CLAIM: Who killed Carelton Comet?

1. Karyotype Matching:
Crime Scene 1: Sam Sophomore and
Carelton Comet
Crime Scene 2: Nancy Normal

2. DNA Fingerprinting Gel:

Crime Scene 1: Theresa Terra and Carelton
Comet
Crime Scene 2: Glen Glee

3. Pedigree Chart:
People with motive:
1. Glen Glee
2. Carelton Comet
3. Fred Flimmer
4. Nancy Normal
5. Theresa Terra
6. Sam Sophomore

By using the the karyotypes of

each individual that was at crime
scene one we were able to see a
distinct match in the chromosomes
that belonged to both Sam
Sophomore and Carelton Comet. Both
individuals were born with XYY
syndrome which caused them to have
one X chromosome and two Y
chromosomes. However crime scene
twos karyotype showed Trisomy X
syndrome and the only crime scene
suspect that had that syndrome was
Nancy Normal.
After running the finger prints
on gel, the different colors separated
and we were able to identify the
fingerprints by matching the bands of
colors and their pattern to the crime
scene fingerprint. Crime scene 1s run
was a match to Sam Sophomore and
Carelton Comet and crime scene 2
matched to Nancy Normals
fingerprint.
The pedigree charts that we
made for each of the possible
suspects showed the family history of
diseases, deaths, and blood types that
could been motive for the killer. Every
one of the people that were at the
scene when the murder occurred had
some type of possible motive. Glen
Glee's was adopted which could have
resulted in trust issues, Carelton
Comet came from prison which means
he has a violent past and had
changed his name, and Fred
Flimmer's sister and his aunt Joan
were killed by Freds dad Thomas
Sandstone! Nancy Normals father
past away from Huntington's disease
which surprisingly was not passed
down to her even though it is a
dominant disease. Theresa Terras
dad died and Sam Sophomore is an
orphan because his parents died from
Huntingtons disease. These deaths

and family issues could have driven

any one of the possible suspects to
murder.
4. Blood Type Matching:
Crime Scene 1: Carleton Comet, Fred
Flimmer, and Sam Sophomore
Crime Scene 2: Glen Glee, Nancy Normal,
Theresa Terra

5. Fingerprint Matching:
Result:
Carelton Comet
6. Fiber Analysis:
Result:
Human Hair

7. Ink Chromatography:

We began by first identifying

the blood types of each possible
suspects and from there we began to
analyze our results. After making the
pedigrees we realized that most of the
people in the time of the murder were
some way related to each other, which
is why every person in this activity
could be a suspect because this blood
type is a match to either crime scene1
or 2. The results were as follows:
Crime Scene 1: Carelton Comet, Fred
Flimmer, and Sam Sophomore ; Crime
Scene 2: Glen Glee, Nancy Normal,
Theresa Terra
For this activity we transferred
the fingerprint found at the crime
scene onto a blank sheet of paper in
der to clearly identify the shape and
pattern of the fingerprint which was a
perfect match to Carelton Comets.
During the fiber analysis we
observed different types of hair and
compared it to the hair sample found
at the crime scene. The piece of hair
was later identified as human hair.
The human hair was later used to
trace the DNA back to the suspect.
Ink chromatography, in this
instance, was where we used each
pen and used alcohol to separate
each of the pigments so we were able
to correctly match the pen that wrote
the nte and the person who the pen
belonged to.

CLEAR paragraph:`
Over the past month we have been researching the murder of Carelton Comet and our
conclusion is that Nancy Normal was the murderer. For this project we used forensic science to
identify and match different pieces of evidence to the possible suspects. This project taught us
how diseases can be transferred, ways to display the transfer of diseases, how to identify blood

types, how to read a karyotypes, ink cartography, fingerprinting, DNA fingerprinting, and how to
identify different fibers. We began with the fiber analysis where the piece of hair was identified
as human hair. We then used the DNA from the hair and and ran it through electrophoresis
where it was identified as San Sophomores or Carelton Comets hair sample for crime scene 1
and Glen Glee's for crime scene 2. Though this did not have Nancy Normals name on it, the
later evidence did. Next we identified the fingerprint found at the crime scene, as belonging to
Carelton Comet. We transferred the fingerprint found at the crime scene onto a blank sheet of
paper in der to clearly identify the shape and pattern of the fingerprint which was a perfect
match to Carelton Comets. We then moved onto ink cartography. At the murder scene, there
was a note that was written in black ink. And to help solve the crime we needed to find the pen
owner. To discover this we drew a dot with each of the black pens that each possible suspect
owned on a strip of paper. Then we added Isopropyl rubbing alcohol to the paper to measure
the distance each color pigment traveled from the starting point of the dot. We used those
measurements and appearance of the paper to match it to the pen that belonged to Nancy
Normal. Next in line for assessment were the little drops of blood found at the crime scenes. We
began by first identifying the blood types of each possible suspects and from there we began to
analyze our results. After making the pedigrees we realized that most of the people in the time
of the murder were some way related to each other, which is why every person in this activity
could be a suspect because this blood type is a match to either crime scene 1 or 2. The results
were as follows: Crime Scene 1: Carelton Comet, Fred Flimmer, and Sam Sophomore ; Crime
Scene 2: Glen Glee, Nancy Normal, Theresa Terra. By using the the karyotypes of each
individual that was at crime scene one we were able to see a distinct match in the
chromosomes that belonged to both Sam Sophomore and Carelton Comet. Both individuals
were born with XYY syndrome which caused them to have one X chromosome and two Y
chromosomes. However crime scene twos karyotype showed Trisomy X syndrome and the only
crime scene suspect that had that syndrome was Nancy Normal. For the DNA fingerprinting
analysis we used the DNA found in the human hair sample. We then pipetted the DNA, that had
already gone through PCR, from each suspect and each crime scene. Next the gel containing
the DNA went through a process called electrophoresis, where electronic waves are shot
through gel separating different macromolecules. That left us with different colored bands on the
gel. The results of this activity were San Sophomore and Carelton Comet matched to crime
scene 1 and Glen Glee matched to crime scene 2. Over all Nancy Normal is the murderer
because after he father dies she became very protective of her friends and realized that
Carleton Comet is a very dangerous man.
