GE Piping supports are desicned accordine to basically the same designing philosophy and strencth calculation as for the general structures, however, some considerations or designs are reguired in respect with m. Matters to be paid attention to the design ng Supports are specified here- under. 2. PURPOSE OF SUPPORT 2.1 Support Sustaining "Load" Supports to be installed to withstand "horizontal forces” induced by piping weight, wind or earthouake, or ‘to protect piping systems from fracture or excessive deflections, shal be sufficiently bearable of these loads. “Deflection” °° These supports are employed for the putpose of ‘restraining! Geflection caused by thermal .éxpansion/contraction in piping systems, and ‘minimizing’ reaction moment applying on nozzles Of connected ecuipment (mostly rotating eouipment). Accord- ingly, deflection in the support shall be sufficiently small with its effect neglectable except where the stifiness of support is included in the analysis of deflection in the pip- ing system. 2.3 Support Preventing "Vibration" «~ This support being installed forthe purpose of prevent vibration in piping systems, stiffness in the piping syste including support shall be raised up not to cenerate reso: nee with the frequency of the vibration source. 3. CONSTRUCTIOI . (i) ection’. shall have "Brace" or "Sta so that as much as load constitutes the ‘axial force'-of the support member as shown below: @ JGG CORPORATION (ay to strengthen the "stiffness" ———————— 346 Vibration preventing supports shall have a construction n the direction where vibra- tion is to be prevented having ‘braces’ or ‘stays’ been rovided. In addition, welded construction shall be applic: a as feasiblly, and means shall be given to prevent loosenning if ‘bolting Connections’ are to be applied. (3) (4) 4. DES: Where 'position adjusting devices' such as by "threads", etc. are to be provided, "Locking devices" shall be given “Spring support" shall have a construction adjustable loads, and be provided with ‘Locking device' also adjustable. IGN LOAD [ep] 7 (a) @) (4) (5) All of simultaneou be considered acting loads of the following s! "self-weight" (‘Full water weioht! in hydrostatic test be considered.) nrust" by. ‘Internal pressure’ and "Spring Reaction" by ‘Bellows’ “Thermal. Expansion/Contrac "Reaction", by ‘Anchor in” in displacement’ - ing system ané “Wind pressure force" and "Seismic force" of earthquake Impact forces” "Thrust" by ‘internal pressure’ of expansion joint shail the "Effective Section area” multiplied by the "Maximum Ozer ating Pressure" (negative pressure also considered). € The effective section area of expansion joint shall be per the value recommended by the make: Where the value ible ‘om maker, the area shall ke based on inside diameter of the joint. 3 ‘maximum The effective area of ‘sleeve joint’ shall be based on the inside diameter’ of connected piping. "Safety Valve Blowing API RP520. ust" shall be in accordance with @ UGG CORPORATION 4/6 (6) For the design of "Anchors" installed in the line of “Off- site" or the like having straight portions, "Friction force" shall be included. The friction force shall be obtained by S nichever the smaller value of those on both sides of the anchor to the difference between these two values. “Priction factors" are as follows: Iron - Iron : 0.3 Teflon - Teflon : O21 Graphite - Graphite : 0.15 fi ERIAL am Cast, ductile or malleable iron shall be used for "static compressive load". (2) Wood or low. conductiveity materials shall be used to sup port compressive load for low temperature pibing. @) Materials to be welded to pipin having no evil effect due to dif g shall have good weldability ference of thermal expansion 6. ALLOWABLE’ STRESS ; 4 e ao Materials directly welded to piping shall have the same ‘Allowable stresses at the desicn temperatures of piping with Consideration of temperature rise due to heat transferred from piping. INTEGRATED SUPPO wm Where lugs, shoes, etc. are welded to piping, the stress in piping shall be checked. Calculation o stress shail be in accordance with BS 1515. (2) Care shall be taken to prevent "fatigue fracture" ing support from thermal stress due to cooling by the ingress of rainwater. (3) For alloy piping, distribution of stresses shail be consi- dered by providing pad. @ UGC CORPORATION ‘ eT eS ite We, 8. SPRING SUPPORT a) Spring support shall be capable of supporting load water filling test. (2) Data of various weights to calculate ‘supporting loads' of such as valves, strainers, etc. shall have an accuracy of +158. 5 (3) “gravel range" shall satisfy the travels of all operating cases (start-up, normal operation, regeneration, decoking, etc.), and sHall include allowances for adjustment of calcu- lation errors in loads (+153 max.) . (4) f-set" at the time of installation shall be calculated based on the operating temperature of piping in normal oper- — ation. 45) Meera Cree eerie rtnacioe isi zoe) ockeresten crs men "variable Load Type", "Constant Load Type" shall be speci fied. (6) _ Supporting load by "Constant Load Type” shall be in the following values @epending on the direction of the 'travel': “pravel Upwaré" + Calculated load x 0.9 "Travel Downward" : Calculated load x 1.1. (7) ° In the case of "Constant Load Type", “locking device” shall be provi ded not to displace exceeding the maxi yum travel. FORCING PAD a Reinforcement "support point" shall be as per the fol- & lowing: . ‘ 2 (a) ‘ Dia./Thick. licen D/e Required D < 20" (500 mm) all None 20" £.p € 40"(1000 mm) D/t < 95 pad or saddle ®) D/t 2 95 Saddle 40" all saddle D = Pipe 0.D., t = Pipe wall thickness (excluding c.2 (b) "Saddle". is to be used for those Support spacing exceeding 12 m. © Jer copporeanon (2) (3) ME PAE ER ee ee ee es Pad plate thickness shall be same as pipe wall thickness not corroded with length 300 mm, and be attached covering 1/3 of the pipe outer circumference. Pad shall be welded all around the circumference and shall have a 3 mm dia. vent hole. The vent hole shall be plugged with sealant. Reinforcing ring shall be attached at saddle as required. Even for piping nominal sizes 20 in. and larger, reinforce- ment shall not be required if non-requirement of pad or sad- @le is confirmed by studying for local stresses. @ JG CORPORATION ©
