebra crossings at the main road in order
to switch roads

Any bicycle who is not using the provided bicycle lane will be compounded
