How Can I Help My Child At Home?

Homework
Homework is an important part of your childs education. It helps reinforce and practice
skills your child learned at school. Please make sure your child is doing his/her
homework every day. Homework assignments are written in your childs agenda every
day. Please look at the agenda and have your child show you the completed homework
assignments.

Reading and Reading Comprehension

Your child should complete his/her reading log every day. During this time, your child
should read something he/she enjoys. Encourage your child to read a variety of books
fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Different types of literature expose your child to a variety
of vocabulary and text structures that will help their reading grow. Additionally, discuss
what your child is reading. Thinking and talking about the book will help your child
comprehend what they are reading.

Ask your child to:

- explain what is happening in the story
- describe the characters to you
- make a prediction about what might happen next
- draw a picture explaining a part of the book

Math
Help your child practice math facts addition and subtraction. Automatic recognition of
math facts is crucial to math success. This year, your child will gain a better
understanding of math operations and move past sorting and counting from last year.
Math practice can happen everyday and anywhere (for example: grocery store counting
applies, doing laundry and counting socks, finding different shapes on the playground)!

Tarea
La tarea es una parte importante en la educacin de su hijo/a. Ayuda a reforzar y
practicar las habilidades que su hijo/a aprende en la escuela. Por favor, asegrese de que
su hijo/a est haciendo su tarea todos los das. Las tareas estn escritas en la agenda de
su hijo/a todos los das. Por favor revise la agenda y que su hijo/a le muestre la tarea
terminada.

hijo/a puede leer algo que a l o ella le gustapuede ser ficcin, no ficcin, o la poesa.
Diferentes tipos de literature que expone a su hijo/a una variedad de vocabulario y
extructuras de texto solo ayudar a sus habilidades de leer. Adems, discutan lo que su
nio/a est leyendo. Pensando y hablando sobre su libro le ayudar a comprender lo que
estn leyendo.

Pregntele a su hijo/a:
- explique lo que sucede en la historia
- describa el personaje a usted
- Haz una prediccin sobre lo que podra suceder a continuacin
- Haz un dibujo que explique una parte del libro

Matemticas
Ayude a su hijo/a en la prctica de las matemticasla suma y la resta. El
reconocimiento automtico de las operaciones es crucial para su xito en matemticas.
Este ao, su hijo/a va a recibir un entendimiento ms desarrollado de las operaciones. La
prctica de la matemticas puede ocurrir en qualquier momento del da (por ejemplo: en
el Mercado contando manzanas, lavando la ropa contando los calcetines, o encontrando
diferentes formas en patio de recreo).
