Donald John Trump of New York was inaugurated as the 45th president of the United States on the
west steps of the Capitol in Washington, D.C., at noon on Friday, 20 January 2017, as prescribed by the
20th Amendment to the Constitution. The oath he took is prescribed by Article II, Section 1, of the
Constitution: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of
the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of
the United States.” Immediately after taking the oath of office, President Trump delivered this address.
