Internship for 2017 at MEASURE Evaluation

MEASURE Evaluation is looking for an intern in its Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Unit for summer 2017
with possibility of extension into the 2017-2018 academic year. We are seeking a student who can commit
30-40 hours per week for the summer semester and has a basic understanding of monitoring and
evaluation principles. This is a good opportunity for a public health student to gain hands-on experience
in the monitoring and evaluation of various types of global health activities. Please visit

Project description: MEASURE Evaluation is a USAID-funded project implemented by the Carolina


Population Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in partnership with Tulane University,
ICF International, John Snow Inc., Palladium, and Management Sciences for Health. MEASURE Evaluation
provides technical leadership through collaboration at local, national, and global levels to advance the
field of global health monitoring and evaluation. We enable countries to strengthen their systems to
generate high quality health information that is used for decision making at local, national, and global
levels. We build the sustainable capacity of individuals and organizations to identify data needs, collect
and analyze technically sound data, and use that data for health decision making. We create, implement
and facilitate state-of-the-art methods for and approaches to improving monitoring and evaluation,
health information systems, and data use. We collect, share, and disseminate information, knowledge,
and best practices in order to support evidence-based decision making.

General description of the position: Within MEASURE Evaluation, the M&E Unit is responsible for
implementing the Project Monitoring Plan (PMP) and monitoring MEASURE Evaluation project activities
as they achieve measurable results. The M&E Unit Intern would report to the Senior M&E Officer and
work on a daily basis with the M&E Officers. The primary responsibility of the M&E Unit Intern would be
to assist with monitoring results, including reviewing existing documentation and documenting baselines
for capacity building-related activities. The intern will use the MEASURE Evaluation Management
Information System (MIS) to access information and manage results.

Responsibilities include:
Conduct desk reviews to help document baselines for capacity building-related activities
Work with M&E Officers to identify gaps in data needed to document these baselines and
develop plans to fill them
Maintain a web-based database for monitoring activity results. This will include data entry for
finalized results and data cleaning for previously entered data
Maintain database of MEASURE Evaluation trainings and information sharing products
Contact MEASURE Evaluation project staff to document results and collect evidence for results
reporting
Other occasional M&E Unit assignments

Work Schedule: 30-40 hours/week starting May 22 through August 18. Exact dates are negotiable.

Skills required: The student should be a conscientious, detail-oriented self-starter requiring minimal
supervision and should have a general interest in monitoring global public health programs. Proficient in
French.

Salary: $22 per hour
