Eportfolio signature assignment
Rational: Theodosius Dobzhansky, a geneticist whose work influenced 20th
century research on evolutionary theory, said, "Nothing in biology makes
sense, except in light of evolution." The purpose of this activity is to gain
understanding of the theory of evolution by natural selection and of the
scientific (empirical) method.
Directive: Using the data collected during the in-class Natural Selection
activity and published information on Darwins finches, write a formal lab
report. Use the outline below as a guide to the organization (order of
information) and, along with the rubric, as a checklist to ensure that all
required components are included. Once completed, submit your lab report
through Canvas, upload it to your ePortfolio, and submit the link through
Canvas.
Lab Report :
Your lab report must include these headings: Title, Introduction, Materials
and Methods, Results, and Conclusion, Discussion, References.
1. Survival of the Fittest
2. Introduction : As the title said Survival of the Fittest form this
lab report I am going to prove the accuracy of this statement and
through data from my class activity
1 . Charles Darwin after analyzing different birds he has realized
that birds are similarly . Through finches it help him to formulating
the principle of natural selection. The result showed that some birds
died or lived due to what kind of species it belongs to and also
showed that beak structure are better adapted when there is most
abundant food
2 . Hypothesis: through the experience we did in class, it proved that
tongs and tweezer will be the dominant tools to grab seeds.
1. the tools which have biggest place to grab food or the tools
which are easier to grab seeds because of how are shaped such as
tweezer and tongs are the best to grab seeds and on another side
clothes pin and chop sticks are less accurate to grab seeds because
of theirs shape .

3. Material and Method

1.The material which are used in our class experiment were Clothes pins ,
Chops stick , tweezers , tongs , Hair clips , chips clips , empty cup and seeds
.
1. After spreading seeds on table and grabbing empty cup, we start to
take one of the tools listed above and then we grab the seeds using one
tool you have and putting the seeds you grabbed in empty cup during 30
second . After 30 second you start to count what you have grabbed . Some
grabbed more and other grabbed less , after counting , the top 3 to grab
more seed and last 3 to grab less . the last 3 take the same tool of the top 3
to grab more and eliminating the worst tools ( survival of the fittest) and
we did this 5 times and found out that certain tools decrease and have
have extinct , other tools had increased and other stayed the same .

Result:
1. Include data table , properly titled and labeled
2. By looking the table and graph after doing many trials we found out
the dominant start increasing and not dominant start decreasing and
many were extinct. As result of natural selection the one that perform
better on some circumstance are always on top and will be
developed very faster and the one which did not performed well will
become less populated because they die more that they reproduced.

5. Results:
Include a data table, properly titled and labeled. Include a graph of the results, properly titled and labeled.
Include a written summary of the results5.

Tools begin
Tongs 6
Clothes pins 6
Chopsticks 6
Tweezers 7
Hair Clips 7
Chips clips 0
Totals 32
Tools End
Tongs 6
Clothes pins 6
Chopsticks 6
Tweezers 7
Hair Clips 7
Chips clips 0
Totals 32
6 .conclusion :

1 The result prove my thesis because as you can see from my graph tongs
and tweezers become popular than chop striates and clothes pin . The chip
clip were extinct and stayed almost the same. But also beside the shape
tools by doing many trials, some may be decreasing or increasing depending
on the person themselves. By doing many trails you can see how this
hypothesis is accurate.

7 . Discussion :
Explain the scientific method and identify other fields that use the scientific method.
Discuss how this activity demonstrated your use of the scientific method.
Explain how you might use some of the steps in the scientific method outside of this class
Explain the theory of evolution by natural selection and its underlying assumptions.
Discuss how this activity simulated the theory of evolution by natural selection.
Include an explanation of the evolutionary outcome (i.e. what changed over time)

By doing this explain we seen that tools we have good shape to grab more seed have become more
popular but also we have seen controversial fact that depending on person themselves some may be
increasing or decreasing depending on how they used the tools which prove the theory of Darwin.

8 .References.
Include in-text citations and references for outside sources used and for all information that is not
common knowledge
