Appraisal Fair Deemed Huge Success

The annual Tippecanoe Historical Society Appraisal Fair was held
at the American Legion Post 586 on January 21. Fifty people brought
items to be appraised and others came to listen and enjoy.

TAX, ACCOUNTING
Several guns were appraised, with the two highest being $800-
$1,000 each. A Mary Todd Lincoln doll in excellent condition, with
the original shoes, was appraised at $600-$700. An 1852 Covington

- Miami County woven bed cover was estimated to be worth between
$500-$800.
A gentleman brought some ivory pieces. They were in the family
legally, having been handed down from his great-grandfather, the cap-
tain of a whaling ship. Two of the pieces were scrimshaw, carved by
the grandfather, who was eventually killed by a sperm whale. Those
) "& two pieces are worth $1,000 each.
% #'"& There was a wide variety of fun and interesting items. The Society
would like to thank all those who took their time to attend. They
would also like to thank the American Legion for the use of their fa-

The Fort Rowdy Gathering is seeking nominations for Grand Mar-
shal for the 25th Gathering to be held Labor Day Weekend.
Nominees should be Covington area residents who have shown
continuing support of our community, either in public activities or qui-
etly in the background. Nominees may be private citizens, business
leaders, individuals, couples, or groups.
All submissions should include the nominees name and phone
number, why you are nominating them (things they have done or ac-
complished for the community), and your name and phone number in
case more information about the nominee is needed.
