PART B (40 marks)

6. a. Derive the expressions for Isotropically reinforced square slab fixed on all edges and subjected to a
uniformly distributed load.
(8)
(OR)
b. Derive the expressions for orthotropically reinforced rectangular slab, simply supported along its
edges and subjected to udl of w/unit area.
(8)
7. a. A square interior panel of a intermediate floor is of effective dimension 5.0m x 5.0m. The live load on
the floor is 2.50 kN/m2. Finishes is 1 kN/m2. Analysis the slab using yield line approach and design the
slab. Use M20 concrete and Fe415 steel.
(16)
(OR)
b. Derive the expression for calculating the ultimate moment of resistance for a simply supported
rectangular slab.

8. a. Write the design procedure for Yield line theory.
(16)
(OR)
b. Design a rectangular slab 5.0m x 4.0m in size and simply supported at the edges to support a service
load live of 4.0kN/m2. Assume coefficient () as 0.70 and adopt M20 grade concrete and Fe415 HYSD
bars. Assume load factors according to IS 456-2000 code standards.
