Chuck Close - Pulp Paper Making Process at Pace Prints NY

-Shinro O - need a lot more pigment
-Chery Catty - intricate, use non-bleeding paper
Materials - Tubs, toilet paper, warm/hot water, paper dye, blender, ketchup/piping containers,
forks, chopsticks, trays to catch water, frame, window screen
Pulp painting - can also be done with silk screen
1. Make pulp
2. Blend for fineness

PRE-ASSESSMENT:

-Art History (you got to see artists, students can make connections with artists and techniques
(encounters), exposed to multiple way of doing the same thing) *make sure there is A DIRECT
CONNECTIONS WITH THE ENCOUNTERS AND THE ART (summaries of each section),
hands on skills, creating space/illusion with paper, thinking of scale.

Moving into Bookmaking-

TEACHER: have structure (have the materials READY)! Started with the most simple
representation of the art, and then allow them to explore on their own.

Accordian Book/ Pop up books (consider each page as a whole/ create a 3d space
Personalized books (Concertina)/ Mon Chien (My Dog) - Grade 2 (Papers, Covers, Materials,
Needles & Thread)
-the way u attach other pieces of paper becomes part of the esthetic (handmade paper/ found
paper) with glue sticks or thread (Use a needle to make the hole- sewing/or fine drill bit/nail for
the Japanese band style). First fold it in halves, quarters. Accordians allow for use in exploration
and perspective. When working with TAs include TAs in planning, as a student you want to
explore this specific way in art, ask them not to do the work for students, but rather to help or
guide.
