AUTO SELECTION OF ANY AVAILABLE PHASE

IN THREE PHASE SYSTEM

Aim:
To connect the single phase load on to a healthy phase in a three phase supply system.

Introduction:

When a single phase load is connected to a phase which is having a power outage then
the load is automatically switched to another phase by using relays so that the availability of the
single phase from the three phases will be more. This will improve the reliability of the system.
The controller will execute the algorithm and will give the signal to the relay to perform the
transfer operation between two phases.

In this system adc0808 is used to measure all the three phase voltages and the output is
then given to the microcontroller. Controller will acquire all the data and its algorithm will
enable it to observe where the load should be connect. If not then it will give the display of the
faulty phase on the lcd so the maintenance person can easily resolve the problem.

To measure the current we are using current transformers, here 230v/6-0-6 transformer is
used as current transformers and this transformer will give output n the form of voltage depends
upon the load.

Software tools used:

1. Embedded C programming language

2. KEIL IDE for writing the program for micro controller
3. PROLOAD for dumping
4. ORCAD to draw the schematic diagram

Advantages:

1. automatic switching of the load will decrease human errors.

2. Controller will see that the load is balanced at every instant of time.
3. The switching time is less because of which the fault duration on the system is very less.

Applications:

1. Can be used in industries and commercial complexes

2. Can be used near distribution transformers to switch the load between phases
automatically.
