GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

a. See next page for the copy of the template/format of the laboratory report.
b. Answers to questions and solution to problem part is not included in the lab report.
c. Text should be typed single-spaced on one side of the paper only. Do not exceed the
dimensions given in this format. Insert one return between paragraphs. The main body text
should be typed justified with indents.

d. The length of laboratory report is limited to maximum of 4 pages.

e. Equations will be centered with a number flush against the right margin as in equation
(1):
Xm
c
X t m
(1)
The above equation would be denoted as "equation (1)" wherever it is referred to.

f. Samples of a table are shown in Table 1. Figures and tables should appear in numerical order,
be described in the body of the text and be positioned close to where they are first cited.
These figure and table would be denoted as "Figure 1" and "Table 1".

Introduction
All paragraphs are indented and justified [12pt Times New Roman]. Please keep your lab
report to be no more than three pages (title page and data sheet not included) with figures, tables
and references.
Introduction section should clearly state the background, principles and the objectives of
the experiment.

Materials and Methods

Please give a brief description of the materials and methods used in the experiment.
Attach at least 4 photos relevant to the experiment. Include action photos of your group
performing the experiment. A photo of the apparatus is almost always necessary. You must add
label/brief description below each photo.

Results and Discussion

Provide a summary and discussion of results to support the conclusions.
Table 1 This is a style for Table Titles. Table 1, 2, etc. should be in bold. Table captions
should appear above tables.
Figure 1 This is a style for Figure legends. Figure 1, 2, etc. should be in bold. Figure
legends should appear below figures.

Conclusions
Present the conclusions you draw from the results. Be sure that your conclusion reflects
the purpose of the experiment. All conclusions should be clearly stated and supported with
evidence. Cite specific results and observations from the experiment and tie them to your
conclusions.

You should indicate whether your measurements and/or calculated values make sense. Do
they fall within the expected range? In case the data or results appear to be outside a reasonable
range, point out what possible problems might have occurred. When appropriate, recommend
ways to correct problems and improve the experiment. When analyzing sources of uncertainty
and/or error, be specific and avoid using vague phrases such as "human error."
