Proposal to the President

Hello, future president elect Donald J. Trump. My name is Aiden Kjeldsen and there is a

problem I would like to address. Topics such as women's equality, child obesity, and police brutality are

very important; however, the issue of military funding is the most important. Military funding leads to

increased debt, familiy losses, and an increase poor population in the United States. My research led me

to sources such as 60 minutes, U.S.debt counter, and military spending. This problem needs to be

improved to have a healthy and prosperous society.

The United States military is a massive global powerhouse that is a force to be reckoned with.

They protect and serve the United States people with their lives. Our safety is in their hands. But, their

cost is too much. The United states military spends an estimated six hundred billion on their base budget

alone. That is enough money to pay off the United States massive debt in only nine years. The military

budget could get cut in half and the United States would still be the highest payed military, by three

hundred million dollars. Why waste that much wealth?

One could argue that the money is well spent for our safety. I would respond with an example of

their waste with the valuable United States citizens money, with a story from CBS. The afghanistan war

has been a terrible American war. It has cost many lives and a large sum of money. The pentagon spent

forty three million dollars of United States taxpayer money on a gas station. The average gas station cost

about five hundred thousand, which is much cheaper. They built the gas station, then left afghanistan.
They never even used the gas station. That is forty three millions dollars that just disappeared and the

government did not even care or notice. This story demonstrates the pentagon can not be trusted with so

much money because their waste and lack of care. We must stop this wasteful spending.

This massive amount of spending also leads to family losses. With the military being so rich,

with the military being so persuasive, with the military being so smart, they pursued uneducated high

schoolers to sign on the dotted line. After this point, the people are obliged to do whatever the military

wants them to do. They could even get sent to the front lines and die. They could even have the power to

wipe away a whole country, with human lives at stake. This then leads to parents losing their kids to war.

The military should discontinue to operate like this.

One could respond and say that it is free choice and it is ones responsibility is to serve their

country. I would respond to that statement saying the government should fully inform the people they are

persuading. They should give details in full of what they will have the people do. The military recruiters

have been none to oversell the idea and dreams to rise to the top of the military chain of command. When

I was younger, my babysitter's brother wanted to join the military. He said they promised him many great

and fantastic things, so he joined. Once a joyful and happy young man, after his term he changed for the

worse. He said the recruiters stretched the truth on how good the army was. This is what happens to

young men that believe the military and will be recruited and will be disappointed.

The overspending of the government also leads to an increased poor population in the United

States. With more debt taxation rises, his causes the poor people to become poorer because they can't pay

for their basic necessities. They lose their houses, jobs, and morality. No one should have to make the

decision of either putting food on the table or paying their rental fee.
One could argue that the government spending is irrelevant to the poor people. I would respond

saying that with the money they receive, the government could create higher paying jobs for the

population. This would be beneficial for the society. A lower poor population in the United States could

be an achievable goal if the government spends money more wisely.

In conclusion mr. President, these issues must be addressed. This should not just sit as an idea- a

meaningless thought- it should be plan that should be set in action. What good is an idea with no action?

What good is an action with no idea? You mr. President must be the person that brings bold ideas to life.

If we want to continue in the future, you must put an end to the waste of the military. In years to come do

you want to be looked at as a man of many mistakes, or a man of man success.
