In her new role, Barnes plans to raise visibility and enhance the publics understanding of Winstons positive impact on the Greater Dallas Area. Winston is one of the best kept secrets on the Dallas education scene. We are having such a positive impact on our students, families, and communities - its exciting and we need to share our story with a wider audience, Barnes said. Prior to accepting her new position at The Winston School, Barnes served in the Northern California Nevada Conference of the United Church of Christ. She has led both the Congregational Church of San Mateo, and the Danville Congregational Church as their Educational Minister for children, youth and families. Before attending seminary, Barnes was a commercial banker at Chase Manhattan and Bank of America. Her 15 years in ministry and 10 years of experience in banking make her the perfect fit for her new position with The Winston School. Amongst her many accomplishments, Barnes served on the Board of Trustees at the Graduate Theological Union, associated with the University of California in Berkeley, CA. She also served as the chairman of the board of directors for Contra Costa Interfaith Housing in Pleasant Hill, CA - a permanent, supportive housing development for formerly homeless families. Barnes received a Doctor of Ministry degree from the University of Creation Spirituality (now Wisdom University of Graduate Studies) in Oakland, CA and her Masters of Divinity from the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley. Rebbie Evans, Head of School, states, "The Winston School is thrilled to have Laura Barnes join our community as the new Director of Development.
