Title: Using Spec Types to assign Tests according to different scenarios
Visible to Customers: Yes
Product: LIMS
Version: 5.0.2, 6.0
Category: Specifications
Topic: When a client logs a Sample (this is coded through Subroutines) the Log Sample function needs
to extract a certain amount of information from the Product Specification (e.g. Specification
Name, Grade, etc). In a Product Specification we have a Daily Grade and a Scheduled Testing
Grade Monthly and when the user logs Samples it will always take the Tests from the Daily
Grade. If a Monthly Test is due another Sample will be logged using the Monthly Grade.

What we want to know is whether it is possible is to have the Monthly Grade Tests added to the Daily so there is only one
Sample required instead of two; using the Log Sample function LIMS only wants to look at one Grade.

Details:
Using the Spec Type is a good option for this purpose. You can set up your Specifications as follows.
1) Only use the Grade value for specifying a Version of the Product that has different Specification. Dont use it to handle
the extended / different testing.
2) Add all the testing scenarios that determine the selection of Tests to the list SPEC_TYPES e.g. Daily, Monthly,
Quarterly, Shift, Production, Composite, etc.
3) At the Stage and Specification Levels, enter all the Tests and Specifications that you have for the Product using the
Spec Type of NONE and in the Stage record set Required = False.
4) Add the Tests required for each Spec Type and set Required = True. You do not need to put any Specifications
against these entries just specify the Analysis at the Stage Level.
5) In the Sample Login Template, set Add Spec Tests = True.
6) When logging the Sample, choose the required Spec Type from the list.

In effect, the Spec Type of NONE is only there to hold all the Specifications; the other Spec Types specify the testing
options.

When you log a Sample, only the required Tests for the Spec Type specified on the Sample will be assigned.

When Results are entered, they will be checked by default against the Spec Type of NONE as well as any against the spe-
cific Spec Type, but none would be set up.
