Technical Proposal for xxx Project

Zhengzhou metro line one includes twenty stations (all underground), one control center, one
parking yard, totally 67 trains in service. PIS (Passenger Information System) is used to
broadcast station information, advertisement in platform, in carriage, and ticking hall. Video
surveillance is also used inside the train. Wireless communication system is request to transmit
data between track and on-board unit.
The following requirement description is about CBTC:
The technology used for radio-transmissions is based on LTE standard, compliant with 3GPP
specification.

The LTE system is designed as a bearer of signaling applications, to provide a communication

link between train-borne ATC and trackside applications.

2.2 Passenger Information System Requirement

The passenger information system (PIS) uses multimedia network technologies and computer
systems to provide information services for passengers using subway and on-board equipment.
The following section describes information services supported by the PIS.

2.2.1 Security Protection Services

The PIS supports high-definition video transmission. To respond to emergencies and accidents,
surveillance cameras transmit dynamic images about subway cars to the police system in real
time.
In an emergency, the PIS preferentially provides real-time guidance for passengers. The
on-board equipment receives information from the radio system, and then forwards the
information to the subway. The subway can broadcast the audio and video information. The
broadcasting information help passengers take the train safely and conveniently. To monitor a
car, the PIS transmits real-time monitoring, detecting, and management data about the car.

2.2.2 Transportation Information Services

The PIS provides the following information to passengers:
Notice
First and last train service time
Arrival time
Timetable
Management announcement
Government announcement
Trip information
News
Live sport events

2.2.3 Value-added Services

The PIS provides a real-time information delivery platform for public media, such as
high-definition advertisements. Time specific advertisement placement is an important
profitability model for advertisement.

Technical Proposal for xxx Project

2.2.4 PIS Bandwidth Requirement

The PIS provides services for a running train, including monitoring and transmitting
high-definition messages related to train management and detection in real time. Therefore, the
train-to-ground wireless system must meet the requirements of high mobility and stable
bandwidths.
In the uplink, on-board surveillance video systems use digital image transmission control devices
to receive and switch videos uploaded by the on-board devices. The on-board surveillance video
system provides required information for the metro personnel, including the chief dispatcher,
transportation coordinator, attendant in the control room of the train segment, and police officer.
MPEG-4 or H.264 is used to compress videos. Video images are transmitted at the bandwidth
ranging from 512 kbit/s to 1.5 Mbit/s for one video. The image quality must meet the requirement
of the D-1 resolution, which is 720 (horizontal) 486 (vertical). The bandwidth occupied by
images using D-1 standard cannot be greater than 1.5 Mbit/s.
Each train uses two videos to transmit video pictures with a maximum bandwidth of 3 Mbit/s. If
12 videos are used to transmit video images in CIF or MPEG-4 format, a minimum bandwidth of
6 Mbit/s is required.
To provide high-definition videos for metro control centers and subway police systems, full
high-definition video monitoring systems are used for future subway constructions.
Video images are compressed in MPEG-2, MPEG-4, or H.264 format, each video occupies a
bandwidth of 4 Mbit/s to 5 Mbit/s. If each train uses two videos to transmit video images, the
minimum bandwidth ranges from 8 Mbit/s to 12 Mbit/s. If 12 videos are used to transmit video
images in MPEG-2, MPEG-4, or H.264 format, a minimum bandwidth of 48 Mbit/s is required.
In the downlink, each train can receive high-definition digital video data of one video with a
bandwidth of 4 Mbit/s to 6 Mbit/s. The digital video data is in MPEG-2, MPEG-4, or H.264 format.

Based on the preceding analysis and 25% redundancy, the minimum transmission bandwidth in
the downlink is 6 Mbit/s. If each train uses two videos to transmit video images with a bandwidth
of 3 Mbit/s, a minimum of 6 Mbit/s is required for uploading data of 12 videos at the same time.
The transmission bandwidth in the uplink and downlink cannot be less than 15 Mbit/s because a
network must provide certain capacity margin in case of traffic bursts.

2.2.5 High Mobility

In this project, the maximum speed of the train is 80 km/h. The train-to-ground wireless
transmission systems must reduce the handover during when a train is running at a high speed
and minimize the data transmission loss caused by handovers. To ensure the continuity of
real-time and high-quality video broadcasting, the train-to-ground wireless transmission system
must ensure that the handover duration is less than 50 ms.

2.3 Train Dispatching Requirement

Based on the LTE broadband data trunking system, the subway-specific wireless audio
dispatching system ensures the safety and transportation efficiency for subway operation. The
system provides the following benefits:
Provides reliable audio and digital data communication between users at fixed locations and
moving locations. Users at fixed locations include dispatchers in the control center and train
segment and station attendant, while moving users include subway drivers, disaster prevention
personnel, and maintenance personnel.
Ensures the safety of subway operations.
Increases transportation efficiency, management efficiency, and service quality.
Provides communication services in disaster and accident scenarios when a fault occurs during
subway operation or in wired communications.

2.3.1 Users
The metro train-to-ground wireless communications system provides services for dispatchers,
drivers, maintenance personnel, and station attendants.

2.3.2 Call Function

Independent call groups can be set up based on user types and call purposes. The metro
wireless communication system supports the following call functions:
Conversations between a dispatcher station and the vehicle-mounted station
Conversations between vehicle-mounted stations.
Conversions between dispatcher stations and wireless terminals such as vehicle-mounted
stations, radio station, or portable terminals.
Conversions between wireless terminals such as the vehicle mounted station, station radio,
or portable radio.
Conversations between wireless and wired communications
Conversations between the vehicle-mounted station or station radio and wired
communications is set by the dispatcher. Conversations between the portable radio and
wired communications is set by an automatic switching system, which has the priority-based
call function.
Conversations between the dispatcher and driver have the highest priority. The conversation
between dispatchers and drivers must be continuous and highly reliable.
Based on different requirements, subscriber stations can start a group call, broadcasting call,
and emergency call.

2.3.3 Grouping
The automatic switching system divides users into different groups based on their departments
and responsibilities. Each user can belong to multiple groups. A call group can be large, middle,
or small.
When the vehicle-mounted station moves in or out of a train segment, switching between the
vehicle-mounted station running call group and the train segment call group is automatically
triggered based on the information provided by the signaling system. Users in a running line call
group can be switched to other required call groups such as the upstream train call group or
downstream train call group.

XXX XXX Project Huawei Confidential Page 8 of 77

Technical Proposal for xxx Project

The dispatcher and train segment attendant can switch between the vehicle-mounted running
line group and train segment group or other groups as required. The train driver can use the
vehicle-mounted station to switch between the vehicle-mounted station line group and train
segment group.

2.4 Train Control System Requirement

Based on the Communication Based Train Control System (CBTC), the eLTE solution provides
real-time bidirectional communications for the on-board equipment and trackside equipment.

2.4.1 Reliability Requirements

To ensure that the on-board equipment accesses radio redundancy coverage and ensure
continuous wireless communications, the train-to-ground wireless communications system must
provide wireless coverage for all main lines and train segments or parking areas and provide
radio redundancy coverage. The wireless communications controller must be configured with
reliable equipment. It must ensure that the equipment switching between active and standby
modes does not affect wireless communication and system functions.

The train-to-ground wireless communications system must meet the following requirements:

Equipment MTBF MTTR

TAU 100,000 Hours

RRU 200,000 Hours <1

BBU 200,000 Hours <1

Core Network 155,000 Hours <1

2.4.2 Performance Requirements

The train-to-ground wireless communication system must meet the following performance
requirements:
Data transmission is real-time, secure, and reliable.
The handover and self-healing duration of transmission channels must be within 100 ms.
The transport delay must be less than 500 ms.
The bit error rate must be less than 10-6.
The packet loss rate must be less than 1%.

2.4.3 Security Requirements

The wireless transmission technology must meet the European or global security standards
related to wireless network and IPsec security standards. To ensure the security during wireless
communication, this system provides functions, such as encryption, firewall, and prevention from
unauthorized access.

2.5 Available Spectrum

In this project, Huawei proposed LTE TDD solution which is the latest wireless technology, which
can provide higher capacity and better frequency efficiency, and TDD scalable for the DL&UL,

XXX XXX Project Huawei Confidential Page 9 of 77

comparing with other wireless technology throughput and also save the investment, Huawei
suggested adopting 20 MHz channel bandwidth for large throughput data service, which means
each channel is 20 MHz.

The data service will utilize the downlink and uplink resource. Huawei customized
uplink-downlink configuration as 2:2 (Type 1) TDD ratio for this project, the average throughput
of each cell is about 30 Mbit/s for downlink and 13 Mbit/s for uplink.

Table 2-1 TDD uplink-downlink configuration

Intra system interference will greatly reduce the cell throughput, so Huawei recommends 40 MHz
frequency resource which will be divided into two channels. The adjacent site will use different
frequency.
The frequency band used by BBRS is tentative planned to 40 MHz range from 4900 MHz to 5900
MHz, the exact frequency band will be defined according to owner's application to local radio
authority.

3 System Design for PIS

3.1 System Architecture

LTE for subway solution is composed of three sub-systems: Control center sub-system, trackside
and station sub-system and on board sub-system.

XXX XXX Project Huawei Confidential Page 10 of 77

Technical Proposal for xxx Project

Figure 3-1 Wireless broadband network architecture

Control center sub-system is deployed at central equipment room, which is located at a main
station or a dedicated building. The LTE core network will receive the media content from Media
server and sent the surveillance video to control center via core switch (GE interface). The LTE
core network is connected to LTE base station eNodeB through core switch and long distance IP
transmission. The LTE core network's role is to control all eNodeB and interconnect with
application servers.
Trackside and station sub-system includes eNodeB, antenna, switch, PIS display and platform
cameras. eNodeB is composed of BBU part and RRU part, normally they are located at station,
but some RRUs could be remotely connected to cover longer track section. BBU interface with
core network via switch in station (FE interface), which also transfers the information from media
server or control center to platform camera and LCD with wire connection.
On board sub-system includes train access unit (TAU), rooftop antenna, switch and other on
board cameras and LCD. There are duplicate 2 set of TAU (LTE wireless terminal), rooftop
antenna and LCD controller separately at the front driver cabin and rear driver cabin, but only
one set in the front driver cabin are working, another set is standby in case of failure. The TAU
will connect on-board camera's image and send to the control center, LCD's media content is
also from TAU.

through the on-board switch.

3.3 QoS Management Policy

To carry video and signal services at the same time, the PIS identifies the service type and
prioritizes the services for scheduling. In this way, the QoS requirements can be met. In the LTE
system, different services have different QoS policies.

3.3.1 QoS of Different Services

The PIS maps UE data to different EPS bearers based on the following items:
IP address (source or target)
IP port number (source or target)
Protocol (FTP or HTTP) The data traffic on the same EPS bearer has the same QoS
requirements. Different EPS bearers provide different QoS requirements.
During the initial attach procedure, the PIS sets up a default EPS bearer for the UE based on the
subscribed QoS level. Each UE has at least one active EPS bearer, which ensures a shorter
delay for a UE after the UE begins to run services.

XXX XXX Project Huawei Confidential Page 12 of 77

Technical Proposal for xxx Project

3.3.2 QoS Policy

The QoS policy for each EPS bearer is determined based on the QoS class identifier (QCI) and
allocation/retention priority (ARP).

Table 3-1 Mapping relationship between QCIs and service types

By using methods such as resource reservation, the eNodeB transports data flows when the bit
rate is lower than or equal to the GBR. When the bit rate is higher than the GBR but is lower than
the maximum bit rate (MBR), the eNodeB processes the data flow based on network conditions.
If the network is congested, the eNodeB discards the data flow. If the network is not congested,
the eNodeB transports the data flow. A GBR bearer has GBR resources, while a non-GBR
bearer does not GBR resources.
The eNodeB does not allow the bit rate of the data flow to exceed the MBR using traffic limitation.
The MBR must be greater than or equal to the GBR. Currently, the MBR equals the GBR due to
the UE capability.
The ARP applies to GBR and non-GBR bearers at the same time. The ARP of a bearer is used to
decide whether the requested bearer can be established in case of radio congestion. The
eNodeB can preempt the priority of an existed bearer for when a new bearer is set up based on

XXX XXX Project Huawei Confidential Page 13 of 77

Technical Proposal for xxx Project

the ARP. The ARP and QCI are used for access control before and after a bearer is set up,
respectively.

The eNodeB does not allow the aggregated bit rate of a data stream group to exceed the
aggregate maximum bit rate (AMBR) by using traffic limitation. Multiple EPS bearers can use the
same AMBR. Any EPS bearer can use the complete AMBR if no data is transmitted on the other
EPS bearers. The AMBR limits the aggregated bit rate expected on all EPS bearers related to an
AMBR. The eNodeB discards the redundant data flows. The AMBR applies to all non-GBR
bearers. However, the traffic on the GBR bearers does not in the AMBR value range.

3.3.3 QoS Control

An EPS bearer passes through different NEs and ports and maps to different lower bearers over
each port. Each network node maintains identifiers of lower bearers and the relationship
between the lower bearers.

In a railway transportation system, the QoS policies can be distinguished for services that
include videos, train information, and signals based on IP addresses or over ports.

3.4 Redundancy Backup Scheme for On-board TAU

The following figure shows the Ethernet cable connection between two TAUs in the two ends of a
train.

The two TAUs work in primary and secondary modes. When a TAU starts up, it detects whether
there is another TAU within the local area network (LAN) in the train.
If only one TAU is used, the TAU works in primary mode. If two TAUs are used, the TAUs
negotiate with each other to determine which one is used as the primary TAU.

The working mode of TAUs can be configured. Then, the TAUs start up based on the configured
working mode.

If two TAUs work properly, they have a heartbeat detection mechanism. If the secondary TAU
detects that the primary TAU is faulty, the secondary works as the primary TAU. Then, the
original primary TAU restarts.

XXX XXX Project Huawei Confidential Page 14 of 77

Technical Proposal for xxx Project

In most cases, the primary TAU transmits and receives data and the secondary TAU is used for
system backup.

3.5 Wireless Coverage in Tunnels

3.5.1 Networking Solution
Underground railways are built in tunnels, which have a lot of corners. If the mode of radio
transmission in free space is used in tunnels, the coverage is limited and network deployment
requires high cost. Therefore, leaky coaxial cables instead of antennas are used for providing
coverage in tunnels. For subways, all commercial communications and dedicated cluster
communications systems provide wireless coverage using leaky coaxial cables. Therefore, the
eLTE system will provide coverage by sharing leaky coaxial cables with these systems.
Based on the LTE TDD technology, the baseband unit (BBU) and radio frequency unit (RRU)
must be installed in the subway. The BBU is installed in the equipment room with low voltage,
while the RRU is installed near the leaky coaxial cable on the tunnel wall. To provide wireless
coverage in tunnels, the system uses the combiner to combine the public network signals output
by the point of interface (POI), and then sends the wireless signals to the two leaky coaxial
cables of the commercial communications system. To provide wireless coverage for long tunnels,
more RRUs and multi-frequency combiners are required. The multi-frequency combiner is
installed near the leaky coaxial cables on the tunnel wall. The combiner and RRU must meet
requirements specified in IP65 standards.

Leaky coaxial cables can be shared between LTE TDD and other systems after the signals of
these systems are combined. To meet the requirement of 4 Mbit/s bandwidth in the uplink, the
signals in the uplink and downlink in a tunnel must be isolated in two cells. However, the POI
cannot combine the isolated signals with public network signals. An additional combiner is
required for combining the public network signals and the signals are combined by the POI. The
following figure shows the combining scheme.

Leaky coaxial feeder

To adopt the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) of 2T2R technology, the 4T4R RRU is
connected to the two leaky coaxial cables at two ends.

Technical Proposal for xxx Project

Figure 3-3 RRU connection

Leaky coaxial feeder

4 path RRU

The LTE share the leaky coaxial cables with other systems, including GSM, UMTS, and CDMA,
after their signals are combined. In this project, train is 4.15 m high. The two leaky coaxial cables
are installed at the points 1.9 m and 3 m on the tunnel wall at the right side (the direction that the
train runs).
It is recommended that the RRU and BBU are installed in the subway. If the distance of two
metro stations is beyond the RRU coverage capability, install more RRUs in the tunnel. The eLTE
system provides wireless coverage by using the leaky coaxial cable to transmit signals combined
by the combiner. Other systems use feeders and jumpers to transmit signals.

The following figure shows the cell networking in a tunnel.

Downlink f f f f

Uplink f f f f

Handovers are performed in tunnels not at platforms.

The hysteresis of a handover is 2 dB. The handover delay is 240 ms, including the duration of
two handovers. The maximum speed of the train is 80 km/h. The loss of a 100 m leaky coaxial
cable is 4.3 dB. The handover distance is calculated as follows:

Distance to meet the Handover Hysteresis (m) 47

Running Distance During Handover Duration (m) 6

Overlap Distance of Two Handover Cell (m) (47 + 6) x 2 = 106

The LTE system provides the function that handovers are performed without any loss. This
function ensures that no packet is lost when a TAU is handed over between two eNodeBs.

bandwidth is 6 Mbit/s, and two leaky coaxial cables are used, the cell coverage distance is 1.45
km.

3.6 Ground Wireless Coverage

3.6.1 Networking Solution

For the ground track, antennas are used to provide wireless coverage. A 4T4R RRU is mounted
on a pole and functions as two 2T2R RRUs oriented to two directions. Each 2T2R RRU is
connected to a two-path dual-polarized antenna. The antenna gain is 10 dBi. Each antenna is of
0.545 m and is customized. Two 2T2R RRUs are combined to serve one cell. The ground track
has boundary limit. Therefore, the antenna cannot be installed too high. Generally, it cannot be
installed at a point higher than 6 m. The actual installation position is determined based on site
requirements. It is recommended that the antennas be installed at the roof of the metro station
platform. For areas beyond the antenna coverage, install the RRU beside the track and use
antennas to provide coverage.

Figure 3-4 BTS antenna connection

The transmitter power from RRU has been divided and sent to two antennas. This design could
guarantee the train run through the BTS without handover (less interruption).

3.6.2 Frequency Planning

This technical solution suggests using 40 MHz frequency in this project. Total frequency will be
divided into 2 sub channels.

Each site uses one channel for two sectors which belong to one cell. This means the site
configuration is S0.5/0.5.
This design methodology gives two benefits:
Handover will not occur when the train passes the BTS because one site just has one cell. Fewer
handovers will improve the system performance.

Adjacent cells use the different frequency will reduce the interference.

The railway line is in the city of Bangkok and the scenario is dense urban.

The entire railway consists of 16 stations and the total length is about 21 kilometers.
Cell Edge Rate Requirement
Assume that each train needs 6 Mbit/s throughput on downlink and 2 Mbit/s throughput on uplink.
In extreme cases, there are two trains at the edge of cell, so the cell edge downlink throughput
should be 12 Mbit/s, and the cell edge uplink throughput should be 4 Mbit/s.

The eLTE train-to-ground communications system provides data transmission between on-board
equipment and trackside equipment.

5.2 Reliability Solution

Train Control is a safety related service, so high reliability must be guaranteed, no single point
failure is a basic requirement of the train control system.
eLTE solution provides dual network redundancy solution for train control system, including core
network redundancy and radio network redundancy.
There are two separate core network in the control center or at different places as geography
redundancy. In each site, 2 set of base stations are deployed with 2 set of frequency band.
2 TAUs are mounted on one train, one at the front end, another one at the rear end, these 2 TAUs
camp on different radio network (different frequency band), both are transmitting.
For control system CBTC, there are 2 separate transmission channel (from core network to base
station, TAU), CBTC will transmit the same data on both channels, one is master while another is
slave. If any channel is broken, another channel can continue carrying train control data. There is no
interruption if one transmission is down.

5.3 Wireless Security

5.3.1 Security Risks of LTE Networks

IP transmission cannot provide protection for data confidentiality and integrity due to the IP
protocol attributes. The security risk increases for an LTE network because of the following
reasons:
The controller function is integrated in the eNodeB.
Data transmitted between the eNodeB and evolved packet core (EPC) is in plain text, which is
also used for mobile bearer setup.
No authentication is required for equipment on the transport layer because eNodeBs are
connected in mesh mode.

An LTE network may encounter the following security risks:

Data eavesdropping

Illegal users use mirror to obtain packets over the S1 or X2 port.

XXX XXX Project Huawei Confidential Page 28 of 77

Technical Proposal for xxx Project

Data tampering
Illegal users use diversion mode the obtain packets over the S1 or X2 port, and then send back
to the network after tempering the packets.

Data tampering

Illegal user

Forgery

After the mobile bearer network adopts IP bearers, packets are forwarded based on routes. No
authentication is required for the receiver and transmitter. Therefore, if a hacker attacks the
eNodeB or equipment at the EPC side, he can pretend to be the eNodeB and send packets to
the EPC or pretend to be the EPC to receive packets sent from the eNodeB.

Forgery

XXX XXX Project Huawei Confidential Page 29 of 77

Technical Proposal for xxx Project

Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack

An LTE network has high risks of security threats from the IP network due to the following
reasons:
The LTE data is transmitted over the IP network, which is an open system.
The IP network may share bearers with the fixed network.
The intelligent terminals have a high probability of being attacked or controlled by hackers
because intelligent terminals process large amount of data.

5.3.2 LTE Security Solution

If the network scale and the number of terminals are small, the network may have small security
risks that are described in section 5.3.1 "Security Risks of LTE Networks". After the network
scale is expanded and the number of users increases sharply, a security solution must be
prepared in advance.

To ensure the security of data transmission in an LTE network, deploy the IPsec VPN to encrypt
the packets and authenticate the EPC traffic so that only authorize users can access the
network.

Figure 5-1 Network security solution

A security gateway (SeGW) is deployed at the edge of the EPC and backhaul network. The
SeGW terminates the IPsec channel at the eNodeB side and sets up IPsec channels for
forwarding packets between eNodeBs over the X2 interface.
An LTE network has many eNodeBs. Therefore, IPsec authentication is difficult by configuring
pre-shared key for each piece of equipment. However, the PKI certificate system can provide
bidirectional authentication by delivering and updating certificates for the eNodeB and SeGW.

XXX XXX Project Huawei Confidential Page 30 of 77

Technical Proposal for xxx Project

The GTP security feature on the SeGW provides GTP check, filtering, and limiting for S1-U traffic.
Consequently, the risks of security threat due to GTP protocols can be reduced. At the same time,
the anti-DDoS function is enabled to prevent the EPC from illegal traffics of mobile terminals.

5.4 Wireless Coverage Solution

5.4.1 Double radio coverage
Double radio coverage is used in order to increase reliability.
5MHz spectrum is recommended for each radio network layer carrying CBTC, so totally 10MHz
is needed, each layer use the same 5MHz for all cells.

Layer A F1 F1 F1 F1

Layer B F2 F2 F2 F2

5.4.2 Wireless Coverage in Tunnels

If the uplink and downlink bandwidth for a single terminal is 200 kbit/s, and a cell covers only one
train and the cells next to this cell covers no train, the cell edge must support a bandwidth of 400
kbit/s in the uplink and downlink.
If the bandwidth is 400 kbit/s in the uplink and downlink, the cell can cover 520 m according to
the parameters listed in the following table.

6.3 Multimedia Dispatching

The dispatch platform is a fast command transfer system that is widely used in manufacturing
and command fields. The system is easy-to-use and achieves real-time allocation of personnel
and resources.

The dispatch platform provides the Graphical User Interface (GUI) for comprehensive
dispatching. Dispatchers can monitor the status of each terminal on the GUI and use voice and
video for communication and dispatching.

The dispatch platform is implemented based on pure IP transmission networks. It provides a

complete set of application programming interfaces (APIs) for secondary development, easily
integrated with other application systems to better satisfy diverse professional requirements. The
dispatch platform comprises a dispatching server and clients. The dispatching clients are also
called dispatching consoles.

The dispatching server is customized server. The dispatching consoles are terminal platforms
installed on laptops, desktops, or workstations where dispatchers work.
The eAPP dispatch platform consists of the Multimedia Dispatching and processing Center
eMDC610, Dispatching Console eDC610, Multimedia Recording and playback Server eMRS610,

6.4 eBBU

The LTE eNodeB uses a distributed architecture to support component sharing to a maximum
extent. The eNodeB consists of two basic functional modules: eBBU(enterprise BaseBand
control Unit) and eRRU. (enterprise Remote Radio Unit). The eBBU and eRRU transmit CPRI
signals via fiber optic cables that connect them through common public radio interface (CPRI)
ports . This kind of architecture satisfies the requirements of setting up enterprise wireless
communication networks .The eBBU is a baseband control unit and provides the following
functions:

Provides physical ports connecting the eNodeB to the eCN for processing related
transmission protocol stacks.

Provides CPRI ports to communicate with the eRRU for processing uplink and downlink
baseband signals.
Manages the entire eNodeB in a centralized manner, including operation and
maintenance(OM) and signaling processing.
Provides an OM channel towards the local maintenance terminal (LMT) or
eOMCProvides clock ports for clock synchronization, alarm monitoring ports for
environment monitoring, and a Universal Serial Bus (USB) port for commissioning the
use of a USB storage device.

6.4.1 eBBU exterior

The eBBU box is 19 inch in width and 2 U in height and can be installed in 19"-width and
2U-height indoor space or an outdoor cabinet providing protection.
The eBBU includes functions boards, such as the LTE main processing transmission unit (LMPT),
LTE baseband processing unit (LBBPc), and universal power and environment interface unit
(UPEUc). The boards support plug and play, which can be configured as required.
The following figure shows the dimensions of the eBBU.

6.4.2 Boards of the eBBU

The eBBU is configured with the following mandatory boards and modules:

LTE main processing and transmission unit (LMPT): Manages the entire E-UTRAN NodeB
(eNodeB) in terms of OM, processes signaling, and provides clock signals for the eBBU.
LTE baseband processing unit (LBBP): Processes baseband signals and CPRI signals.
CNPU (Core network processing unit): Provides fallback mode capability.

XXX XXX Project Huawei Confidential Page 53 of 77
