The COC 1 consists of competencies that a person must achieve in assembling the computer
hardware, installing the operating system, installing the application software and device drivers.
A person who has achieved this Unit/Cluster of competencies is competent to Install and configure
computer systems and shall be awarded the Certificate of Competency leading to Computer Systems
Servicing NC II. The Units of Competency comprising this Cluster include the following:

TRAINING DELIVERY
The delivery of training should adhere to the design of the curriculum. Delivery should be guided by
the principles of competency-based training.
a) Course outline is based on competency standards/training regulations;
b) Training delivery is learner-centered and should accommodate individualized and self-
paced learning strategies;
c) Training can be done on an actual workplace setting or on a simulated workplace;
d) Assessment is based in the collection of evidence of the performance of work;
e) Assessment of competency takes the trainees knowledge and attitude into account but
requires evidence of actual performance of the competency as the primary source of
evidence;
f) Training program allows for recognition of prior learning (RPL) or current competencies;
and
g) Training completion is based on satisfactory performance of all specified competencies
indicated in the progress chart.

TRAINING FACILITIES
The Computer Systems Service Workshop must be in an infrastructure facility that is generally
accepted to industry standards and practice. Based on class size of minimum of 25
student/trainees the space requirements for the teaching/ learning and circulation areas are as

TRAINERS QUALIFICATION
Trainers shall be required to be certified to the National Certificate for which qualification
they will train. TESDA shall provide an online training on Plan Training Session and
Facilitate Learning Sessions to the potential trainers. 1
Minimum requirements:
Holder of a National Certificate in the Qualification s/he will teach; and
Has completed the following units of Trainers Methodology Level I:
1. Prior to competency assessment for COC1, please accomplish the Self-Assessment Guide
(SAG) to determine readiness for assessment
2. Submit accomplished SAG to POLO staff in- charge for advice

UNIT OF COMPETENCY: INSTALL AND CONFIGURE COMPUTER SYSTEMS
MODULE DESCRIPTOR : This module covers the outcomes required in installing and
configuring desktop and workstation computers systems. It consists of
competencies to assemble computer hardware, install operating
system and drivers for peripherals/devices, and install application
software as well as to conduct testing and documentation.

LO1. ASSEMBLE COMPUTER HARDWARE
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
1. Unit assembly is planned and prepared to ensure OH&S policies and procedures are
followed in accordance with systems requirements
2. Materials necessary to complete the work are identified and obtained in accordance with
established procedures and checked against systems requirements
3. Tools, equipment and testing devices needed to carry out the installation work are
obtained in accordance with established procedures and checked for correct operation
and safety
4. Computer hardware is assembled in accordance with established procedures and systems
requirements
5. Basic-input-output-system (BIOS) configuration is performed in accordance with hardware
requirements.
