Overview: The purpose of this assignment is to provide a window into your VTS practice with students. It will allow your instructor to observe you remotely for the purpose of offering constructive feedback and mentoring the growth of your VTS facilitation skills. IT DOES NOT REQUIRE CINEMATOGRAPHY SKILLS NOR DOES IT ASSESS YOUR THEATRICAL ABILITIES! It should, however, provide a visible and audible record of you facilitating an authentic VTS discussion in its entirety with students. If you stumble on a question or response, keep the camera rolling! If a student acts up or cuts up, keep the camera rolling! Let the video capture the real world, real teaching, and real VTS! VIDEO A Instructions: The main focus of Video A will be YOU; your adherence to the 3 essential questions and use of the teacher behaviors that facilitate student engagement. Therefore, train the camera on you and the image you are presenting. Dim the lights so that the image is reasonably visible, but dont turn them off completely so that you remain visible. Students faces will not show, but their voices should be heard. Therefore, test the audio volume of your recording device beforehand to ensure audibility. The discussion should last approximately 10 -15 minutes. VIDEO B Instructions: The main focus of Video B will be your NEUTRAL DELIVERY OF VTS QUESTIONS, USE OF CONDITIONAL LANGUAGE IN PARAPHRASING & LINKING OF STUDENT ANSWERS (agreements & disagreements). Again, the focus of the video will be YOU. Dim the lights so that the image is reasonably visible, but dont turn them off completely so that you remain visible. Be sure student voices and yours can be heard by testing the audio volume beforehand to ensure audibility. The discussion should last approximately 10 - 15 minutes. VIDEO C Instructions: Video C will focus on SCAFFOLDING VOCABULARY & IDEAS as you facilitate critical VTS examination of an image selected by you. It will also evidence how you have you grown as a VTS facilitator and how your students have grown as critical thinkers and evidential reasoners. Additionally, it will help you assess the success of your image choice and the discussion surrounding it. As usual, the video focus will be you and your VTS practice. Dim the lights so that the image is reasonably visible, but dont turn them off completely so that you remain visible. Be sure student voices and yours can be heard by testing the audio volume beforehand to ensure audibility. The discussion should last approximately 10-15 minutes.
