SFS1-CPU Main Board Installation Sheet

Cautions

Circuit boards are sensitive to electrostatic discharge

(ESD). To avoid damage, follow ESD handling
procedures.

If removing the SFS1-CPU main board, first pull out the

four plungers securing it to the electronics chassis. Failure
to do so may result in damage to the main board.

To install the SFS1-CPU:

1.

Install any cards required as described on the installation

sheets received with the cards.

2.

Connect the data ribbon cable (P/N 250189-01) to J17 on

the back of the SFS1-CPU and the power supply cable
(P/N 250187-01) to J15. See Figure 1.

Description

3.

Feed the cables between the chassis rails. See Figure 2.

The SFS1-CPU Main Board processes all information from

modules installed in the same cabinet and from other control
panels in the life safety network. In addition, the SFS1-CPU
Main Board provides:

4.

Connect the loose end of the data ribbon cable to J1 on

the PS10-4B power supply and the power supply cable
to J2.

5.

Align the SFS1-CPU plungers and any option card with

the plunger holes and card guides on the electronics
chassis as shown in Figure 2.

6.

Gently push the SFS1-CPU card until it is firmly seated,

and then press the four plungers into place.

Identification of hardware and software faults, and ground

3-SDC1 card to provide a second SLC

An Ethernet connection for panel programming and

diagnostics (requires an optional SFS1-ETH1 card)

Connections for the network data and digital audio risers

(requires an optional 3X-NET8, 3-NET, 3X-FIB8, or
3X-FIB card)

Connections for R-Series remote annunciators

Connections for communication with FireWorks

workstations

Connections for communication with a building

management system (requires an optional field server
bridge)

Wiring
Connect the SFS1-CPU field wiring as shown in Figure 3
through Figure 13. See Figure 1 and Table 1 for the
connectors and terminals on the SFS1-CPU.
Notes

Installation

WARNING: Electrocution hazard. To avoid personal injury or

death from electrocution, remove all sources of power and
allow stored energy to discharge before installing or removing
equipment.

2013 UTC Fire & Security Americas Corporation, Inc.

General wiring notes:

All field wiring connections to the SFS1-CPU are

made using plug-in terminal blocks.

Maintain 0.25 in. (6 mm) separation between powerlimited and nonpower-limited wiring at all times. Keep
nonpower-limited wiring in the shaded area shown in
Figure 13. Secure the wiring to the cabinet using
nylon cable ties.

Wiring is power-limited.

Network data and digital audio wiring notes:

1/8

Network data and digital audio wiring is supervised

and unshielded.

P/N 3101773-EN REV 04 ISS 05AUG13

When connecting the network data riser, always wire

the Network B (isolated) terminals on one SFS1-CPU
module to the Network A (nonisolated) terminals on
the next. See Figure 5.

SLC wiring notes:

SLC wiring is supervised.

SLC2 (TB2) wiring is configured the same as SLC1

(TB1).

When connecting SLC wiring, if shielding is used it

must be continuous, terminated at the shield terminal,
taped throughout the entire circuit, and free from earth
ground.

SLC AUX power wiring is unsupervised.

SLC AUX power on loops 1 and 2 is nonisolated and

not used for loop smoke power.

SLC AUX power on loop 2 (TB2) is available whether

or not a second 3-SDC1 card is installed.

SLC smoke power (SMK PWR) on loop 2 (TB2) is not

available unless a second 3-SDC1 card is installed.

Notes

Common relay wiring is unsupervised and power-limited only when connected to a power-limited source.

For common relay wiring, the end-of-line resistor (EOLR) is determined by the initiating device circuit requirements.

Common trouble relay operation does not include AC trouble delay functionality. As such, it cannot be used for reporting AC troubles off
premises. To report AC troubles off premises, use a 3-MODCOM Modem Communicator Module.
