Abstract Using multiple assessment tools will help any educator check for student comprehension. I focus on formal and informal assessment techniques in my classroom. Peggy Maki author of Using Multiple Assessment Methods to Explore Student Learning and Development Inside and Outside of the Classroom focuses on using direct and indirect methods that are very similar. The author stresses how important it is to use multiple forms of assessment.

Literature Review Domain B This literature review is for Using Multiple Assessment Methods to Explore Student Learning and Development Inside and Outside of the Classroom by Peggy Maki. Using multiple forms of assessments in the classroom is very important to ensure all students have an understanding of the content. I focus on using a mix of informal and formal assessments. Peggy Maki suggests using a variety of assessments as well through out instruction often culminating in a portfolio, capstone or final essay. For my informal assessments I first focus on st8udent discussions. I like to rotate around the classroom to listen when students are sharing in pairs or with their table groups. I also like to use a random student selector to ensure that all students are given an equal chance to share with the class and everyone is required to participate since they maybe chosen. According to Maki this would be a form of indirect assessment. Student focus group, providing interpretations or perceptions of student learningprovides another lens to view information through (Maki, 2002). The student groups can provide a snapshot of student understanding and I can see if there needs to be re-teaching in smaller groups. Another type of informal assessment that I enjoy using is Kahoot, an informal gamification tool. Kahoot can be used as a informal quiz, a chance to review material, or an introductory survey. I have used Kahoot multiple times this students always enjoy it and it is fun to see who wins on the leaderboard. For this domain I have even included a Kahoot I created to review point of view with my students. As for formal assessments I enjoy the idea of creating a portfolio and my students have done so using Google Slides. With that project they created a slide for each chapter in the book Esperanza Rising. They completed a Self- Assessment prior to submitting their work which I

think is another important assessment tool. The students should review their own work and the work of each other. The formal assessment is compared against a rubric and the students are set up to succeed with their portfolio. With assessments teachers must also learn to make modifications to instruction if students do not comprehend the information. Interpretations of multiple assessment results contribute to a comprehensive understanding of how well and under what pedagogies or educational experiences students learn (Maki, 2002). If a teacher has provided instructions or information in one way and a majority of students do not understand then the teacher must be able to make modifications to the lesson plan. Per Domain B of the Teacher Performance Expectations Candidates understand and use a variety of informal and formal, as well as formative and summative assessments, at varying levels of cognitive demand to determine students progress and plan instruction (Commission on Teacher Credentialing, 2013). For Domain B I have included the Kahoot that I created to help students review different points of view. Using Kahoot I am able to see which students got which questions incorrect and if re-teaching is needed for a majority of the class. The Kahoot is also a great chance to reteacher right in the moment and review why the correct answer was correct. Students enjoy this review process as well. The other artifact I included shows student work and multiple assessment tools for reviewing point of view. I included Cornell Notes, a formal quiz, and a passage that students were required to rewrite in a different point of view. This artifact was included to show additional assessments that I have implemented in the classroom.
