AMERICAN LEGION RIDERS CHAPTER 24 MEETING MINUTES

17 December 2016
Call to order: A general membership meeting of ALR 24 was held at American Legion Post 24,
Tombstone, AZ on 17 December 2016. The meeting was called to order at 10:03 am, President Robert
Davenport presiding, and Karen Arnold, Secretary.

Opening ceremony: Prayer offered by Beth Hill; Pledge led by Robert Davenport; Resolution No.
288 read by Robert Davenport.

Minutes: Motion made by Mary Jo Burns to accept the minutes of the November meeting as posted.
Motion was seconded and passed.

Officers' Reports:
President Robert Davenport:
Vice President Ron Heilman, Sr: Awarded Wild Bunch patches to Karen Arnold and Ken Schultz; having
ridden 1500 miles for Trophy Steals; also reported that Post 24 will be hosting the next Trophy Steal on
20 December at 1200 hrs.
Treasurer Joanne Weier: Presented the finance report. Jim Burns moved to accept the financials as
presented subject to audit. The motion was seconded and passed.
Adjutant Dennis Beck: Reported that Rebecca Porter (daughter of Bob and Mary Porter) has applied for
membership as a Supporter; also presented Walt and Chrystine Howe as transfers from Post 11, Douglas.

Having been vetted, Dennis Beck moved to approve their memberships. The motion was seconded and
passed.
JAG Jim Burns: No report.
Sergeant-at-Arms Leon Vassar: No report.
Chaplains Report: Both Kevin Parkin and Bob Porter have had surgery recently. President Robert
Davenport added that Glynn Myers (Ride Director, Casa Grande ALR 8) and his passenger were killed in a
motorcycle accident in Mesa on 9 December.

Committee Reports:
Mission Complete: Robert Talbot announced awards earned: Mary Porter and Bill Singer 1st Award;
Karen Arnold 2nd; Pete Strout 3rd; Vince Fero 5th; Ron Heilman, Jr 6th; Jack Weller 10th; and Bill
Bizzak 25th award.
Legion of the Silver Rose: Ken Thorpe announced that Ron Heilman, Jr will be taking over as Nation
Director of the LSR, effective 1 January 2017.
Blind Vets: Volunteers are needed for a visit to Tombstone o/a 28 January 2017. Details are
forthcoming.

Guest Speaker: Mr Dick Perry, NEC, shared a short video documenting some of Arizonas WWI
heroes and spoke of the importance of Post Historians.

Unfinished Business:
AZALR Campout 2017 planning is underway; members are invited to attend the quarterly meeting in
Phoenix on 14 January; Some members participated in the Christmas parade held in Tombstone on 10
December; Christmas Toy Delivery, sponsored by SVFD, is scheduled for 18 December at 0800 hrs. Those
who wish to participate will meet in the K Mart parking lot NLT 0745 hrs.

New Business:
Consider nominations for ALR Officers for March elections. New officers will be installed 1 May 2017
AFTER the State Campout.

Todays Ride: Christmas party at Robert and Janets home following the meeting.
Announcements:
Jim Burns has brought the laminator to laminate your AL membership card(s) for a $1 donation made to
the Give a Damn fund.

The next Trophy Steal is 20 December in Tombstone. The Post opens at 0900 and the steal will be as
1200 noon.
22 April 2017 Eagles on Wheels at Post 11, Douglas, AZ.

The next regular meeting will be 21 January at 10:00 am.
