The MESA 23 family is based on a uniform hardware and software structure, whose main component train radio device
depending on operating requirements. Accordingly the following building methods are differentiated:

Construction Housing variant Description

Box BSH, BS compact closed housing
Rack RIH, RSH, RI, RS, RSS subrack in 19" system
Cassette BC closed housing in 19" system
Case GTM, GTM+ portable compact closed housing

The universal system architecture of the train radio devices consists of common and standardized interfaces and modules, built
as 19 plug-in cards, which allow a quick and easy exchange of modules and the possibility of using of the modules in all device
variants. The standardized spare parts guarantee a cost-optimized spare part management, a quick and efficient maintenance
and a minor need for training for maintenance staff.

Using optional components in the train radio device and specific additional devices further functions can be added.

2.5 Optional Extention Components

The constructions box and rack have slots, which can be equipped with optional modules. There is one slot for a module used
for serial data communication and one slot for train communication according to UIC 568. The subrack versions RS, RSS and
RSH can be equipped with additional modules for data radio communication.

The following optional modules are available:

IFS module: two serial interfaces RS 422

IFS-A module: one serial interface RS 422 and one reduced interface RS 422 plus 4-wire AF transmission
(e. g. connection FM 2-70 or Port-AR)
UIC module: connection to UIC train transit line
IFT-N module: connection of a data radio application
MRM, MT3, MT5 module: radio module for data radio application

The optional modules can be installed by the factory or afterwards by the customer. If mounted in box versions additional internal
cabling is needed, which provide the interfaces of the modules to the outside.

Additionally for the construction box there is the option to provide the internal interface for digital input and output to the
connector field by use of the CON jumper.

All devices can be extented with the ANE plug-on module for the ANU module. The ANE monitors and filters the link assurance
signal (LAS) of the shunting radio device and signalises his loss 1. In addition, the MTRS 1 BC can be equipped optional with the
ANE or IFLAM plug-in modules. The IFLAM is used for cache to update the system software via the air interface (OTA).

An overview of the optional components and specific additional equipment is in the Appendix 1.

2.6 SIM Card

A plug-in SIM card according to the MORANE document "FFFIS for GSM-R SIM Cards" is required to use the radio. The SIM
card must contain the following entries:

group number 299 for the railway emergency call

Its own phone number (MSISDN).

Otherwise only functions about the UIC train transit line are possible after the system start.

For the radio interface the MRM (manufacturer Sagem), MT3 or MT5 (manufacturer FWK) radio modules are used alternatively.
The radio modules support the following SIM card types:

1
The use of the filtering must be checked by the user against the valid norms.

interface are ignored.

2.8 System Software

The train radio system software is located in several modules of the train radio device and in the operating device. Except for this
partitioning the software is functional divided into application software and system software. While the system software is defined
by the device state of the module the components of the applications software are bundled to a software package and can be
used only as this defined bundle.

The software packages have the following identification properties:

package name and version

identification number with device state.

Identification number and device state are used for product tracing and are structured according the module labelling.

The application software can be updated by the manufacturer or by authorised service personnel using the MST service
program.

2.9 Diagnostic System

The train radio system MESA 23 is permanently supervising its main system components. Therefore the system status is known
at every time. The monitering is done via the following indicators:

1. status displays on the modules of train radio device

LEDs and a segment display are used to display of operating and error states.

2. automatic and manual test runs

Test routines record all fault events in the train radio system. They are stored as diagnostic codes in the diagnostic
memory. Selected diagnostic codes are displayed at the operating device with the entry of the diagnostic event at the same
time.

For fault finding and remedial actions the following test routines are implemented in the train radio system:

automatic self-test during system start

automatic cyclic self-test
manual self-test by the train driver using system menu
manual self-test by the service personnel in service mode

Furthermore events are recorded automatically which are triggered by activities from the service personal, the driver and the
train radio system.

The data in the diagnostic memory can be read and stored with the service program MST.

2.10 Numbering System

Due to the modular design and multifarious hardware and software equipment possibilities, the numbering system is structured
so that the order number is formed from the hardware and software component and has the following structure:

Order number: 4440.xxx-xxxxx MTRS ....

Hardware-component 1561.xxx-xxxxx TC-... (Type variant)

Software-component 4445.xxx-xxxxx CR_... (Software package)

For approval purposes, an approved type is defined for each housing variant, which covers all possible module options per slot.

Hardware changes are registered via the device state (GS). The device state is coupled to the approved type and is transferred
to the type variant derived from this.

Therefore every device has several identification numbers:

1. type number: is the code for the maximally possible equipment of a housing variant.
2. type variant number: is the code for a specific hardware equipment of a housing variant
3. product number: is the code for the hardware and software equipment
4. serial number: is used for unique identification of the delivered device

2.11.3 Battery Labelling

The train radio devices have one or two fixed installed batteries depending on construction which provide for the data memory
retention if the power supply is switched off. The train radio devices are marked with a label from 3rd quarter of 2008. The
battery label indicates the recommended exchange date and is on the front panel of the following components:

CON/IFOT module
CI/EFU module
MTRS 1 BC.

digit of the month

last 2 digits of the year

Figure 10 Battery label

The actual lifetime depends on the ambient temperature and the operating period. Despite a flat battery, the train radio system
remains fully functional, as it merely backs up the RAM memory supply. In the event of a battery failure, the following data is lost:

date/ time display

diagnostic data
individual settings
stored SIM card entries (among other things, causes longer start performance)

The battery's charge is monitored on the module CON/IFOT and in the MTRS 1 BC. An empty battery is
indicated in the display with the diagnosis code FC0F.

In a rugged metal housing is a RF tight subrack, which mounts the 19" modules. These modules are interconnected via a
backplane. A door on the front side, which is equipped in series with two double closure inserts and which covers over the whole
height of the housing, enables free access to the modules.

At the rear of the device are 6 threaded bolt M8x14 for mounting.

The connector panel is placed on the top of the housing. In delivery state the connectors are covered by protective caps. The
cables to external devices are connected to the connector panel, which is connected internally to the appropriate modules.

Compliance with degree of protection IP54 with respect to dust and water is ensured by foamed seals at all openings of the
housing.

A heat exchanger fitted with fans and an internal fan enable effective heat dissipation in high ambient temperatures.

In low ambient temperatures, a temperature controlled heater ensures the necessary ambient temperature of the MRM or MT5 16
transmit / receive module is maintained.

3.3.6 Air Conditioning

The major task of the air conditioning is to move the heat in or out of the box housing depending of the inner air temperature.
The following functions are realised:

temperature monitoring: The inner temperature is constantly measured and evaluated in the controller.
temperature control: The inner temperature is controlled via the speed of the fans and by the heat conduction.
fan monitoring: The monitoring signals of the fans are evaluated in the controller.
fan control: The fans are controlled in two stages depending on the temperature.

The air conditioning is done by the following 3 control circuits:

control circuit for switching on/off the WT-fan (thermostat WT-fan)

control circuit for speed frequency control of the fans (CON/IFOT power pack)
control circuit for switching on/off the heating (thermostat - heating)

The controlled variable of the fan control is the internal device temperature. Two measuring points are provided above the heat
exchanger and one measuring point on the CON/IFOT module. As the difference of the measuring data of the temperature
sensors is less than 1 K, it will be neglected in the following considerations.

The fans operate in two stages. A 12 V DC fan provides for the internal convection, which is located above the subrack. This fan
constantly moves the internal air through the subrack and the heat exchanger. When the internal temperature in the heat
exchanger raises above 45 C, then the speed frequency of the main fan is raised. Simultaneously, the fans (12 V DC) of the
heat exchanger (WT-fan) are switched on, which move the outside air through the heat exchanger and so that increase the heat

exchange. The fans are the heat exchanger are again switched off, if the temperature decreases under 43 C. When the internal
temperature falls below 40 C, then the power of the main fan is reduced.

The heating is located in the internal airstream of the housing at the lower exit of the heat exchanger. At temperatures under 0
C the heating is turned on and the heat is transported into the device.

The function of the fans are monitored and controlled by the CON/IFOT module. The monitoring signals of the fans are evaluated
in the controller. Failure of a fan is registered in the fault memory and is displayed at the operating device. A control signal
generated by the controller is apply for the controlling of the fans. The FMONI printed board is used for galvanic isolation
between CON/IFOT and the power pack or the fans.

3.3.7 Function Principle

The devices include the digital and analog19 transmission and receiver module, the control, the interface modules, the air
conditioning and the power supply. The CON/IFOT module forms the central control unit. It controls the radio connection of the
MRM or MT520, manages the priorities of calls, controls the MMIs, the modules for analog train radio19, additional data
applications and the interface modules. The data communication with the CI/EFU 19, ANU and the interface modules UIC and
IFS / IFS-A modules takes place via the IC bus. The CI/EFU and MTR450 modules are responsible for analog train radio 19. The
MTR450 is the analog transmission and receiving module, all the while in the CI/EFU module takes place the control of the
MTR450, the analog radio specific evaluations and the communication to CON, ANU and UIC.

The input voltage is passed via a terminal block, which is located on the bottom of the housing, directly to the heater and input
terminal of the PLF module. The PLF provides the filtered and interference-suppressed input voltage on the one hand via the
backplane to the PS modules for the train radio application and on the other hand via two wires on the PLF output terminal to the
wide-range power unit for the fans. The PS modules provide the internal supply voltages for the CI/EFU 19, MTR450Fehler! Textmarke
nicht definiert., MRM or MT520, CON/IFOT, ANU, UIC, and IFS / IFS-A modules via the backplane.

The entire information exchange between the modules within the device is carried out via the backplane.

3.7.4 Function Principle

The MTRS 1 BC is the main component of a digital train radio system. It consists of the digital transmit and receive device, the
controls and the interface modules for external devices and the power supply.

The CON-BC printed board forms the control unit. It controls the MRM / MT3 / MT5 radio link, regulates the priority of the calls,
controls the operating devices, the additional data applications and the interface modules. Data communication with the ANU-
BC, UIC-BC and IFS-C-BC printed boards takes place via the IC-Bus.

The PS-BC printed board filters the input voltage 24 V and provides the internal operating voltages 24 V, 12 V and 5 V. The
complete galvanic insulation and the safety extra-low voltage (SELV) must be secured by the upstream DC-DC converter.

4.4.4 Function Principle

The CI printed board has the task to realise the functions of the analog train radio. Data which are available at the interfaces are
evaluated and functionally defined actions are triggered. The CI itself produces data which control the operating device and
which can create new states within the train radio system. It contains the following functional units:

Controller
Program- and data memory (Flash, SRAM)
Interface circuits (I2C, SBUS, SCC, RS422, RS232)
Monitoring circuit (power fail, watchdog)
Module socket (EFU).

The program memory contains of a working memory of 256 kByte (Flash-ROM) and a boot loader with 32 kByte. It is located in a
memory circuit Flash In-System-Programmable Microcontroller Peripheral. In addition to the program memory an address
decoder (2 kByte SRAM), 4 I/O ports and a JTAG interface (according to IEEE 1149.1) are integrated. The PSD can be complete
programmed in-system through the JTAG interface.

An IC bus is used as interface to the environment with each 2 independent working RS232 and RS422 interfaces. Furthermore
the CI is equipped with an TTL bus with whom a series of input and output latches is realized. A watchdog monitors the
controllers functionality. It buffers the data memory.

The pc board EFU is responsible for signal generation and processing in the audio field of the analogue train radio. It produces
control tones which are evaluated and filtered, produces and evaluates FSK telegrams, conducts a pre-emphasis or de-
emphasis during certain operational modes and provides the signal processing routines for CTCSS signalling in special
applications. The EFU contains the following functional units:

Digital signal processor (DSP)

Digital/analogue signal converter (AIC)
Host Port Interface (HPI)

The EFU is connected to the CI printed board by two 48-pin connectors, via which the EFU is supplied with both analog and
digital signals and the audio inputs and outputs are realised. All audio inputs and outputs are symmetrical and are installed with
electrical isolation. Up to three audio channels can be operated simultaneously. The AIC separate the frequency components
above 3600 Hz from the incoming audio signals and convert these into digital signals. Following the necessary signal processing
in the DSP they are converted back into analog signals in the AIC and are also bandwidth-limited to 3600 Hz. Depending on the
set operating mode, control tones of analog train radio are generated and the reception of the tones is signalled to the controller.
Further, the control tones are filtered out of the speech band. Further routines are intended for the generation and evaluation of
FSK telegrams and CTCSS tones. A CPLD is used to realise necessary logic operations and can be programmed "in-system" via
a JTAG interface. An HPI is available on the CI as an interface with the controller.

4.5.6 Function Principle

The pc board CON represents the core processing unit of train radio devices. A 16 bit controller controls the other modules via
the internal IC bus and directly via I/O lines. The program memory is located in a flash ROM module of up to 12 Mbyte. It is
possible to update the application software via the service and diagnosis interface of the module CON/IFOT or via the service
and diagnose interface of a connected MMI. 512 kbyte RAM is available as the working memory. In case of power interruptions,
the memory is saved by a lithium battery. This ensures that no loss of specific data occurs if the operating voltage is switched off
and the last settings can be displayed when the train radio is switched on. An RTC also equipped with a back-up battery,
provides the system clock time. A watchdog is responsible for monitoring the operating voltage and correct program execution.
In case of errors the watchdog triggers a RESET signal. Parts of the Flash ROM module can be used as non-volatile data
storage for the diagnostic or software download. A temperature sensor enables the CON printed board to measure the
temperature of the air surrounding the printed circuit boards. Configuration data can be stored in an 8 kbyte EEPROM controlled
via the internal IC bus. The CON printed board provides 4 digital outputs (isolated via optocouplers), 3 digital inputs (isolated via
optocouplers) and a RESET input. The service and diagnosis interface of the CON/IFOT module can be directly connected with
the maintenance interface of MRM or connected with the controller of the CON printed board. For switching the pin 9 of this
interface is to be used.

4.8.5 Function Principle

The data and control lines for the data radio interface are transformed from TTL level to RS422/RS232 level and galvanic
insulated at the MRM side. The IFT-N does not have influence on the logical values of the lines. On the lines the following bit
rates are possible:

TxD and RxD: max. 115.2 kBit/s

cycle times with control lines: min. 0.1 ms

Additionally the DTR line is controlled by the IFT-N. When the DTR is inactive longer than 2 s 0.2 s a reset of the MRM by the
IFT-N module is realized. Inactivity times of the DTR signal <1.8 s do not trigger to a RESET.

The signals TxD and RxD of the MRM maintenance interface are transformed from TTL level to RS232 level and will be provided
at the SERVICE interface for service and maintenance activities, together with the download signal (Input TTL with internal Pull-
Up).

4.12.5 Function Principle

The MTR 450 is a duplex, semi-duplex and simplex FM radio device which can be programmed with software. It works in the
frequency range of 450 MHz in accordance with UIC 751-3. It consists of the following functional unit s:

Transmitter
The transmitter consists of the output stage for the transmitting power including its frequency processing, and performance
and temperature monitoring. In addition there is an integrated switch between transmitter and receiver for simplex
operations.

Receiver
The duplex receiver is adjusted to the frequency with the highest field strength by comparing the frequencies f r, fr
= +50 kHz and fr = 50 kHz. While the duplex receiver receives a channel of the set quadruple in accordance with UIC 751-
3, the scan receiver constantly checks the quality of the other channels. The simplex receiver works self-sufficiently in the
same band width as the transmitter.

Controller
The control card controls the transmitter and the receivers according to the requirements of the main control system and
transmits status information of the above parts. The circuits on the control card can become in six functional blocks divides:
Microcomputer and its periphery circuits
controlcircuits of transmitter and the receivers
circuits in modulation- and audiopath

The following functions are provided:

Mandatory announcements from the train radio device to the trains public address system:
By a rectifier circuit it is detected on the lines 7 and 8 wether the obligatory public announcement is already occupied. If the
PA announcement is possible, the signal voltage combination "obligation announcement" (per 24 V) is applied at the
control lines 5 - 8. An electronic fuse (protection) prevents that external short circuits on these control lines endanger the
function of the train radio system. This fuse (protection) is resettable. After the connecting of signal voltages the AF coming
from the ANU module is put on the wires 1 and 2.

Telephone services between train radio device and intercom station on the train:
The call request and the requested target of the telephone service are recognized by another rectifier circuit on the wires 3
and 4.

5.7 Mechanical Design

The operating device MMIS consists of the following components:

keyboard module
metal housing
display module
IR printed board IRI
Controller printed board OTCO
Interface printed board OTIF

The keyboard module consists of a fully backlit membrane keyboard with shielding layer, a laminated glass pane non-reflected
on both sides for covering the display and a bezel with integrated protection against operation error of the emergency key. The
data entry is realised by 23 membrane keys with pressure point, which are divided in 9 hardkeys and 14 softkeys. The base
colour of the keyboard is black. Except the red symbol of the emergency key, the keys have white coloured symbols or
designations. The brightness sensor, the infrared interface and the activity display of the emergency call are also integrated in
the front membrane and are hardly visible. At the both outer edges of the bezel are each 2 loss-proof mounting bolts
M5 Torx T25.

The metal housing is half open and complements in the installed condition together with the keyboard unit the operating device
to a closed unit. The heat sink which is attached on the rear is used for heat dissipation of the modules. On the rear side of the
housing all cable connectors are located.

The display module consists of a full graphic monochrome LC-display with non-reflective glass and a printed circuit board with
control electronics, interface and brightness sensor. The background lighting is realized by LEDs. The LCD-technology FFSTN
guarantees a high-contrast representation of dark signs on light background and of light signs on dark background.

The IRI is fixed like the display module at the keyboard module. On this module the activity signal for the emergency call and the
service interface up to GS 06 are intergrated.

The OTIF is tightly mounted at the rear of the housing. It includes the wired interfaces and the DC-DC converter for the power
supply of the MMIS.

The OTCO is fixed with distance bolts on the OTIF. It includes a 16-Bit core P-computer and the necessary AF amplifier-and
switching components for the AF and a flash-module for the storage of the user-software. The OTIF and OTCO printed boards
are direct connected via a plug, whereas the keyboard, the display, the brightness-sensor and the service-interface are
connected over flexible lines with the OTCO.

5.9.7 Brightness sensor

The brightness sensor is used for the automatic control of the background lighting of the keys and the display, if not controlled by
bus systems. The regulation of the base brightness depends on the ambient illumination and is configurable independently of
each other.

5.9.8 Service interface

Operating devices from GS 07 have not this interface.

IMPORTANT

The service-interface is a interface for the wireless data transfer with infrared light, whose hardware meet the IrDA-standard. The
maximum data rate is 115.2 kBit/s.

Page 116 Version 4.1

Description Train Radio Systems MESA 23 Description of the Operating Device
1561.001.10001.B.EN.4

5.10 Function Principle

The operating device is the audio-visual interface between the operator and the mobile train radio system.

The data between operating device and train radio device are exchanged time cyclically as well as event-driven. The data
exchange is protected by protocol. The received data from the train radio device are analysed from the operating device and
shown on the display optionally with an acoustic signal. The operating device can take over data from the rail vehicle
infrastructure and transfers this like the input commands to the train radio device.

The operating device contains a reset-function, which releases a new start at the train radio system. By activating the Reset key
longer than 5 sec a trigger signal is generated which is transfered to the train radio device and triggers a hardware reset of the
CON controller.

5.11 General Operating Functions

After switching on the supply voltage the train radio system automatically starts with a self-test. After the successful self-test the
basic menu of the last used radio system appears.

The keyboard consists of 9 hardkeys and 14 softkeys. The following functions are realised by the hard keys:

emergency call
call to secondary controller
call to the conductor
call to train public address
train to train call
reset of the train radio system
direction key up
direction key down
enter button

All other operating functions will be activated with softkeys. The functional allocation of the softkeys is given by the direct and
adjacent area of the displays and depends on current menu level of the radio system.

A fixed functional allocation at the same softkeys in the menu levels and an optimal display size allow an easy handling of all
operating activities by the driver during the drive.

The brightness of the display and the change for day or night operation are adjustable with the relevant hardkeys. Additionally
the loudness for the loudspeaker and the handset can be controlled via these hardkeys. These settings are possible during a
connection.

Error conditions or requests are highlighted by flashing of the respective pictograms or letterings and optionally signalled
acoustically via loudspeaker.
