RequirementforDrivinglicense(DL)
Forlightvehicledrivinglicenseanapplicantmusthave
completed18yearsofage,and21yearsforheavyduty
vehicleandtruckdrivinglicenses.
Anapplicantmustbefitandfreefromanyhandicapor
diseasethathampershisabilitytodrive.Personswith
certaindisabilitiesmaybemedicallyexaminedinorderto
decidewhethertheyareabletodriveornot..
Thesponsorsnonobjection(Thisisexemptedrecently)
Thebloodgroup
Copyofthelaborcardandcopyofthepassport
Anunemployedladymustproducecopyofherhusbands
labourcardandaletterfromhissponsorconfirmingthat
sheisinOmaninthecompanyofherhusband

Aforeigntouristcanusehisowncountry'sdrivinglicence
oraninternationaldrivinglicencefor3months.
Therearetotal5teststopass.

2.TrafficSignTest:Needtoidentifytheroadsigns.

2.PeoplewhowantstolearnandgetaDL.
People,whohavealreadyDLfromtheirrespective
country.

Advantages:

Tests:
No.3(Drumtest)andNo.4(SlopeTest)areexempted.
OnlytestsNo.2(SignTest)andNo.5(RoadTest)need
topassandTestNo.1iscommontoall.

Forexample:weconsiderapersonhasIndianDL.
ThepersonhastohaveValidIndianDL(DLhastobevalid
anditsupposedtobeoneyearold,otherwiseROPwill
rejecttoavailthisfacility)andphotocopyofDLhasto
attestbyIndianEmbassy(asexample)andMinistryof
ForeignAffairsoffice.

Step2:Askfor"Attestation"atthefirstcounter,
respectiveGovt.Employeewillgiveyouwaitingnumber
andcounternumberslip.wehavetowaituntilournumber
comes.
Step3:Atthecounter,wehavetogiveallphotocopies.
Govt.Employeewillverifyallthedocuments.(Note:If
anymismatchinnameofDLandPassport,he/shewill
reject.He/shemayasktoshowanyoftheoriginal
documentsasmentionedabove)Hewillpasstonext
countertopaythefees.
Step4:Feesapproximatelynearto5Riyals(InCash)
Step5:Aftercollectingthefees,theywillgiveyoua
receiptasacknowledgementanddeliverydate&timeto
collect.(Almostsameday)
Step6:CollecttheattestedDLcopyisalmostsameday
(Afternoonhoursmaybe2:00PMto4:30PM).Anybodycan
collectthedocument,ifhe/shehasthereceipt.
Step7:Thesameattestedcopyhastobeattestedby
MinistryofForeignAffairsofOman.(Approximatetimings
8:00AMto12:00PM)
Step8:InMinistryofForeignAffairsalsoneedtotake
waitingnumberandhavetowaittillnumbercomes.Here
wehavetopay3Riyals(Approximate).Theattestedcopy
willbegivenimmediately.

Oneofthemclearedin7thattemptandanotheristrying
still.
Askmistakesofothers.
Afterdrivingtest,ROPwillgiveyoufeedback.Ifyouare
pass,hewillsayorfail,hewillsay,whyheisfailing.
Somereasonsforfailingarementionedbelow(few
experiencesofmyfriends)
ReasonsSolutions
1.TiretouchedyellowlineAnycircumstances,vehicle
shouldnottouchyellowline.

2.Oneofpedestrianscrossingroad,myfriendhonked
Allowpedestrianstocross.

3.Oneofpedestrianscrossingroad,myfrienddidnothonk
Shouldhonkif,pedestriancrossingmainroadother
thanzebrapath.
4.Oneoftwowheelerovertookfromrightsidetomy
friend'sdrivingcar,whentheseguyswerewaitingfor
trafficsignalShouldnotgivemuchspaceatrightside,
alwaysgivespaceleftsidesothatotherscanovertake.
5.AtRoundAbout,ROPaskedmyfriendtogoright.My
frienddidn'tunderstandwhichright?Firstrightorsecond
right.SoheaskedonceagainbyturningtowardsROP,ROP
didnotreply....hecrossedsecondrightalsoROPdidn't
reply...Sohetookvehicleonemoreround.Atsecond
roundhetookfirstrightturn.Pleasereferthe
DirectionsofRoundAboutasmentionedaboveoneof
abovefigures.
6.Myfriendwasholdingsteeringwithopenfingers.
Steeringhastoheldstrongenoughthatitshouldntslip
whiledriving
7.Drivingslowlythanspeedlimitforthatparticularroad
Shouldmaintainspeedlimit(5KM+or)
Ifeverythinggoeswell,youwillbepassedandyoucan
collectyourlicensenextdaybypaying20OmanRiyalsin
ROPstation(ByVisa/Credit/debitcard).Youhavetake2
passportsizephotosandlaborResidentcardalongwith
you.Note:Iheard,till3mothsDLlicensewillbein
observationperiod.Ifyoumetwithmajoraccidentthen
yourDLwillbecancelled.

Remember:Ifyoufailinthedrivingtest,youwillget
anotherchancetopassitbutifyoufailtrafficroad,there
willbenosecondchance.
