Yoga Final Project

In yoga, we have learned about and practiced mindfulness as a technique to manage the many
stressors you have in your life. Your final project (and only portfolio-worthy assignment of the
semester) will have you reflecting on these experiences. The final project will have 3 parts:

1. Reflection on stress journals

2. Leading the class in a mindfulness exercise
3. Recommendation for BACS on integration of mindfulness into the curriculum

The presentation must be at minimum 10 minutes long, with a maximum of 15 minutes.

We will be presenting the final projects on January 12, January 19, and January 26 (the
last day of class). You will have time in class to work on these projects on December
15 and January 5.

Outline of Project (with suggestions):

1. Reflection on Stress Journals
a. Read through all of the journal entries you have made for this class.
What do you notice? Are there any patterns? Have you gotten more stressed or less
stressed as the semester continued? How do you cope with stress? Do you think you
cope with stress well? Does doing stress journals help you manage stress in any
way? Why or why not? Would it be more helpful to keep journals every day? What
give you more stress- school, friends, or family? What do you have control of? What
is out of your control?
b. How you can format this: Written reflection, PowerPoint, drawing
2. Leading the class in a mindfulness exercise
a. Think about what you enjoyed most (yoga, deep relaxation-lying down,
meditation- sitting up, sound meditation, walking meditation, art therapy,
journaling). Pick one (or more) of these and put together a mindfulness activity for
the class (about 5 minutes)!
b. How you can format this; use something from the internet (cite your
sources!) or make something up!
c. Helpful Youtube channels for ideas: Yoga with Adriene, HeadSpace, The
Honest Guys
3. Recommendation for BACS on integration of mindfulness into the
curriculum
a. Lets inform our community! Is mindfulness important for high school
students to learn? Why or why not? Support this idea with evidence. How should
BACS integrate it? In advisory? In every class? Once a month? Once a week? Should
all students get an app on their phones? Should it be a required class? Should we
have a space in the building dedicated to mindfulness?
b. How you can format this: PowerPoint, written statement, informational
poster
c. Use research on mindfulness in schools (NewsELA articles or other
articles), or check out some apps on your phone!
