Hamilton, Ontario: It was on April 20, 2010 that
the wolrd learned about the explosion and fire
on Transoceans Limited’s drilling rig Deep
Horizon which was licensed to BP where 11
workers were killed. The rig was drilling in
BP’s Macondo project 42 miles southeast of
Venice, Louisiana, beneath 5,000 feet of water
and 13,000 feet under the seabed.

sank an a 5-mile oil slick started to form.
On April 29, President Obama pledged
“every single available resource," including the
U.S. military, to contain the spreading spill and
says BP is responsible for the clean-up.
It is now June 28, 69 days since the fire
and explosion on the Deep Horizon and still
thousands and thousands of barrels of oil and
other pollutants are spewing into the Gulf of
Mexico.
Now, the formation of a hurricane in the
Gulf is threatening the cleanup operations.
The tropical storm plowing across the
far side of the Gulf of Mexico could send oil
skimmers back to port and make containment
booms useless, even from some 500 miles away.
But the rough weather also might give nature a
hand in breaking down crude from the massive
oil spill.
Forecasters expect Alex to grow to
hurricane strength later today, June 28, over the
southwestern Gulf on track for the Texas-
Mexico border region and away from the oil
spill area off Louisiana. But it will blow waves
and stormy winds all the way to the open Gulf,
where BP PLC is working to cap and contain the
oil, and the coastal waters tinged with crude.
Even though BP has agreed to set up a
$20 billion fund for damage claims from the

spill, suspends dividend payments to
shareholders and says it will pay $100 million to
workers idled by the six-month moratorium on
deep-sea drilling.
There are experts who are now
forecasting that the BP oil spill may very well
last until December, while others are painting a
very grim and horrifying picture that the oil spill
in Gulf of Mexico could cause ‘dead zone’,
further hitting sea life.
High concentrations of methane gas - in
some cases approaching 1m times the normal
level - have been found around the BP oil spill,
raising fears it could create an oxygen-depleted
“dead zone” where marine life cannot survive.
Dead zones are areas in the water where
algae blooms as it feeds on nutrients in high
concentrations of foreign matter, such as
methane, in this case, or, more typically, the
components of farmland fertiliser runoff into
the water. The algae gorge, reproduce quickly
and then, in turn, are eaten by bacteria in a
process that depletes the immediate area of
oxygen. Fish and other sea life cannot survive in
these zones, leading scientists to call them
“dead”.
That the spill could cause a dead zone in
the Gulf would be yet another negative for the
environment, already suffering from the

destruction of marine nurseries and bird nesting
grounds in the wetlands and projections of
negative impacts on sea life along the Gulf
Coast. The knock-on effect would be a pocket
of the Gulf where fishermen would find no fish
or other sea creatures to harvest.
The site where large concentrations of
methane has been found is in a six-mile radius
around the spill, where John Kessler, assistant
professor in the Department of Oceanography at
Texas A&M University, has just returned from a
10-day research trip.
From a previous trip last year to the
same area, he has identified the rise in methane
to the Deepwater Horizon accident. Methane is
a key component of natural gas, such as ethane
and propane, and it accounts for 40 per cent of
the weight of material emanating from BP’s
leaking well.
Last year the concentrations of these
gases were at normal levels of one to two parts
per million. This year, the concentration of
methane dissolved in the seawater is 100,000
times more and, in some places, approaching
1m times more, he said.
While methane may be toxic to various
marine organisms, one of the focuses of
Kessler’s research is investigating if the high
concentration of methane could lead to a
feeding frenzy by marine microorganizations
that feed on this hydrocarbon, depleting the
oxygen in the area and creating a dead zone.
“There are some drawdowns in
oxygen,” Kessler said. “It’s significant; we
notice it. It’s there.”
But whether it will increase enough to
cause a dead zone remains to be seen, he said,
with significant factors being how high the
concentrations of methane will get and how
long they will remain at these enhanced levels.
With BP siphoning increasing amounts
of hydrocarbons to the surface, there are hopes
the amount gushing into the Gulf is on a decline.
That said, the leak is expected to continue until
the UK company can complete at least one of
the two relief wells it is drilling to intersect the
leaking well and plug it up. BP is hoping that
will be in late July or August.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration, the US Environmental
Protection Agency and the White House Office
of Science and Technology Policy said in its
first peer reviewed, analytical summary report
about subsea monitoring that “dissolved oxygen
levels remained above immediate levels of
concern.” But it added, “There is a need to
monitor dissolved oxygen levels over time.”
The Gulf of Mexico already is home to
one of the world’s biggest dead zones -
averaging about 17,000 square kilometres, the
size of Lake Ontario, over the past five years,
according to the Louisiana Universities Marine
Consortium.
But researchers do not know if the site
of the spill - more than 100 miles from shore -
will link up with the one they have been
watching over the years. That long-studied dead
zone is close to shore, in shallower water, where
the Mississippi River drains, over-enriching the
waters with nutrients that lead to an abundance
of algae that consumes all the oxygen in the
water so that it can no longer support marine

Biologists find 'dead zones'
around BP oil spill in Gulf
Methane at 100,000 times

oxygen-depleted areas devoid of
life near BP's Deepwater
Horizon spill, according to two
independent scientists

Scientists are confronting growing evidence
that BP's ruptured well in the Gulf of Mexico is
creating oxygen-depleted "dead zones" where
fish and other marine life cannot survive.
In two separate research voyages,
independent scientists have detected what were
described as "astonishingly high" levels of
methane, or natural gas, bubbling from the well
site, setting off a chain of reactions that suck the
oxygen out of the water. In some cases, methane
concentrations are 100,000 times normal levels.
Other scientists as well as sport
fishermen are reporting unusual movements of
fish, shrimp, crab and other marine life,
including increased shark sightings closer to the
Alabama coast.
Larry Crowder, a marine biologist at
Duke University, said there were already signs
that fish were being driven from their habitat.
"The animals are already voting with
their fins to get away from where the oil spill is
and where potentially there is oxygen
depletion," he said. "When you begin to see
animals changing their distribution that is
telling you about the quality of water further
offshore. Basically, the fish are moving closer
to shore to try to get to better water."
Such sightings – and an accumulation of
data from the site of the ruptured well and from
the ocean depths miles away – have deepened
concerns that the enormity of the environmental
disaster in the Gulf has yet to be fully
understood. It could also jeopardise the Gulf's
billion-dollar fishing and shrimping industry.
In a conference call with reporters,
Samantha Joye, a scientist at the University of
Georgia who has been studying the effects of
the spill at depth, said the ruptured well was
producing up to 50% as much methane and
other gases as oil.
The finding presents a new challenge to
scientists who so far have been focused on
studying the effects on the Gulf of crude oil,
and the 5.7m litres of chemical dispersants used
to break up the slick.
Joye said her preliminary findings
suggested the high volume of methane coming
out of the well could upset the ocean food
chain. Such high concentrations, it is feared,
would trigger the growth of microbes, which
break up the methane, but also gobble up
oxygen needed by marine life to survive,
driving out other living things.
Joye said the methane was settling in a 200-
metre layer of the water column, between

depths of 1,000 to 1,300 metres in
concentrations that were already threatening
oxygen levels.
"That water can go completely anoxic
[extremely low oxygen] and that is a pretty
serious situation for any oxygen-requiring
organism. We haven't seen zero-oxygen water
but there is certainly enough gas in the water to
draw oxygen down to zero," she said.
"It could wreak havoc with those
communities that require oxygen," Joye said,
wiping out plankton and other organisms at the
bottom of the food chain.
A Texas A&M University
oceanographer issued a similar warning last
week on his return from a 10-day research
voyage in the Gulf. John Kessler recorded
"astonishingly high" methane levels in surface
and deep water within a five-mile radius of the
ruptured well. His team also recorded 30%
depletion of oxygen in some locations.
Even without the gusher, the Gulf was
afflicted by 6,000 to 7,000 square miles of dead
zone at the mouth of the Mississippi river,
caused by run-off from animal waste and farm
fertiliser.
The run-off sets off a chain reaction.
Algae bloom and quickly die, and are eaten up
by microbes that also consume oxygen needed
by marine life.
But the huge quantities of methane, or
natural gas, being released from the well in
addition to crude presents an entirely new
danger to marine life and to the Gulf's lucrative
fishing and shrimping industry.
"Things are changing, and what impacts
there are on the food web are not going to be
clear until we go out and measure that," said
Joye.[]

Gulf of Mexico (Jul 3) – Field-level staff of the
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service along with the
National Oceanic Atmosphere Administration
have been documenting dead and injured
wildlife and marine life as a result of the
Deepwater Horizon Disaster. BP will never be
able to recover the loss of this life.
Part of the responsibilities of the
collection and rescue efforts are to determine
the exact cause of death or injury. Some of the
wildlife and fish recovered may have died from
natural causes. The increased numbers of
recovered wildlife is due to the numbers of well
trained members of the rescue team.
Once team members locate, collect, or
capture fish and wildlife the injured and dead
are labeled with indentifying numbers to aid in
the evaluation process. The rescued are given an
initial examination to determine the extent of
their injuries. The collected are checked for
broken bones, external oil, or other injuries.
Once returned to the shelters, the collected are
given a thorough examination to determine
whether they have ingested any of the oil from
the Deepwater Horizon gusher. The eyes, throat,
and mouth are checked for oil damage as well.
In case of the deceased, a full or partial
necropsy is ordered to help determine the exact
cause of death. A necropsy is an autopsy
performed on animals.
To date a total of 2,239 birds have been
collected, 922 oiled and 1317 found dead. Of
those found dead 392 were found covered with
oil. Those that have been collected alive, 408
have been released back into the wild in the
marshes around Titusville, Florida.
Five hundred ninety-four sea turtles
have been located, 441 of those found dead. Of
the remaining sea turtles, only three have been
released back into safe sanctuary.
Of the total mammals collected, 52
found dead, five found alive and only one has
been released back to safe sanctuary.
Other reptiles located, only one captured
alive and remains at the rescue facility for
further evaluation and treatment.
Although, rehabilitation centers have
been established in and around the Gulf States,
BP will never be able to compensate for those
that have lost their lives due to the carelessness
and unsafe practices of deepwater oil drilling
and exploration.
The environmental impact of this
disaster is here to stay for decades. It is time to
put an end to this type of oil drilling and begin
a serious effort to turn to alternative energy
resources for the sake of this planets future.
Currently, congressional committees
have been examining the cause and effect of this
disaster and the future of offshore oil
exploration to which, for the sake of those that
live in harmony with nature, an end to this
dangerous method of energy collection will be
halted, at least here in the United States.[]

to be protected from 'burn
boxes'
BP has agreed to allow wildlife
rescuers to pluck rare sea turtles
– including endangered Kemp's
Ridley turtles – out of Gulf oil
spill 'burn boxes.'

BP and the US Coast Guard have agreed to
allow wildlife rescuers to pluck sea turtles out
of corralled oil patches to keep them from being
incinerated alive, thus ending one of the most
dramatic – and tragic – consequences of the
Gulf oil spill.
In return, wildlife organizations that
brought a lawsuit last week in New Orleans
federal court agreed to remove a request for an
injunction to completely ban the burns, which
have become a critical method for BP and the
Coast Guard to neutralize the oil slick and keep
more oil from washing ashore on the Gulf,
where it threatens hundreds of other species
from crabs to pelicans.
“Finally, I can sleep again knowing the
sea turtles are not being burned alive,'' said
Carole Allen, Gulf Director of Turtle Island
Restoration Network in Houston, Texas, in a
statement.
It's not known how many turtles have
died in hundreds of controlled oil burns far out
at sea. Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen has said
there's no evidence of such incinerations. But a
shrimp boat captain reported he had been
ordered away from areas where he had seen
snared turtles. In deep water, animal and fish
carcasses quickly sink, researchers say.
The wildlife toll so far pales in
comparison with that of the Exxon Valdez,
where at least 35,000 sea birds died. In the Gulf
oil spill, that number is only about 1,000 –
primarily because the spill is 50 miles from
shore and a mile deep.
Nevertheless, the turtle story added to
public anger against BP, which has taken
responsibility for the April 20 Deepwater
Horizon accident that caused the largest Gulf of
Mexico spill ever. In an online petition, more
than 150,000 people demanded that the
company stop the burns in order to save the
turtles. At least 275 burns over a 500 square
mile area have taken place since the spill began,
removing some 238,000 barrels (10 million
gallons) of oil from the surface.
Shrimp boat captain Michael Ellis first
reported the turtle incinerations in a video.
"They drag a boom between two shrimp boats
and whatever gets caught between the two
boats, they circle it up and catch it on fire. Once
the turtles are in there, they can’t get out," Mr.
Ellis said.
Texas A&M Gulf researcher Thomas
Shirley confirmed the "burn box" deaths in an
interview with the Monitor, adding that
hundreds of dead turtles and other sea life
already found in and around the spill represent
but "a tiny fraction of what the actual damage
is."
"One tragedy is that juvenile turtles and
other animals head toward the oil instead of
away from it," says Mr. Shirley. "To them it
looks like habitat. They have no pre-adaptations
to know what it is."
Juvenile turtles especially follow
floating masses of seaweed called sargassum
across the open Gulf. Those sargassum, when
oil-soaked, are corralled by fire-proof booms as
part of the burn process.
The burns have been controversial from
the beginning. Despite air quality concerns,
officials say they're one of the most effective
ways available to rid the Gulf of the growing
slick of oil, and a key part of an unprecedented
effort to contain the spill and stop broader
ecological damage.
No controlled burns will take place until
at least Tuesday because of bad weather in the
Gulf. As part of the agreement, BP said it will
allow wildlife biologists onboard clean-up
vessels to spot and remove ensnared turtles.[]

the news lately about the oil spill that took place
in the Gulf of Mexico. Chances are that your
children have heard about it as well. This is the
perfect time for you to teach your children about
the importance of taking care of their
environment. Most kids that hear about the BP
oil spill are concerned about this problem.
Instead of just allowing them to stand by and
hear the bad news all the time, maybe it is time
that you allow your kids to get involved. Sure, it
is important that they learn as much as possible
about this disaster, but giving kids a chance to
do something about this problem teaches them
about helping in a crisis as well as empowers
them to feel that there is something that they are
able to do to help out.
The great news is that even if you don't
even live near the areas that have been affected
by this BP oil spill, you still can help out. You
don't have to be right there to take measures to
help. Recent news reports are telling us that this
spill is covering miles and the cost of cleanup
will be in the billions. Still, there are small
things that you and your kids can do to make a
difference. When many parents and kids start
helping, it will make a huge difference in the
way this oil spill gets cleaned up.
Collect Items for the Suncoast Seabird
Sanctuary
You will find that the Suncoast Seabird
Sanctuary, which is in Indian Shores, is in need
of some items. They need more cash than they
do volunteers at this point, and there are some
particular items that they need. You may want to
encourage your kids to work on collecting items
that are needed by this sanctuary. Perhaps
organize a local drive at school or in your
neighborhood to collect items need. Some of the
items that Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary needs
include paper towels, bottled water,
toothbrushes, Gatorade, moving boxes, bleach,
gas gift cards, shovels, trash bags that are heavy
duty, and kennels of all sizes. You can find out

Donate to the National Audubon Society
Another group that is working to help cleanup
the spill, especially focusing on helping birds
that are victims of this spill, is the National
Audubon Society. They are not only help to
clean up, but trying to preserve habitats that
have been affected too. Kids and adults can help
volunteer with this society by filling out their
volunteer forms for more information. Even if
you are too far away to volunteer, you can
always help by donating. Maybe hold a bake
sale or have your kids pool their allowances
together to make a dontation to the Audubon
society to help out, which you can do by going
to their website at http://www.audubon.org.
Pet and Human Hair
Helping out with the oil spill that
occurred in the Gulf may be as simple as
donating some hair. When you groom your pet,
save all that hair that you get. It can be used to
help clean up the oil spill. Both pet hair and
human hair can be used to help keep the spills
contained. The way it works is that hair from
dogs and humans will be combined together,
then put into nylons, which makes booms that
are very absorbent so the spill can be contained.
Check with pet salons and hair salons in your
area, since they may be sending hair to the area

Volunteering Opportunities
There are many volunteering
opportunities out there, especially if you live
near areas that are being affected by the BP oil
spill. For those in Florida, there are many
volunteer opportunities available and events
that will require volunteers in this cleanup
effort. VolunteerFlorida.org is the place to go to
find out about local opportunities. Many other
organizations can use volunteers as well, so if
you live in the area, check with local
organizations to find out if there is a way that
you and your kids can volunteer to help out with
this crisis.
Fundraising
Another idea is start a
fundraising effort. Have your kids contact their
friends, and work with other parents, or your
local schools, churches and organizations.
The great thing is that a difference can
be made if everyone works together to clean up
this oil spill. It is a huge disaster and is
threatening more of the Gulf and may spread
further to affect even more areas. If there was
ever a time to work together, it is definitely now.
Sure, the government is doing some work on
this spill and BP has people working on the
cleanup effort, but this is a big disaster that will
take a lot of work and money to cleanup. Instead
of sitting around hearing the gloomy news
reports on the spill in the Gulf, why not take
action. Let your kids learn more about taking
action and helping when there is a problem.
With all of these opportunities to help, you can
get your kids involved, and when everyone is
working together, a huge difference can be
made.

Save the Gulf

As you all are aware of, the oil spill in
the Gulf is devistating (sic). My mom has
already donated a lot of money to help, but I
have an idea that may also help. I am a decent
drawer, and I was wondering if I could sell
some bird paintings and give the profits to your
organization.
My mom is in touch with an art gallery where I
live. She is going to sell them there. I also am
hoping to go to Cornell in the future. I want to

become an ornithologist. I know a few species
of birds. I also acknowledge that this is breeding
time for plovers, terns, etc.
I will do all in my strength to earn money.

Olivia Bouler, 11 years old and willing
to help
So began Olivia’s "Save the Gulf"
campaign. The fifth grader from Islip, N.Y.,
loves birds and the gulf region, where her
grandparents live. She told AOL News she was
"really upset" when she learned about the oil
spill and the attendant threat to birds.
"I really needed to do something,"
Olivia said.
Inspiration arrived quickly. "I’m no
James Audubon, but I can draw," she said. And
so Olivia sat down and wrote her letter to the
Audubon Society, including a painting.
It responded. In addition to purchasing
one of Olivia’s drawings for their New York
headquarters, the organization contacted her to
discuss fund-raising tactics.
The society and Olivia’s family --
architect dad James, English teacher and writer
mom Nadine, and little brother Jackson --
created a program whereby Olivia sends an
original painting to anyone who donates to any
of several organizations helping wildlife in the
gulf. Donors e-mail Nadine, and Olivia takes
pen to paper, creating a unique work of art for
each donor.
Pencil, rather. All of Olivia’s bird works
begin with an ebony pencil and thick watercolor
paper. Olivia then brushes watercolor over the
top. Donors can request specific birds;
otherwise, Olivia chooses birds she knows are
suffering in the Gulf of Mexico right now.
The entire creative process takes about a
half-hour. Initially, this wasn’t a lot of time, but
now that she’s up to 50 requests, she and her
family are brainstorming more time-efficient
options such a poster prints of her paintings.
Olivia is traveling to the gulf region
today, a trip planned before the spill. She
understands how dire the situation has become
and is prepared for what she might see.
She needs to be. Audubon staffers are
finding ever-greater numbers of birds covered
with oil and worry about future effects on the
birds and gulf coast marine life in general.
"Even if BP managed to plug the leak
today, many species in Audubon Important Bird
Areas will still be in trouble because of the huge
amount of oil already coming onshore and
already present in the ocean water where they
derive their food," Delta Willis, senior
communications director for the National
Audubon Society, told AOL News.
"The timing is terrible; brown pelicans
are nesting, plus they were only delisted as an
endangered species last November."
As a result of what society staffers are
seeing, and what they fear for the future,
they’ve urged Congress to authorize emergency
funding to address the crisis.
Olivia, who has been passionate about
birds since she was 6, believes witnessing the
birds’ plight firsthand will motivate her to work
even harder.
"I want to see how bad it is. I am
completely determined," she told AOL. "I don’t
care what I see. It will encourage me to go even
further with this."

Roswell Considers Ending
UFO Festival

A UFO festival could be headed for a crash.
Officials in Roswell, New Mexico, may
be pulling the financial plug on the annual UFO
Festival. The event celebrates the supposed
crash of a flying saucer near the town in the late
1940s.
The festival includes a parade, complete
with folks dressed as space aliens. But the City
Council has approved a preliminary budget for
next year, which doesn't include any money for
the festival.
One council member says it’s
outrageous to spend $150,000 of the taxpayers
money on the UFO event. This summer's
festival is already funded and will go ahead as
planned.

Dennis Hopper may have passed away, but
along with his many film appearances, he has
left an important legacy to UFO researchers.
That's the belief of Vancouver-based
paranormal researcher Jon Kelly, who says the
script that Hopper and "Easy Rider" co-star
Peter Fonda wrote for the 1969 counterculture
classic helped introduce a lot of information
about UFOs to a massive audience.
Kelly points to the campfire scene where
Hopper (who played Billy) and cast member
Jack Nicholson (George) discuss
extraterrestrials and their presence on the
planet.
In the film's dialogue, Hopper states, "I
saw a satellite, man. And it was going across the
sky. And it flashed three times at me and
zigzagged and whizzed off, man. And I saw it."
To which Nicholson replies:
"That was a UFO, beamin' back at ya.
Me and Eric Heisman was down in Mexico two
weeks ago -- we seen 40 of 'em flying in
formation. They, they, they've got bases all over
the world now, you know. They've been coming
here ever since 1946, when the scientists first
started bouncin' radar beams off of the moon.
And they have been livin' and workin' among us
in vast quantities ever since. The government
knows all about 'em."
In spite of Billy's protests to the
contrary, George continues:
"Well, they are people, just like us --
from within our own solar system. Except that
their society is more highly evolved. I mean,
they don't have no wars, they got no monetary
system, they don't have any leaders, because, I
mean, each man is a leader. I mean, each man -
- because of their technology, they are able to
feed, clothe, house and transport themselves
equally, and with no effort.
"Why don't they reveal themselves to us
is because if they did, it would cause a general
panic. Now, I mean, we still have leaders upon
whom we rely for the release of this
information. These leaders have decided to
repress this information because of the
tremendous shock that it would cause to our
antiquated systems.
"Now, the result of this has been that the
Venutians have contacted people in all walks of
life -- all walks of life. [Laughs.] Yes. It, it, it
would be a devastatin' blow to our antiquated
systems -- so now the Venutians are meeting
with people in all walks of life, in an advisory
capacity. For once, man will have a god-like
control over his own destiny. He will have a
chance to transcend and to evolve with some
equality for all."
Interestingly enough, during the scene,
it's Nicholson's character, a straitlaced ACLU
lawyer, who is the true believer that ETs are
here on Earth, while Hopper's character, a
drugged-out biker, is the skeptic.
Kelly thinks this scene is very
significant to modern UFO research for a
variety of reasons.
"Some of the themes brought forward in
this scene were, at the time, made by people
who were considered marginalized kooks,"
Kelly said. "To have them in this movie is
revolutionary, and the consistency of what
Nicholson says has stood the test of time."
Kelly suggests the nature of what
Nicholson says, especially about the
government's knowledge of aliens, is so on-
target that he speculates the film may have been
targeted by people in the know to be an
instrument of disclosure.
"You have to ask yourself, 'Where did
this information come from?' " Kelly said.
"There is a strong possibility that other sources
aligned with the movie decided to use it as a
venue to disclose these ideas."
Kelly points the finger to Nicholson,
who he suspects may have seen a UFO earlier in
his life.
However, Kelly is more fascinated by
what Nicholson unconsciously says during the
same scene.
Kelly is a proponent of "reverse
speech," the idea that a person's true
unconscious feelings come to light when played
backward.
To that end, he claims that when you
reverse the line, "They, they, they've got bases
all over the world now, you know. They've been

coming here ever since 1946, when the
scientists first started bouncin' radar beams off
of the moon," you can hear Nicholson say, "The
mark. A new Babylon. The ion whirlwind."
To the naked ear, this sounds like
gibberish, but Kelly says "the ion whirlwind"
that Nicholson is supposedly referring to is
something called "mini-black hole Star Gate
propulsion," which is how some people believe
UFOs are propelled.
"In layman's terms, people who study
UFOs have noticed that supermassive black
holes expel powerful jets of particles at nearly
the speed of light," he said. "The theory is that
the particles are accelerated by tightly twisted
magnetic fields close to the black hole. In
addition, astronomers have watched material
winding a corkscrew-outward path."
He believes this may explain how UFOs
are powered and also how they are able to shift
dimensions so that they seem to disappear and
reappear.
If this backward sentence by Nicholson
truly explains the basics of UFO propulsion, the
natural question is, how did he get the
information?
The UFO rumor mill has long
speculated that certain Hollywood stars were
allowed access to top-secret data. In fact, some
people claim that President Richard Nixon
personally drove Jackie Gleason to a base to
look at the carcasses of dead aliens. Still, Kelly
admits that Nicholson wasn't a big enough star
before "Easy Rider" to warrant such special
treatment.
"There are two possibilities," Kelly said.
"Either he was a CIA plant -- a New World
Order insider -- or he pieced together everything
on his own without realizing it."

Stephen Bassett has announced that he will
leave June 22 for a 35-day speaking tour of
Australia to include twelve stops in eleven
cities. The principal sponsor of the tour is the
Nexus Conference, produced by Nexus
Magazine on July 24-26.
According to a June 1 press release
issued by PRG, “advocacy for a political
resolution to the UFO/ET issue, which began to
coalesce in the United States in the mid 1990's,
has now become an international ‘Disclosure
Movement’ seeking to end an official embargo
of the truth regarding an extraterrestrial
presence engaging the human race.”
In 2006, Australia joined the list of
countries that have been releasing government-
held UFO files into the public domain. That list
now includes France, Britain, Denmark and
Canada.
Paradigm Research Group was founded
in 1996 exclusively for the purpose of ending
what Bassett calls the UFO “truth embargo,”
and was the first organization to register with
the United States Congress to lobby on behalf of
the UFO/ET disclosure movement. PRG's
political action committee, X-PPAC, is the first
PAC to address the UFO/ET issue.
In 2004, PRG produced the first X-
Conference centered on what is known as
“exopolitics,” the politics surrounding the
UFO/ET phenomenon. The sixth X-Conference
was held May 7-9, 2010 at the National Press
Club in Washington, DC. In 2008, PRG founded
the Exopolitics World Network (EWN) and
Exopolitics United States Network (EUSN) to
help facilitate the expansion of the disclosure

US rocket launch sparks

A bright spiralling light, believed by
astronomers to be a rocket launched from Cape
Canaveral, was spotted in skies across
Australia's east coast just before dawn on
Saturday, sparking a UFO frenzy.
Described by some witnesses as a
"lollipop-type swirl", the cloud of light was seen
over the country's three easternmost provinces -
New South Wales, Queensland and the
Australian Capital Territory - shortly before
sunrise.
"It had a distinct bright centre, much like
a bright star ... (with) trails spiralling and
fattening out from it," Canberra resident James
Butcher told broadcaster ABC of the spectacle,
which he said lasted two or three minutes.
Other witnesses likened the spectacular
phenomenon, footage of which was quick to hit
the Internet, to a "huge revolving moon" with a
swirl in the middle, or an illuminated cloud
moving high and fast above the horizon.
"It certainly had that lollipop-type swirl
... but it was travelling low and fairly fast, and
as it went past me and I looked up, it looked like
a row of lights, maybe four lights," one
Brisbane resident said.
Astronomer Andrew Jacob, acting
curator of the Sydney Observatory, said it was
most likely SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket, launched
Friday from Cape Canaveral shortly before
dawn broke over Australia.
"It fits best, a rocket travelling overhead
with something venting out of it, fuel venting
out of the motor," Jacob said.
"The rocket's probably tumbling or
spinning a little which creates a spiral effect, a
little like water coming out of a hose when you
spin it. That's the best explanation I have so far,
probably the most likely one."
The light was travelling the wrong way
for it to be an astronomical phenomenon, and
Jacob said he had ruled out other possibilities
such as comets, a spotlight on cloud or
reflection of the moon, or a meteor shower.
He said the timing was right for the
SpaceX rocket to have travelled over the
Atlantic Ocean, Africa and the Indian Ocean
and be in skies over Australia at the time the
spiralling light was seen.
The fact that it could be seen over such
a broad area meant whatever caused the flare
had to be very high in the atmosphere or in orbit
above the Earth, Jacob added.
"All the information points to this
SpaceX rocket," he said.
The launch of the privately owned
Falcon 9 test rocket marked a milestone for the
space industry in the race to develop
commercial carriers capable of ferrying cargo
and astronauts to the orbiting International

UFO museum moves to
new site

The UFO Interpretive Centre and Museum has
opened for the summer at its new location – the
former Bon Portage General Store in Shag
Harbour.
“There’s a lot more room than what we
had before,” said Cindy Nickerson, a chair of
the Shag Harbour Incident Society.
The two-storey building allows for
better display and there’s even a small dining
area overlooking the water.
“We’re going to try to get a food licence
to sell tea and coffee and sandwiches,” said
Nickerson.
A grand opening was held on June 5
with the serving of planetary punch and cake.
Rebecca Kendrick and Dwight Crowell
have been hired as museum attendants. Outside
improvements are underway.
A flight simulator will be installed this
summer and a navy “shrine” in one of the
corners contains artifacts from the period –
including a typewriter and dial phone.
There are magazine articles from Brazil
and Japan on the incident and many other
documents to peruse.
Nickerson says the committee is looking
for more items related to the sighting, UFO’s in
general, or outer space.
“We are hoping to enlarge our collection
this year. We also know there are people out
there who have stories from their own
experiences they may like to tell. Our
attendants will be happy to collect information
for our records. Just drop by the museum and

debate
UFOs deserve further study.

In the recent TV series “Into the Universe with

Stephen Hawking,” the world-renowned
physicist stirred the pot of speculation
concerning unidentified flying objects (UFOs)
and potential earthly visitations by
extraterrestrial (ET) entities, warning it would
be best for humankind to avoid contact with
them if possible.
Hawking noted such aliens would
probably be nomads living in massive
spaceships after having exhausted the resources
of their own planets and shifting from one
interstellar refueling station to the next. “If
aliens ever visit us, I think the outcome would
be much as when Christopher Columbus first
landed in America, which didn’t turn out very
well for the Native Americans.” Hawking has
issued this warning for several years. In a 1996
essay, he said until humans become more
sophisticated, they should be “wary of
answering” aliens.
In response to Hawking’s warning, The
Journal of Cosmology, a scholarly journal of
astronomy and astrophysics associated with the
Department of Astronomy, Center for
Astrophysics, at Harvard-Smithsonian in
Cambridge, Mass., published the views of 12
scientists commenting on Hawking’s ET
statements. According to the Los Angeles
Times, “some criticized Hawking’s use of
human behavior to predict what aliens would
do, but others said human behavior was a
reasonable yardstick. Few, however, questioned
the premise of Hawking’s statements — that
alien life forms probably exist and we are likely
someday to encounter them.”
For those who study of the politics of
extraterrestrial contact — the exopolitics
community — and many in the UFO research
community, Hawking’s statement was a double-
edged sword. On the one hand, he brought the
ET topic front and center. On the other, his
statement runs counter to the opinion and claims
of numerous exopolitical analysts and hundreds
of UFO researchers and highly credentialed
witnesses who firmly believe ET/Earth contact
has been well-documented and has been a long-
term phenomenon.
Among those offended by Hawking’s
pronouncement was former Canadian Defense
Minister Paul Hellyer, who is the longest-
serving current member of the Queen’s Privy
Council for Canada.
On May 2, Hellyer publicly defended
extraterrestrial civilizations, which he strongly
believes have not only visited Earth but also
have contributed positively to human
technological advancement. “The reality is that
they’ve been visiting Earth for decades and
probably millennia and have contributed to our
knowledge,” Hellyer said. “Microchips, for
example, fiber-optics, they are just two of the
things that allegedly … came from crashed
vehicles.”
In an interview, Hellyer said: “I think
Professor Hawking is indulging in some pretty
scary talk that I would have hoped would not
come from someone with such an established
stature. I think it’s really sad that a scientist of
his repute would contribute to what I would
consider more misinformation about a vast and
very important subject.”
A May 5 report by Zland
Communications Network also added to the
UFO/ET discussion. That report said in 1984
beloved astronomer/astrophysicist Carl Sagan
revealed to J. Allen Hynek that he, like Hynek,
believed UFOs are real. Hynek, a former
professor of astronomy at Ohio State University
and at Northwestern University, served as
civilian scientific consultant to the U.S. Air
Force’s seminal UFO study know as Project
Blue Book (1952-69).
At the outset, Hynek was a UFO
debunker and, as he said, was an “arch-enemy
of those flying saucer groups and enthusiasts
who very dearly wanted UFOs to be
interplanetary.”
But after leaving Project Blue Book,
Hynek wrote: “Now, however, documentation
which puts the UFO-U.S. government
controversy in quite a new light has become
available” and shows “that the CIA and NSA
protestation of innocence and lack of interest in
UFOs are nothing short of prevarication. ... For
the government to continue to maintain that
UFOs are non-existent in the face of the
documents already released and of other cogent
evidence ... is puerile and, in a sense, an insult
to the American people.”
Sagan’s alleged UFO revelation was
cited by Hynek’s former colleague,
photojournalist and investigative reporter Paola
Leopizzi-Harris.
“My recollection is that Hynek said it
was backstage of one of the many Johnny
Carson Tonight Shows Sagan did,” Leopizzi-
Harris said. “He basically said” to Hynek “in
1984, ‘I know UFOs are real, but I would not
risk my research funding, as you do, to talk
openly about them in public.’ ” This comment
was in stark contrast to many of Sagan’s earlier
statements, including one at a 1968 meeting of
the U.S. House Committee on Science and
Astronautics at which he said: “I do not think
the evidence is at all persuasive, that UFOs are
of intelligent extraterrestrial origin.”
For the past 63 years, many
“mainstream scientists” and other academic
leaders have paid little attention to the UFO/ET
phenomenon. Perhaps the alleged Sagan
revelation and the Hawking/Hellyer debate will
help a bit to stimulate badly needed scholarly
activity regarding that problem.

Flight delayed by falling
maggots
ATLANTA - US Airways said a flight
preparing for takeoff in Atlanta returned to the
gate due to maggots falling from an overhead
luggage bin. The airline said Monday's US
Airways flight 1537, which was bound for New
York with a stop in Charlotte, was taxiing down
the runway when the maggots were noticed and
returned to the gate so the plane could be
cleaned, WAGA-TV, Atlanta, reported
Thursday. US Airways spokesman Todd
Lemacher said the maggots were the fault of a
passenger who brought spoiled meat onto the
flight. He said the passenger with the meat was
"re- accommodated on another airline" while
the rest of the passengers returned to the plane
and continued on to Charlotte. Lemacher said
the passengers were moved to a different plane
in Charlotte and the aircraft was taken out of
service "and will be fumigated as precautionary
measure."

Conspiracy theories thrive
at airports

Officials insist the 26-foot tall statue of the
ancient Egyptian god Anubis now standing
outside the Denver International Airport
terminal is there to promote a King Tut exhibit
opening soon at the Denver Art Museum. But
the giant image of the jackal-headed god tasked
with protecting the spirits of the dead is
alarming some travelers.
"I'm not superstitious, but it doesn't
exactly instill confidence when the god of the
dead is staring through the window at you!"
says Brian Olson, a Colorado resident who
travels frequently through Denver airport.
The Anubis statue, which has also spent
time at the Dallas/Fort Worth International
Airport, will leave Denver International Airport
in mid-August. Staying behind will be several
pieces from the airport's permanent public art
collection that some travelers consider ominous
and, in some cases, out of this world.
Mile-high mysteries
Matt Chasansky, the public art
administrator at Denver airport, has watched all
the YouTube videos, answered many e-mails
and read all the internet postings about the
secret messages allegedly embedded in murals,
sculpture and other art pieces in the airport. He's
glad people are responding emotionally to the
airport's collection but insists concerns about
strange doings at DEN are just
misunderstandings.
One traveler wrote to complain about
the "demons" in the baggage claim area. Those
demons are part of Terry Allen's work, Notre
Denver and are European cathedral-inspired
gargoyles meant not to harm people, but to
protect them from losing their luggage. Other
travelers see a secret code in the words and
images in 21st Century Artifacts, the four
mosaic floors created by Carolyn Braaksma and
Mark Villareal for Concourse B. "The piece is
actually about geography, archeology and
topography," says the airport's Chasansky, "And
those are Native American words and symbols
for the Colorado River and other sites around
the area."
On its website, the airport notes that "a
few fanciful conspiracy theories have been
generated" by Leo Tanguma's mural titled
Children of the World Dream Peace, but that
none of those far-out theories "were intended by
the artist." And both the airport's telephone-hold
message and brochure for the self-guided art
tour make reference to the uneasy feelings some
travelers get from the glowing red eyes of the
32-foot tall blue Mustang by Luis Jiménez, who
died while working on the sculpture. Dubbed
"Bluecifer" by detractors, the sculpture rearing
up on the road leading to the airport has
spawned Facebook pages and campaigns
calling for its removal.
There are also rumors about the airport's
aliens. The ones that have supposedly come to
earth and now live in the hidden underground
areas at the airport. "One theory says you can
put your ears against the columns in the
terminal and hear alien voices from the
basement," says Chasanksy. Another describes
how pushing the right combination of buttons
on a keypad by the airport's time capsule will
signal the elevators to descend to the aliens'
underground base. Unfortunately for alien
hunters, that 'keypad' is just a plaque with
braille lettering on it.
"All those theories are fanciful and fun,"
says Chasansky, "But none of it is true. And the
aliens aren't telling me to say this."
Unexplained events at other airports
Fanciful or not, Denver International
isn't the only airport said to be visited by aliens.
According to Peter Davenport of the Seattle-
based National UFO Reporting Center, "There
have been many reports which seem to be, in
one way or another, associated with airports."
Larry Bowron, now the Transportation
Director for the city of Battle Creek, Mich., says
back when he worked at the Scottsdale, Ariz.,
airport he saw something he still can't fully
explain hover over the runway and then zip out
of sight. "It looked like a helicopter, but had no
lights on it. All of sudden a white beam of light
came on and within two seconds it accelerated
and was out of my sight. There was no sound,
yet it moved 100 times faster than anything I'd
seen in my life."
Bowron says prior to that experience he
was "sort of a skeptic" about UFOs, but "You
see something that defies logic and it makes a
believer out of you."
Travis McQueen, manager of Indiana's
Huntingburg Airport, hasn't seen a UFO, but did
jump in an airplane to take some aerial pictures
of mysterious crop circles that once showed up
on airport-owned land leased to a local farmer.
He won't say whether or not he believes it was
aliens or local pranksters who left their mark in
the farmer's bean field, but McQueen did file a
report with the local sheriff so that the farmer
could file an insurance claim for his lost crops.
Then there's the UFO that may or may
not have visited Chicago's O'Hare International
Airport on November 7, 2006. Peter Davenport
of the National UFO Reporting Center says he
received documents "that left no doubt as to
whether the event occurred, or to its bizarre
nature." He estimates that the disc-shaped
object seen hovering above Gate C-17 was
observed by no fewer than three dozen people,
including aircraft mechanics, airline
supervisory personnel and others he calls
"highly qualified observers."

The Chicago Tribune and other news outlets
published reports about the 2006 UFO incident.
Davenport and others call the event "very
dramatic" and "very well documented." The
only thing officials at O'Hare have ever said
about the possible UFO sighting, though, is "No
comment." []
Man Has Plan To Stop

– One man thinks he has the ultimate plan to
finally stop the Gulf Of Mexico oil spill.
Paranormal intuitive Andrew Reiss has
started the “Mind Power Project” to foil the oil.
He wants people around the world to
combine their minds by practicing a two-minute
“visualization” each day of things like concrete
slabs and steel caps heavy enough to plug the
leaks in the Gulf.
Reiss says the “collective
consciousness” will “materialize” an end to the
disaster because the human mind is stronger
than any machine.
In order for this to work, Reiss needs at
least one person to participate from every city
around the world.
Regardless of their time zone, folks can
partake simultaneously in the visualizations at
either 6 AM, 12 PM, 6 PM, or 12 AM.
As they imagine stopping the spill, they
can chant “cap the tap gap” for extra impact.
Reiss figures that if enough people join,
they’ll be able to seal all the leaks by the 4th of

Clouds Explained

Airplanes can punch holes in clouds and make it
rain, new research shows. As propeller or jet
airplanes pass through the right atmospheric
conditions, they make liquid water droplets
freeze and immediately drop as snow, leaving a
circular fissure behind.
Odd clouds can sometimes elude
explanation for decades, and these mysterious
gaps in the sky, aptly called hole-punch clouds
or channel clouds, have been puzzling sky
gazers and scientists alike since the 1940s. A
1968 article in the magazine Weatherwise called
them “A Meteorological Whodunit?”
As recently as October 2009, headlines
touted a “Mystery UFO Halo Over Moscow.”
Earlier studies had suggested a link between
hole-punch clouds and airplanes, though the
mechanism was unclear.
Previous research also suggests that
propeller planes could make snow fall when
they flew through supercooled clouds, where
water droplets remain liquid despite subfreezing
temperatures. But until recently, a direct
connection between airplanes, hole-punch
clouds and snowfall was missing. Now, a team
of atmospheric scientists report observing all
three in the June Bulletin of the American
Meteorological Society.
Andrew Heymsfield of the National
Center for Atmospheric Research and
colleagues flew a research plane through the
snow produced by a hole-punch cloud west of
Denver International Airport in 2007. The plane
was loaded with instruments for studying how
ice forms in clouds. Radar from the ground
picked up a strange echo in their wake,
indicating oddly-shaped snowflakes.
“We didn’t know it, but we went right
through this precipitation feature that was
spotted from the ground,” Heymsfield said.
Video from the flight showed a hole in a patch
of altocumulus clouds (see below), and two
inches of snowfall directly below the hole.
Heymsfield and colleagues examined
flight records for the nearby airport and linked
the hole and the snow to two commercial
turboprop aircraft that had taken off about an
hour before. The movement of supercooled
water droplets over the planes’ propellers
cooled them enough to make them freeze and
plunge to Earth as snowflakes, Heymsfield said.
Normally, snowflakes or raindrops need a speck
of dust or another imperfection to form around.
But supercooled water can freeze instantly, if it
cools quickly to around minus 35 degrees
Fahrenheit.
To confirm this idea, the researchers
compared the snowflakes that fell on either side
of the hole-punch cloud to the ice crystals that
fell directly beneath it. The snowflakes that fell
from the hole were more plate-like and simple
than those that originated in the surrounding
clouds. The more-complicated snowflakes had
accumulated drops of liquid water as they fell,
Heymsfield said. But in the middle of the hole,
all the liquid had either frozen or evaporated.
“This phenomena removes the droplets,
so these crystals as they fell were not collecting
any droplets,” he said.
“My initial impression is that it’s
reasonable,” commented Patrick Chuang, a
cloud expert at the University of California,
Santa Cruz, who was not involved in the new
work.
The researchers then linked satellite
images of hole-punch clouds to flight schedules
to show that jet aircraft, not just propeller
planes, can also punch holes and produce snow.
The supercooled droplets freeze after passing
over the jet planes’ wings, Heymsfield said.
“We know exactly which aircraft
produced the holes,” he said. “Researchers had
previously linked a lot of snow to propeller
aircraft, but they hadn’t made the connection to
jet aircraft.”
“There are a lot more jets flying around
than there are propeller aircraft, so there’s much
more opportunity to generate this effect,” he
added.
Not all flights through banks of clouds
will produce snow. About 7.8 percent of the
Earth’s surface is covered with clouds at the
right elevation for supercooled droplets to form.
And because jet aircraft don’t generally cruise
at those altitudes, they may only form hole-
punch clouds when they take off or land.
The extra precipitation left by airplanes
punching holes in clouds is probably not enough
to change global climate patterns, Heymsfield
added. But “regionally, it could certainly
enhance snowfall.” []
UFOs at the UN -- A Close
Encounter

(June 25) -- Will the European Union disclose
any UFO files it might have, as one lawmaker
called for several days ago, perhaps bringing
new facts to a field long relegated by
government officials as science fiction?
Maybe, but this isn't the first time world
leaders have had a close encounter with UFOs.
As reported here earlier this week,
Italian Northern League party leader Mario
Borghezio has urged all 27-member EU
governments to open the books and reveal any
previously secret UFO files.
In Borghezio's declaration, he
mentioned a 1978 United Nations summit in
which "the 33rd General Assembly ... formally
recognized UFOs as a valid issue."
When I read Borghezio's reference, it
struck an obvious chord in my memory.
Obvious because I was directly involved, and to
a large degree, responsible for bringing UFOs to
the attention of the U.N. that year.
Let me share some of that experience
with you.
In 1977, Eric Gairy, the prime minister
of the Caribbean island nation of Grenada, was
struggling to generate U.N. interest in his
personal crusade to establish an international
committee dedicated to studying and sharing
UFO reports.
Meantime, I had recently produced a
documentary record album (yes, vinyl!) for
CBS Inc., called "UFOs: The Credibility
Factor." It featured the voices of military,
government and scientific experts coming
together for the first time on record to talk about
the possibility that some UFOs might really be
alien spacecraft.
After that album, I wanted to do more to
help people who dared to speak about their own
personal UFO experiences -- only to be met
with ridicule and scorn.
Dreamer that I was, I wanted to bring
something before the United Nations, to try to
get that esteemed group of international leaders
to finally come together on a subject that could
potentially advance the world in both scientific
and sociological ways.
If you want to do something at the U.N.,
I learned, you can't just walk in off the street and
announce that you want to tell the world how
important UFOs are (or any subject, for that
matter). You have to either be a delegate or
sponsored by a country.
So I sent my UFO album to Gairy via
the Grenada embassy in New York. He and I
met and struck a deal: I told him I was aware of
his efforts lobbying the U.N. to pay attention to
his UFO campaign, and I offered to produce a
presentation with a stacked lineup of UFO
experts bound to pique the interest of
international leaders.

For John P. Timmerman, talking about
unidentified flying objects is a daily occurrence.
The Lima native began his study of UFOs
before the town of Roswell, New Mexico
became famous for a baffling experience. He
has interviewed many about their own
experiences with UFOs, yet there is one major
hole in his life experience.
"I have never seen what I would like to
experience," admitted Timmerman. "In the rest
of my life, I have spoken to, talked to, talked
with thousands and thousands and thousands
and thousands of real people who are part of the
program I put together for people to come to me
and tell me of their experiences. And they did."
Now, at the age of 87, Timmerman's
passion is to share what he has learned and to
get others to think about the unknown.
He noted, "I want to make sure that the
people who really want to know will realize the
realities of their lifetime and study the subjects,
the planets and the sky around us, because we're
dealing with something extremely interesting.
To ignore it would make us all fools."
According to Timmerman, it was 1946
when his interest in astronomy collided with
reports of "flying saucers" in Washington. "I
wrote a letter to three professors in a college
nearby and asked them if I could be of help in
finding stories," he remembered. "They sent a
nice letter back to Lima and told me I was
welcome to try."
Timmerman was asked to join the J.
Allen Hynek Center for UFO Studies as an
investigator and board member. He jumped at
the chance.
"This was an opportunity for me to work
with a man that I thought was highly intelligent
and deeply interested in what he was assigned to
do by the United States Air Force. All the calls
and experiences he had during that time were
something well beyond what he could handle by
himself," stated Timmerman.
After all the interviews he has conducted
and all the investigations he has undertaken,
Timmerman remains convinced that there is
more in the universe than most people realize.
While some sightings turn out to be easily
explainable, others are not.
"I can't explain all these things," he
shrugged. "I just think we should study the
things around us and prepare to protect our
planet from maybe a big rock coming alongside
and tearing us up. That's astronomy. So instead
of some of the other things we waste our time
on, we should make sure we have a clear
understanding of reality on our planet."
Timmerman's stories raise more
questions than provide answers. He asserts that
the government has covered up information and
changed facts in official reports. He claimed
that Hynek discovered the discrepancies and
spoke out against Project Blue Book - the
project with which his name had become
forever linked.
Some of the stories that Timmerman has
heard firsthand can boggle the mind. He
believes there is much that mankind does not
know or understand, but does not offer much in
the way of speculation. Aware that his mind has
begun to weaken, he has become content to
raise questions and to urge people to wonder
about the unknown.
He said, "We should be reconsidering
our belief in everything. We should pay
attention to what we don't know now."
Timmerman has spoken out about UFOs
perhaps as much as people have spoken to him
on the topic. His work with the Center for UFO
Studies has carried over to local groups like the
Lima Area UFO Research Associates
(LAURA). Although his mind works more
slowly, his steady voice still resonates strongly
with a charge to look beyond what is already
known. At an advanced age, Timmerman still
strives to teach people about the unknown.
"I'm glad that I have taken a study of the
unknown," he declared. "My wife wants me to
stay how and work in the garden! But I want to
be informative and do things to increase
people's knowledge about the world in which
they live." []
UFO commission for
Denver on November
ballot

DENVER - The EXTRA campaign, which is
calling on Denver residents to help them post
alleged documented extraterrestrial evidence on
the city's website, will have to wait until
November.
Extraterrestrial Affairs Commission
ballot initiative had been put on the August 10,
primary election ballot, but the Denver
Elections Division posted the change of date on
its web site in June.
The commission wants to investigate
extraterrestrials claims and post the finding on

the city's website.
"Knowing the truth about extraterrestrial
beings, their visits to Earth, and the broad
implications of these realities for humanity, is
why an Extraterrestrial Affairs Commission is
needed," states the campaign's website.
Supporters for the commission,
including Jeff Peckman, who says for decades
the government has covered up the existence of
aliens, of alien abductions, and extraterrestrial
cures for cancer.
Campaign supporters hope the delay
will give them more time to educate the public
about risks and benefits of interacting with
extraterrestrial visitors.
If passed by voters in November, the
seven member commission would post alleged
evidence of extraterrestrial visitors on Denver's
government web site.
The commission would be funded by
grants, gifts and donations. The commission
says no money from the city budget will be used
for the website.
Earlier this year, the Mission for
Inhibiting Bureaucracy recently registered with
the city as a political committee against the
Denver Extraterrestrial Affairs Commission.
The M.I.B argues the commission would
cost the city $23,000 a year in incidental costs.
UFO Contact July 4th -
will alien beings celebrate
Fourth with us?
The aliens are coming, the aliens are
coming! Stop playing on your new Xbox 360
and listen up! Apparently there is quite a bit of
internet activity with people concerned over
potential UFO Contact for July 4th, 2010. It's
understandable that some people may believe
fireworks are a signal to extraterrestrial
travelers. The bright flashes in the sky may
even spell out alien words we don't even realize,
that promote peace or unrest among beings from
other planets.
When it comes to aliens, you either
believe they exist or don't. The best way to
prepare for them if you believe is to read alien
books and watch popular films which portray
aliens. Some of the best include ET, Close
Encounters of the Third Kind, Men in Black,
Signs and The Day The Earth Stood Still (the
older version not the new one with Keanu
Reeves). Don't forget "Independence Day"
which actually was released for the July 4th
holiday and marketed based on an alien
invasion coming to the USA!
Don't panic if you're expecting some
sort of alien invasion on the Fourth of July.
There has yet to be a confirmation that aliens
will arrive here on July 4, 2010 by CNN,
USAToday, Fox News or any other major news
outlet. However, it's unclear how aliens would
notify us if they are planning to visit. Stay
tuned, and remember to use aluminum foil on

He quickly agreed, and I spent 1978
gathering my ammunition for the November
event.
In July of that year, I arranged for
several of my UFO "presenters" to meet with
Gairy and U.N. Secretary-General Kurt
Waldheim to discuss our plans.
The experts I requested included
astronomer (and former UFO consultant to the
Air Force) J. Allen Hynek, who coined the term
"Close Encounters of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd
Kind."
On hand with Hynek and me were
French astronomer Jacques Vallee;
astrophysicist Claude Poher, who headed up the
official French UFO research group;
psychologist David Saunders, a member of the
famous U.S. government Condon Committee,
which discredited UFOs in 1969; and Gordon
Cooper, one of America's original "right stuff"
astronauts.
At this highly publicized meeting,
Hynek told Waldheim that he and many of his
colleagues felt that "the time has come for
official education of the public regarding UFOs.
We now recognize that, apart from its potential
scientific importance, it has sociological and
political significance."
I spent the rest of 1978 collecting a large
number of pictures, films and documents to
include in the final November presentation --
many of which had to be translated into several
languages for the delegates.
Among the documents given me by
Hynek was one he'd managed to secure from the
Air Force while he was the official scientific
consultant. It was a chapter from a 1968
textbook, "Introductory Space Science," created
by the USAF Academy department of physics.
And it was, of course, not for the public eye.
In the lengthy chapter, titled
"Unidentified Flying Objects," Air Force
officials laid out for academy cadets clear and
concise information about UFOs, including the
following, almost shocking, revelations
(completely contrary to official explanations):
"What we will do here is to present
evidence that UFOs are a global phenomenon
which may have persisted for many thousands
of years ...
"The most stimulating theory for us is
that the UFOs are material objects which are
either 'manned' or remote-controlled by beings
who are alien to this planet. There is some
evidence supporting this viewpoint."
After offering cadets numerous
examples of UFO cases that were unexplained,
the chapter concludes, "This leaves us with the
unpleasant possibility of alien visitors to our
planet, or at least of alien controlled UFOs ...
and what questionable data there are suggests
the existence of at least three and maybe four
different groups of aliens."
Even filmmaker Steven Spielberg
offered to help with our 1978 presentation. Just
a few months after the 1977 premiere of his epic
"Close Encounters of the Third Kind" (in which
astronomer Hynek served as technical adviser),
Hynek, Vallee and I met with Spielberg in
California, and he offered to have Columbia
Pictures provide UFO-related materials to show
at the U.N.
When the day of the event arrived, Nov.
27, 1978, in addition to speeches given to the
special political committee by Hynek and
Vallee, nuclear physicist Stanton Friedman
spoke about the evidence that favored his theory
of extraterrestrial visitation.
And there was also Army Lt. Col. Larry
Coyne, who electrified the committee with a
story about a night in 1973 when he and his
Army helicopter crew had a terrifying close
encounter with a UFO.
One of the documents I obtained for the
event was a letter that I asked ex-astronaut
Cooper to write, which was distributed to all
U.N. delegates. In it, he said, "I believe these
extraterrestrial vehicles and their crews are
visiting this planet from other planets, which
obviously are a little more technically advanced
than we are here on Earth.
"I would also like to point out that most
astronauts are very reluctant to even discuss
UFOs due to the great numbers of people who
have indiscriminately sold fake stories and
forged documents, abusing their names and
reputations without hesitation."
It was an amazing experience, bringing
all these people together for such a high-profile
event. The outcome of our efforts was that the
General Assembly invited interested member
nations "to take appropriate steps to coordinate
on a national level scientific research and
investigation into extraterrestrial life, including
unidentified flying objects, and to inform the
secretary-general of the observations, research
and evaluation of such activities."
But the UFO issue quietly hit the back
burner on the U.N. agenda when, in early 1979,
Gairy was overthrown in Grenada by opposition
leader Maurice Bishop.
So, here we are in 2010 with a new
international effort afoot. It's no wonder I feel a
little kinship with the European Union's
Borghezio. It would be great if his endeavor to
pry some real UFO stuff out of the EU works.
It's been 32 years since I tried it at the
U.N. I'm a patient man.

time UFOs made an appearance at a G20
summit, argue researchers into the mysterious
objects.
And one Canadian authority speculates
Earth’s most powerful commanders suddenly
have a better chance of getting a glimpse of
something strange in the Canadian sky.
Those who are looking for answers into
one of the planet’s most stubborn riddles —
“What the heck is that up there?” — have been
energized by G20 members opening up
previously classified UFO documents.
Canada has joined Australia, Britain,
France, Spain, Brazil, Sweden and New
Zealand in making the papers pubic.
While chronicling bizarre incidents —
British air commanders once ordered a pilot to
shoot down a UFO before the object vanished
— the files haven’t inspired world leaders to
bring the mysteries down to Earth.
“With more pressing things on the G20
agenda … it’s unlikely that UFOs would ever
come up in discussions,” acknowledges Chris
Rutkowski, a Winnipeg science writer and
leading authority on UFOs in Canada.
But an unexplained event near a G20
summit might put the issue on the table, he
believes.
“In fact, one suggestion is that the recent
earthquake just outside of Ottawa might
generate — or have generated — some UFO
activity throughout southern Ontario,” he
explains.
Some — though Rutkowski isn’t
convinced — believe UFOs are caused by
electromagnetic energy released before and
after seismic events.
“Hence, G20 leaders might see some
UFOs while in the Toronto area,” Rutkowski
says of the theory.
Nick Pope — who once ran the British

Defence — now helps with the declassification

And the days of threats, intimidation,
incarceration and ‘hits’ should have long since
passed. It’s time we all stand up in our own way,
and take what’s rightfully ours. We are not
slaves. We are a connected human family. No
one has the right to dictate the direction of our
lives but us. Please remember that.
I will also tell you, that although I feel
absolutely fine, and am sure the threat above
will soon pass, I find it absolutely necessary to
make one thing clear. In studying the
mysterious deaths of many UFO researchers,
microbiologists, and whistle blowers over the
years, many have been deemed ‘suicides’ by the
coroner, conveniently after releasing some very
damaging testimony and evidence of these
truths. The kinds of things that would embarrass
or harm the agenda of certain powers. I can tell
you, without hesitation, that that will NEVER
be a solution for me under any circumstance.
I have great plans when this incarnation
of mine is done upon earth, and suicide only
defeats, destroys, and screws with any such
plans. So IF anything ever happened, this letter
is my testimony to that fact that I did NOT
commit suicide. And I would ask, for however
many of you choose to store it in your files or
post on your walls or blogs, that you
immediately release this letter (en masse) to any
media source our outlet that you can find, and
expose them for who they are. That this was no
accident, nor intention to end my own life. This,
I would expect to be my little insurance policy.
If they act, you act. That simple. And if
anything did happen, you would also be notified
by any of several of my closest friends. So no
news is good news.

Skepticism is fine, but
dismissal can hurt
Philip Chard
Richard scoffs at people who believe in UFOs,
precognition, ESP, poltergeists or other so-
called "paranormal" phenomena.
"Superstitious fools" is what he calls
them.
Foolish or not, even where science is
widely taught in schools, many people harbor
such beliefs. Arrayed against them are skeptics
who argue that there is no empirical evidence to
support claims of things that go bump in the
night.
As a psychotherapist, I've worked with
many clients who ascribe to what Richard calls
"magical thinking." Those who disclose to me
their paranormal episodes usually do so
reluctantly, recognizing that shrinks often look
askance at such matters or consider them
symptomatic of mental illness.
However, I am not so inclined.
"I believe you've had a real experience,"
I tell many. "What is open to question is how
you are interpreting that experience."
Most magical thinking arises from a
murky but persistent sense that there is more to
the world than what is obvious or measurable.
Many of us undergo mysterious happenings that
feel quite real but for which there is no
evidence-based explanation, leaving plenty of
room to conjure up our own versions.
Since our ancestors first threw rocks at
the moon, we've been making up causes to
explain the seemingly inexplicable. Phenomena
that we now understand, such as lightening,
were once ascribed to magical forces.
As science has evolved, prior
explanations for various mysteries have proven
false with facts. However, given how little we
know about such things as human
consciousness, cosmology and life force, it's
obvious that science doesn't have all the
answers.
So when folks like Richard dismiss
paranormal phenomena as fictitious or
delusional, they may be making their own
interpretive error. As I reminded him, "The
absence of proof is not the proof of absence."
There may be another way to view all
this.
Author and futurist Arthur Clarke, who
wrote "2001: A Space Odyssey," stated that,
"Any sufficiently advanced technology is
indistinguishable from magic." So if you could
go back a few centuries and pull out your
iPhone or laptop, you'd be viewed as a wizard in
your own right.
By way of analogy, people reporting
paranormal experiences may be encountering a
"sufficiently advanced technology" that is
embedded in the underlying structure and
functioning of the universe itself. After all, what

we do know for certain about so-called reality is
far exceeded by what we don't.
It is possible that some paranormal
episodes represent moments when we
encounter, even if only briefly, unseen forces
and phenomena that surround us but which still
elude our detection. Consider theoretical
physicists who mathematically describe
dimensions that may be invisibly intertwined in
our midst.
Skepticism can be a good thing, but it
improves when also applied to the skeptic's own
assumptions.[]

On an ice-blue clear, cold but sunny, summer
day two decades after the poles shifted, and the
volcanoes erupted in unison on the Ring of Fire,
the "Healing Earth Assets Report (HEAR)" was
stoically submitted by those of us former
government scientists and engineers still living
and collecting data in these remote regions.
Today we were tasked by the Chairman
of the civilian steering committee of HEAR to
release our findings on the collapse of
civilization to the global representatives of
H.O.P.E. (Help Our Planet Evolve). These were
people in self-sustaining villages located around
the world that had survived the cataclysms in
Solar Cycle 24. It was chilling, sobering if not
sublime, to be present at this the First Green
Man Conference in New Iceland.
Now that the ash clouds cleared, finally,
it was convened in the recently dedicated solar-
powered amphitheatre at the Katla Memorial
Museum: the now dormant volcanic site of the
initial plume that plunged the former United
Kingdom and European Union into an Ice Age.
Although the severest climate changes
began with floods and firestorms, massive solar
eruptions in era-2012, that severely impacted
the "world's bread basket" in the former United
States of America.
But the death nail that sealed our coffin
was conflicts of the Third World, a series of
battles, skirmishes, and terror acts against the
nuclear-armed superpowers, and tactical
surgical strikes made in retaliation and
containment, known collectively as WWIII.
In the aftermath of wars and rumors of
wars, it was now known that we humans had
misunderstood our mission, and the message of
the messengers sent from inner and outer space
with the admonition: "Stop the pillaging,
plundering, and rape of Gaia -- or else face
extinction."
In the autopsy section of the HEAR I
stated that history would remember us as a

killed the plankton in freshwater lakes and
saltwater seas and the mushroom fungi network
on land. These critical microorganisms were
necessary to sustain oxygen in the food chain
and then the crops-and civilization-failed: the
population-at-large succumbed to oxygen-
nutrient depletion, starvation."

Our lost civilization was completely
out-of-balance and had overlooked the basics of
spiritual lifestyles: clean air, pure water, and
organic food and its significance in cleaning and
clearing the chakras -- our light body "double."
That is, our species destroyed the elemental
links in the chain of being and suffered the
consequences of arrogance and unpreparedness
for the climate shift of the ages from global
warming to cooling, the volcanic eruptions and
the corresponding sulfuric toxicity of the rains
in era-2012.
This oversight led to wholesale
starvation because there was nothing to sell in
the retail seafood, fruit and vegetable produce
markets anymore. The Florida and California
coastlines were underwater, farmers' fields were
still clogged with ashes in the Midwest and our
horn of plenty was suddenly very empty.
Why did we not begin an immediate
effort to build commercial greenhouses with
solar and wind-powered generators in every
major city worldwide? We could have easily
made lawns in the city parks, for example,
available for local citizens to grow gardens and
share the produce with each other. It would have
had a positive impact psychologically as well as
physically if we also added Tai Chi exercises,
sunrise-sunset meditations, and health
education classes within community wellness
context group gatherings. Public officials would
have benefited with votes of confidence from
constituents for their visionary preparations for
earth changes-to-come instead of the
reactionary panic that followed in the
metropolitans.
Specifically, for the record, it was noted
that Gaia had created human beings with
hypersensitive, complex central nervous
systems to in fact be the central pain centers of
Mother Earth in order to monitor its wellbeing.
The big idea was to evolve a new super hominid
species out of all the other life forms-animals,
plants, minerals-so it that it could see and feel
the climate changes and help circumvent the
next regular as clockwork Ice Age cycle with its
cerebral cortex designed to envision new green
technologies. Then with its opposing thumbs it
could build the tools needed to restore the
Garden of Eden. Even though this capacity was
a two-edged sword, the greatest gift and
potential curse, to Gaia for if we failed to
awaken-in-time and perform our life-enhancing
function, the consequences would be fatal to us.
Unfortunately, that is what happened:
we served only ourselves and now there would
be no bountiful harvests from amber waves of
grain: no gain from our painstaking attempts to
control nature with our chemical agricultural
arsenals. No feasts or holidays, rather meager
meals, but thanksgiving did, however, continue
for those that remained alive one more day, and
long cold night without utilities. Yet the world
had been cleansed and purified by the ensuing
solar storms and pole shift: it was a beautiful
sight to behold, albeit the results left a barren
landscape.
Speaking for myself, I missed the sights
and sounds of the birds and bees, the earthy
green smells of my gardens. These memories
were comforting but very, very sad because we
fell so far so fast from a privileged society to
one focused on survival and not much else now.
The good times were behind us and we
did it to ourselves: no one was to blame. Even if
culprits to this chaos could be identified, they
were dead. The bullets and bunkers and bank
holdings did not save them for long. These
previous symbols of wealth proved totally
worthless and non-negotiable for the one thing
they couldn't buy from the hard-working,
country-dwelling, "pagans": food.
How did we let this happen? We ignored
the warnings from the mystics, prophets, and
shamans, as well as our own federal agencies as

One of my high school students asked me
recently why the Greeks told such horrific tales
of rape and murder.
This led to a discussion of why the
ancients created their myths. Basically, without
a deep knowledge of science, they needed to tell
stories to help them understand what must have
seemed like a chaotic world.
Much like the world we live in today.
Oh, we know our science. We
understand the Earth is not flat, and it revolves
around the sun. We know about climate change
and evolution, too -- at least most us do.
But we're confused about politics,
economics and technology. All is not what it
seems, and we are furiously concocting
conspiracy theories and modern myths to
explain it all.
Barack Obama is not a native-born
citizen. He is a Muslim. He wants to disarm us
all. He is a socialist.
The Bush administration engineered
9/11. The Illuminati rule the world. Fluoride in
our water makes us stupid. Vaccines cause
autism in toddlers or turn adults into passive
drones.
In 2012, the world will end. The Mayans
said so. We are in the end times, biblically
speaking, anyway. If the Beast promised in
Revelations doesn't get us first (and he is out
there, make no mistake), the New World Order
will.
Our digitalized TVs are spying on us.
Big Pharma creates new illnesses to sell more
drugs. Airplanes release "chemtrails" of
mysterious biological substances.
Admission: I love conspiracy theories. I
don't believe most of them and am not entirely
convinced of those I consider plausible. But
until a few days ago, I thought my interest in
them was fun, a sort of hobby. An "alternative
reality" show.
I was listening to the radio. One of those
10-minute business updates came on. "The
stock market rallies," the host's voice trilled. I
expected "Joy to the World" to rock out, rather
than the show's regular theme.
I didn't feel any joy. So what if the stock
market is up? The rest of the country is going to
hell in a handbasket, to put it mildly.
How can anyone in their right mind be
excited about a stock market rally when the darn
thing is going up and down like a yo-yo on
cocaine? My husband and I no longer have
money invested in it (thank God), but an
investor would have to be in heavy denial to
think that what is happening on Wall Street is
business as usual.
It does not help to be fed a steady diet of
"ho, ho, ho, the market has rallied and all is
right in the world."
This sort of insanity breeds conspiracy
theories.
Here's one of my very own. The
government pushed workers into 401(k)s not for

our own benefit, but to rationalize reducing or

I've got another one. Why, when
thousands of gallons of oil are pouring into the
Gulf of Mexico, aren't gas prices going up?
Maybe because that would be the death blow to
our economy? How come the laws of supply
and demand aren't working? Huh?

came to this same conclusion that I did too
ultimately: myth is fact and matter is mind. He

Close encounter experiences became
commonplace in the late 20th century for a
reason: the celestial clock was ticking and our
time had run out. Even my two adult daughters,
Michelle and Kimberly, met the alien "others"
while camping with friends over the 4th of July
weekend, 1994, at Lake Cushman, Washington
in the Olympic National Forest.
Upon reflection, I realized that the

or, perhaps, staying behind -- returning to The

Wisdom in the Pyramid Texts: The Mystical
Tradition of Ancient Egypt: "The word field is
frequently used in both the Pyramid Texts and
later religious literature to refer to the
nonphysical regions traversed by the dead." In
truth, we are a conscious immortal soul, an
"energy signature pattern" swimming in an
infinite ocean of living worlds and intelligent
beings collocated within the vacuum of space:

For instance, my youngest daughter,
Kim, age 20 then, was the most disturbed from
her contact experience, so I conducted an
immediate hypnotic session to give her some
relief from the strain she was under. It was clear
that Kim had experienced a deep psychological
shock of some type. She had the classic
symptoms of trauma -- nervousness, disoriented
ideations, and rapid speech. This was totally
uncharacteristic of her.
But under hypnosis, she became more
animated as well as agitated about what was to
be our future environment in the Pacific
Northwest after the "movement of the earth,"
perhaps that meant a pole shift and climate
change into an Ice Age?
I did not know then. I mean please do
not think for a moment that I was such a clever
fellow at that point. None of this mumbo-jumbo
made sense to me at all. No one could have been
more dumbfounded than I was to listen to what
my girls saw as the turning of the local
mountain ranges into a lush jungle habitat for
apes and chimpanzees with human-looking men
playing with them. Say what?
Many years later, after reviewing the
literature on UFOs, I speculated my children
may have been communicating telepathically,
symbolically, with these monkeys and men?
Again, I did not know but it was as if a
cataclysmic change had occurred in climate and
what were once evergreen forests had been
altered, shape shifted into a semi-tropical
habitat for species native to Africa and the
Amazon.
How did weather patterns, if not the
hemispheres, get turned upside down? Do pole
shift symptoms begin with climate changes,
crop circles, telepathy, near-death experiences,
ghosts, and UFOs too, because we are
swallowed whole by the zero-point field? That
is, we come in close contact with the supreme
source of magnetic power that creates
everything in existence: The Mind of God
within the Galactic Center?
Ironically, I recalled, as I rested on my
cot in the tent provided me that brisk evening at
the conference what science writer John White
had written that fell on myth-challenged deaf
and dumb ears: "If we avoid or ignore the
possibility of a pole shift, we will have only
ourselves to blame should there be a
cataclysmic repeat of the ‘myth' of Atlantis":

If only we'd understood that myth is
fact.
Before I fell asleep, I also mentally
reviewed the notes I had gathered and saved
from Wikipedia way-back when that added this
insight into my investigations now that still ring
true: "The most frequently occurring theory of
classical elements, held by the Hindu, Buddhist,
Japanese and Greek systems of thought, is that
there are four elements, namely Earth, Water,
Air, Fire, which are currently associated with
the four known states of matter (solid, liquid,
gas and plasma) and a fifth element known
variously as space, Idea, Void."
The five elements of light and how they
interacted were what we had cleverly
compartmentalized, vouchsafed into parlor
games: for instance, astrology and the Zodiac
(Circle of Animals), I Ching (Book of Changes),
and Tarot. Although we still forgot the meaning
to these mnemonics that we had left behind
centuries ago to rediscover: they were the
memory-aides required to completely decipher
the DNA programs. These genetic maps contain
our Hero's Journey on earth, the thousand-or
more-faces we have worn throughout our
eternal lifetimes climbing up and down, and
obviously falling off often The World Tree.
Much as Daniel Pinchbeck had shared in
Breaking Open the Head: A Psychedelic
Journey into the Heart of Contemporary
Shamanism, speaking to the insights of
Romanian scholar of religion Mircea Eliade:
"The underworld, the center of the earth, and the
‘gate' of the sky are situated on the same axis,
and in past times it was by this axis that passage
from one cosmic region to another was
effected."
Furthermore, Pinchbeck captured the
key theme to shamanism from the personal
relationship he had cultivated with the "plant
teachers" himself in Africa and the Amazon.
Quoting historian William Irwin Thompson, he
reminded me that the shaman is a "transformer
who takes in powerful energies, steps them
down, and turns them into a weaker alternating
current that can be used in all the homes of the
ordinary folk."
The shaman, in other words, shape shifts
the invisible forces of nature, the "spirits,"
within his own consciousness symbolically to
walk between worlds. That is, past, present, and
future reality is magically
simultaneously when we tell ourselves a new
altered
story of who we are, why we are here, and what
outcome it is we want to see manifest. This is
what Wilson Van Dusen meant when declaring,
"The great spiritual adventurers found the
whole of creation and every part of it symbolic,"
in Seeing through Symbols: Insights into Spirit.
Thus, it were these aforementioned
images of the Ankh to the Egyptians, the
Crooked Cross of Christ to the Gnostics, and
The World Tree to the Cabbalists that haunted
me the most late at night into the wee morning
hours as I valiantly searched for the formula to
the ceremonies, the rituals initiating "family
trees" into the eternal "mysteries of life and
death."
I spent every waking hour searching for
the secret to trance meditation protocols used to
turn on the ch'i, the life force flow of hydrogen
gas plasma in our subtle solar body cell
meridians to activate our "light body double" to
soul travel. I mean if you really could enter and
leave your physical body at will, how could
"death' hold you in fear anymore? Why would
we give our power-and our hard earned money-
away to utility companies, indeed only because
we felt powerless! Was the operation of ch'i in
the cosmos the solved riddle of the Sphinx?
Stating this is the case in A Monument to
the End of Time: Alchemy, Fulcanelli, & The
Great Cross, co-authors Jay Weidner and
Vincent Bridges reiterated, "The Pharaoh then
built the Ankh within himself by aligning his
subtle bodies or energy fields in this pattern.
Psychologist Dr. Robert Masters in his book
The Goddess Sekhmet: Psychospiritual
Exercies of The Fifth Way, describes the
Egyptian theory of the five magical bodies that,
when aligned properly, creates a super-sensible
or divine consciousness." Sekhmet has many,
many titles but one thing is crystal-clear, she
personified the Mother of All Gods. She
mastered the cobra serpent Uraeus, ch'i of the
trance opening third eye rituals, employed by
the magician-priests in the Egyptian sacred
pyramid-shaped temples of solar-disc worship.
Understanding the symbol of Ankh
opens the gateway to the stars for those that
seek its life-enhancing gene growing power
consciously or, in most cases and especially
mine, unconsciously. Distinguished biochemist
Colm Kelleher, Ph.D., formerly of the National
Institute for Discovery Science, in Las Vegas,
Neveda, made these deeply profound assertions
in his article titled "Retrotransposons as
Engines of Human Bodily Transformation" in
that: "There are unusual physical, as well as
psychological consequences in humans to the
attainment of the exalted state of mind known as
enlightenment, nirvana, or samadhi. These
reported changes include, but are not limited to,
sudden reversal of aging, emergence of a light
body and observed bodily ascension into the
sky."
In particular, Dr. Kelleher determined
mutations were taking place within our species
from our willing-and unwilling-participation in
meditative trancelike states such as near-death
experiences (NDEs), close encounters with ETs
(extraterrestrials), and UFOs. That is to say,
UFOs are "hyperdimensional," beings of light
within the zero-point field, albeit living

expressions of language in their "pure energy"
thought forms: angelic, alien, archetypal-
symbolic, or in other words, shape shifting
shamans.
More so, the end-of-time means that
space itself is mutating: there is in fact an
intensification of cosmic consciousness going
on here and now that is weaving other species
with us into a new heaven and new earth realm.
This is trauma incarnate for people and planet:
what the astrologers and alchemists tracked as
the precession of the equinoxes, the shift of the
ages into Zep Tepi-First Time-and Egyptian
pharaohs knew as the Eternal Return of the
Sun/Son of God: Ra.
In The Voice of the Earth, Theodore
Roszak proclaimed "...what may have been
overlooked by the Gaians in their often
sentimental depiction of the Goddess is the dark
side of the matriarchal tradition. Not all Earth
Mothers are endowed with loving kindness and
mercy: some, like Kali and Hecate, are hard,
often, chastising parents. Sekhmet, the terrible
lion-headed Goddess of Egypt, once sought to
devour the entire human race for its

that. Gaia, is in his view, "stern, and tough,
always keeping the world warm and

ruthless in her destruction of those who

Sekhmet is the Egyptian "cat," the fierce
fighter lioness deity protector of the pharaohs,
also known as Suns/Sons of God. She was the
daughter of the new Sun God, Ra, after his cult
supplanted the worship of Horus, the son of
Osiris and Isis, who gave birth daily to the rising
of the sun on the horizon. Her name means the
One Before Whom Evil Trembles, the Mistress
of Dread, and the Lady of Slaughter.
Sekhmet protected the pharaoh in battle,
destroying enemies with fiery arrows, jagged
thunder bolts of lightning. In fact, she took on
the bright glare of the midday sun, hence her
title: the Lady of Flame. She was a conduit for
serpentine kundalini-ch'i-using the dark side of
light to bring disease and the bright side to
provide cures to ills that she created from the
imbalance of the bipolar yin-yang fields of
electricity-magnetism within the zero-point
field. That is the way she created change and
movement of matter at all levels of creation-
subatomic to galactic: Sekhmet represents
polarization of consciousness into two
components: male and female, good and evil,
light and dark, positive and negative, and so on.
In accordance with the laws of energy,
Sekhmet then healed a person by bringing their
two brain hemispheres back into balance by
unifying them through trance meditation. This
activated the solar plexus chakra fire element to
purify the blood of bacteria and viruses as well.
She is for this reason synonymous with the
Egyptian priesthood of physicians and
surgeons.
This tautology I recalled from a military
instructor in my basic electronics radar class in
the Army: "The same energy in microwave
ovens that cooks your meals can cook your
goose faster!" In similar manner, the nuclear
power used in medicine to treat cancer patients
can cause enormous harm in the weapons of

In 2013, the earth will be attacked from
space, with one possible outcome being mind-
bogglingly severe disruption to our tech-centric
way of life.
"The sun is waking up from a deep
slumber, and in the next few years, we expect to
see much higher levels of solar activity," says
Richard Fisher, head of NASA's Heliophysics
Division. "At the same time, our technological
society has developed an unprecedented
sensitivity to solar storms."
Fisher's comments came during the run-
up to last week's Space Weather Enterprise
Forum 2010, at which scientists gathered to
discuss how to prepare for the massive solar
storms set to strike the earth in 2013.
"We know it is coming but we don’t
know how bad it is going to be," Fisher told the
Daily Telegraph. "It will disrupt communication
devices such as satellites and car navigations,
air travel, the banking system, our computers,
everything that is electronic. It will cause major
problems for the world."
The earth has been battered by solar
storms before, but never has civilization been so
vulnerable, since it's now so dependent upon
both electrical and electronic infrastructure.
In pre-electronic and barely electrical
1859, a "perfect space storm" shorted out
telegraph lines in the US and Europe, causing
numerous fires. It also made the Northern
Lights visible as far south as Rome, Havana and
Hawaii, according to NASA — contemporary
accounts relate how a group of campers in the
Rocky Mountains were awakened by an
"auroral light, so bright that one could easily
read common print. Some of the party insisted
that it was daylight and began the preparation of
breakfast."
In 1921, a solar storm induced ground
currents that crippled the New York transit
system. In 1989, another solar storm brought
down the entire Quebec power grid due to those
pesky ground currents, and plunged six million
people into darkness on a cold, cold Canadian
night.
Fischer sees serious trouble ahead from
the 2013 peak solar activity attacks. "I think the
issue is now that modern society is so dependent
on electronics, mobile phones and satellites,
much more so than the last time this occurred,"
he said. "There is a severe economic impact
from this. We take it very seriously. The
economic impact could be like a large, major
hurricane or storm."
That economic impact could be a "space
weather Katrina," according to a 2008 report
from the US National Academies of Sciences'
Space Studies Board entitled Severe Space
Weather Events: Understanding Societal and
Economic Impacts.
"Strong auroral currents, which wreaked
havoc with the telegraph networks during the
[1859] event," the report warns, "can disrupt
and damage electric power grids and may
contribute to the corrosion of oil and gas
pipelines.
"Economic and societal costs
attributable to impacts of geomagnetic storms
could be of unprecedented levels," the report
concludes. The cost of hurricane Katrina,
estimated to be between $81bn and $125bn,
would be piddling when compared to the effect
of a "future severe geomagnetic storm
scenario," which the report estimates could run
as high as $1 trillion to $2 trillion in the first
year. Depending on damage, the report
contends, full recovery could take 4 to 10 years.
Scary estimates, indeed, but — as with
that other scary eventuality, global climate
change — preparation could help mitigate the
effects of another "perfect space storm".
Fisher told the Telegraph that
precautions could include, for example, creating
power-grid backup systems so that if
transformers or giant load-balancing capacitors
are fried by a solar outburst, Plan B could go
into effect. "If you know that a hazard is coming
... and you have time enough to prepare and take
precautions, then you can avoid trouble," he
said.
You can keep tabs on what the sun is
throwing at us at the US National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration's Space Weather
Prediction Center. But don't worry too much —
after all, if the Mayan calendar is correct, we
need not fret about 2013.

When a movie is based on such a
prophecy, it tends to undermine the truth or
relevance behind such notions as people start
thinking that since it is happening in Hollywood
it cannot be true but the simple fact of the matter
is that a Hollywood rendering of the Mayan
prophecies, in no way, undermines the truth and
relevance of the ancient civilization. If
Hollywood were to make a movie about the BP
oil spill it would not render the real life situation
a farce.
Recent earthquakes include last nights
aftershock of the Mexicali earthquake which
struck in the heart of the Mexican desert with a
7.2 quake on Easter Sunday. The aftershock
took its time in coming but still measured 5.7 on
the Richter Scale and according to Kate Hutton,
a seismologist for CalTech, such things are to be
expected and are in no way out of the ordinary.
Then a day before yesterday on the 13th of June
a 6.1 quake struck off the coast of the Japanese
island Honshu. A day before that a 7.5 quake
struck off the coast of the Nicobar Islands
province of India and a Tsunami warning was
issued.
The trend of the recent earthquakes
shows more concentration on the coastal
countries touching the Pacific Ocean. From
Asia to North America almost all coastal
regions have been affected by tremors of some
sort with the more affected regions being East
Asia and Easter Australian regions.

Jim Morrison died in a
bathroom, so why not
haunt a bathroom?

Jim Morrison, the lead singer for The Doors,
died on July 3, 1971 in Paris, France. Tomorrow
will be the 39th anniversary of his death.
While die-hard fans make the
pilgrimage to his grave, others might have
better luck paying honor to the singer here in the
United States. Specifically, while paying a visit
to the bathroom of a certain restaurant in Los
Angeles, CA.
The restaurant is called Mexico, and it is
located at 8512 Santa Monica Blvd. As far
fetched as this sounds, there is a connection to
the whole thing that makes the ghost story seem
plausible.
The building-turned-restaurant is
actually a former recording studio, also known
as The Doors Workshop. It is the same studio
where The Doors recorded “L.A. Woman”. The
bathroom sits exactly where Jim Morrison sat in
the booth to record his vocals.
The bathroom is unisex, so Morrison’s
spirit is available to all. The bathroom looks
sizable enough to fit everyone: male, female,
and even Mr. Mojo Risin’ himself.
In a recent AOL News interview,

made a statement about the paranormal activity
in the potty: “Funky things happen all the time
we can’t explain. Lights popping on and off at
weird times. But when that bathroom door

YPSILANTI, Mich. - Police in Michigan said
they arrested a couple spotted pushing a stroller
containing two young boys, open containers of
alcohol and a bayonet. Ypsilanti police said the
30-year-old woman and 52-year-old man, who
were described as highly intoxicated, were
confronted by officers about 1:30 a.m. Friday
after the woman alleged- ly tried to take a
bicycle from a porch, AnnArbor.com reported
Monday. Investigators said the woman's sons,
ages 1 and 4, were inside the stroller along with
the alcoholic beverages and a "double-edged
bayonet." The couple, who police said were a
"long way" from home, were taken into custody
and the children were turned over to a relative
who lives nearby.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Police in Minnesota said a
15-year-old girl cited for stealing 44 pairs of
panties from a store told officers she was in
need of clean underwear. St. Paul police said the
teenager, who was caught June 19 after leaving
a Kmart store with a tote bag loaded with under-
pants she didn't pay for, asked officers if they
"expect me to wear dirty underwear," the St.
Paul Pioneer-Press reported. Investigators said
31 of the briefs were priced at $4.99 each and 13
were $3.99 each. The girl was cited for
misdemeanor theft, police said.

Man charged with $33,000 tie
theft scam
EVERETT, Wash. - Washington state
authorities said a man who claimed car thieves
stole his $33,000 silk necktie collection has
been charged with insurance fraud. The
Washington Insurance Commissioner's office
said Carlton Wopperer, 49, is facing two counts
of insurance fraud in Snohomish County
Superior Court after he allegedly claimed three
times a collection of 212 ties had been stolen
from his vehicle, the Seattle Times reported
Thursday. Wopperer received $16,900 from his
insurance company in 2000 when he reported
the theft of 212 ties, and received $33,370 in
January 2009 when he claimed a collection of
the same size had been taken from his vehicle.
However, after submitting a claim six months
later claiming the ties he purchased as
replacements were stolen, investigators
determined he had been buying ties and
immediately returning them so he would have
receipts to back up his theft claims. Insurance
Commissioner Mike Kreidler described the case
as classic insurance fraud.

he was raking his yard when he came across a

belonged to a family member, but he soon

Town law would ban
'annoying' singing
CHARLESTON, S.C. - A South Carolina town
is considering a measure that would add
singing, whistling and holler- ing to a law
banning annoying sounds on public streets.
The Sullivan Island Town Council's proposed
law, which may be ratified in July, would make
it illegal to sing, yell, shout, whistle, hoot or
holler on public streets if it is annoying nearby
people, particularly between the hours of 11
p.m. to 7 a.m., The Post and Courier,
Charleston, S.C., reported. Town Administrator
Andy Benke said the wording of the proposed
law came from an ordinance in North
Charleston, S.C. The town code already bans
crying, calling, shouting and using musical
instru- ments if they are deemed annoying by

5 Crazy Diseases
If mainstream media has made one thing clear,
it’s that we the people crave the bizarre. And
sometimes, the bizarre is beyond what anyone
could have imagined. Such is the case with
certain rare and crazy diseases -- disorders that
seem to defy reality. Unfortunately for the many
sufferers out there, some diseases, however
crazy they may be, are very real -- and equally
as frightening. Here are just a few crazy
diseases to whet your appetite for the bizarre.
Polyglandular Addison’s disease
Type of Disease: Hormonal disorder
Crazy Because: Can cause instantaneous death
from sudden emotional distress
Cure: None, but manageable by medication
In February 2008, media reports swirled
around the story of Jennifer Lloyd, a 10-year-
old from Prestwich, who is one of only six
known sufferers in the U.K. of polyglandular
Addison’s disease. Addison’s disease is a
hormonal disorder named after Dr. Thomas
Addison who first described the disease in
1855. The polyglandular form is much rarer
than the ordinary disorder, leaving affected
patients literally unable to produce adrenaline in
response to stress. Adrenaline, or epinephrine, is
the “fight or flight” hormone that prepares the
body for action. Without adrenaline, the body’s
organs cannot respond to stress and instead go
into shock and shut down, leaving those
affected critically ill. Patients such as Jennifer

About the Author

David J. Strumfels lives and writes with his wife and two
amazing (to him, at least) children in Philadelphia, PA. Actually, his
wife is amazing too, as she is a Vietnamese “boat person” who grew
up in war and Communist conquest of her land, and was fortunate
enough to survive the many ordeals she has gone through. Although
he has been to Vietnam as a tourist, in 1999, he met his wife at a local
community college in 1981.

Harlequin ichthyosis
Type of Disease: Genetic skin disease
Crazy Because: Causes the skin of newborns to
become hardened with diamond-shaped scales
Cure: None
Harlequin-type ichthyosis is the most severe
form of ichthyosis, a congenital skin disorder
affecting newborns. Like a scene right out of the
bizarre, infants with this condition are born with
hard, thick skin that forms large diamond-
shaped plates or scales that are separated by
deep cracks. Almost all areas of the skin can be
affected disrupting the protective barrier
between the body and environment. Infants
have difficulty controlling water loss, regulating
body temperature and fighting off infections.
Many newborns thus succumb to dehydration or
infection shortly after birth. For those who do
survive, the outlook is pretty bleak; only a few
patients survive into adolescence and very
rarely into adulthood.
Back in 2005, the "Real Families"
documentary series in the U.K. exposed the
lives and hardships of two pairs of sisters
afflicted with the condition: Lucy and Hannah
Betts, and Dana and Lara Bowen. The girls
went through daily routines sometimes hours on
end applying moisturizer and removing dead
skin. The Bowen’s pediatrician, professor John
Harper, summed up the outlook of sufferers of
this rare condition saying that they are "just not
compatible with living."
That's crazy
What isn’t normal tends to be intriguing. People
generally crave anything that breaks the cycle of
everyday life, and who could blame them?

The Winchester Mystery House
In 1881, Sarah Winchester, the widow of
famous gun maker Oliver Winchester, became
convinced that she needed protection from the
evil spirits of all the people killed by Winchester
rifles. A psychic advised her to continually add
rooms to her San Jose, California, mansion to
confuse any ghosts that may try to find her. (It's
not clear why ghosts, which can supposedly
move through walls, would be confused by the
rooms, but it apparently made sense to
Winchester.) She did so for nearly forty years,
adding more than 100 rooms and staircases,
until her death in 1922. After Sarah's death, her
own ghost was said to haunt the halls of her
mazelike mansion. Today the building remains a
popular tourist attraction, a bizarre monument
to superstition and paranoia.
The Amityville Horror

On Nov. 13, 1974, six members of an
Amityville, New York, family were killed by
one of the family's sons, Ronald Jr. ("Butch")
DeFeo. In his legal defense, DeFeo claimed that
demonic forces in the home drove him to kill.
The new owner of the home at 112 Ocean
Avenue later claimed a variety of ghostly
phenomena, and the story was further
fictionalized into a best-selling novel and horror
film. Yet the supernatural events were never
proven, and DeFeo's lawyer later admitted that
the story was a hoax.
Alcatraz
The San Francisco Bay's resident rock,
and perhaps the most famous prison island in
the world, Alcatraz has captured the public's
imagination in many films and books. The
prison, a cold, dank hellhole, saw many
murders, riots, and suicides during its 29 years
of service. Along the way it spawned tales of
inexplicable sounds, cell doors closing on their
own, disembodied screams, and scary
apparitions.
The Fox Sisters Cabin
Though less well-known than the other
haunted places, the Fox Sisters cottage is
perhaps the most important haunted house of
all, since the phenomena here in many ways set
the standard for later hauntings and even
launched a religion. In 1848 Hydesville,
western New York, two young sisters named
Maggie and Katie Fox began supposedly
communicating with the ghost of a murdered
peddler. The sisters, in a sort of crude seance,
would ask questions of the spirit, who would
answer back with mysterious knocks or raps.
Many people, including their mother, were
amazed at what seemed to be genuine contact
with the dead. Both sisters eventually admitted
that they had actually faked the sounds--there
had been no murdered peddler, it had all been a
prank. The women even demonstrated how they
had done it. But by then the belief had taken on
a life of its own as a religion called Spiritualism,
which is still practiced today.
The White House
The Washington, D.C., home of
America's presidents has surely seen untold
tragedy through the centuries, from being
burned down in 1814 by British troops to
several attempted (and accomplished)
assassinations. Among the White House's
spooky stories include the appearance of
Abraham Lincoln's ghost. Lincoln's widow,
Mary Todd, dabbled in the occult and held
seances in the White House. Other reputed
ghosts include Andrew Jackson, Dolley
Madison, and Abigail Adams, though they are
rarely seen today.
Pub waxing event nearly takes
testicle
BIRSTALL, England - Doctors said a
man who let friends give him a "male Brazilian"
waxing in a pub nearly lost a testicle when six
of his seven layers of skin were removed. Joe
Cooper, 24, said he and 10 of his friends were
waxing themselves at The Trees pub in Birstall,
England, as a fundraiser for a local hospital and
he was the only one brave enough to go beyond
the chest and wax his groin, The Sun reported.
"One of the peelers just got too enthusiastic and
he was pretty apologetic afterwards,"
Cooper said. "I ended up at the hospital.
You can imagine how much everyone was
laughing at me. It was ironic. I was meant to be
helping them -- and they ended up helping me.
They told me if any more skin had come off,
that would have been it. I was very lucky
really." Despite the injury, Cooper said he and
his friends earned $4,443 for the Leicester
Royal Infirmary children's ward.
Stripping sailor turned over
to captain
VICTORIA, British Columbia -
Canadian police said a rowdy French sailor who
drunkenly shed his clothes in public twice was
turned over to his commanding officer. Victoria
police said there were few problems among the
5,000 sailors visiting the city for the Canadian
Navy's centennial, but one French sailor had a
bit too much to drink and took off his uniform
in the lobby of a hotel, CanWest News Service
reported. Deputy Police Chief John Ducker said
officers escorted the sailor back to his ship
where he again slipped out of his clothing while
waiting to board. Ducker said the ship's captain
was standing behind him during the second
incident. "The punishment a sailor would get
from his commanding officer is much worse
than anything we can do," police spokesman
Sgt. Grant Hamilton said.
Deputies find goat in trunk at
checkpoint
BEDFORD, Va. - Authorities in Virginia
said they found a goat bound in the trunk of a
car stopped at a drunken- driving checkpoint.
The Bedford County Sheriff's Office said a
deputy heard knocking sounds coming from the
trunk of a car being driven by Fiona Ann
Enderdy, 32, of Washington at the Bedford
County-Campbell County line checkpoint, the
Lynchburg (Va.) News Advance reported
Tuesday. Deputies said Enderdy told deputies
the sounds were coming from a goat and the
animal was found panting heavily in the trunk.
The sheriff's office said an animal control
officer working at the checkpoint measured the
temperature in the trunk at 94 degrees after it
had already been open for 10 minutes. The goat
was given water and taken to the Bedford
County pound, deputies said. Enderdy, who was
charged with cruelty to an animal and released,
told deputies she purchased the goat from a
farmer for the passengers in her car, four
Lynchburg residents originally from Kenya.
