Worksheet 9. Reading: Global Warming

Read the passage about global warming. Then, on the next page, answer the
questions about the passage.

Global Warming
The climate of the earth is getting warmer. That is a fact. We have to do
something now to stop global warming, or the earth will change too much.
Too many harmful gases in the atmosphere cause global warming. These
gases come from cars, factories, power plants that make electricity, and
other things. The problem is huge. It affects the whole planet. But you can
do some things to work against global warming.
Here are some things you can, should or must do:
1) Save electricity. For example, turn off lights and electrical appliances
when you are not using them; take shorter showers to use less hot water.
Use a fan instead of an air conditioner on a hot day.
2) Take good care of your car. The engine should be efficient. In this way, it
wont make so many harmful gases.
3) Walk or ride a bike when you can instead of driving a car. Cars make a lot
of harmful gases.
4) Recycle your garbage. This means that some parts of the garbage can be
used again after a special process.
5) Plant trees and other plants where you can. Plants take carbon dioxide, a
bad gas, out of the air and send oxygen, a good gas, into the air.
