Problems Tackled By The Text : Types of mistreatment in the engagement

Main objective: The general aim of this investigation was to examine the general
prevalencia and for sex of some conduct of mistreatment of physical,
psychological, emotional, sexual, economic and neglectful type.

Methodology: In total there took part 902 students linked to 22 professional careers
and of master of a public Colombian university, 417 males (46.2 %) and 485 women
(53.8 %), between 15 and 35 years of age (M = 19.32 years; DT = 2.33 years). The
participants were living in neighborhoods of socioeconomic low low stratum (n = 43,
4.8 %), down (n = 312, 34.6 %), low way (n = 384, 42.6 %), I happen (n = 120,
13.3 %), high way (n = 20, 2.2 %) and high place (n = 2, 0.2 %) and they were
dealing between the first one and ninth semesters of studies, with an average of
2.37semestres dealed. These participants were selected in an incidental way, not
probabilstica, between the courses programmed for the first five semesters of the
careers in mention, in view of the interest of the investigation, being chosen those
that had or had had a pair and that were single and without children.

Physical Abuse. Any act directed the body of the person, who produces hurt or pain
on the same one (blows, kicks, slaps, pinches, attempt of strangulation, etc.).
Psychological Abuse. Any action directed to: a) to control, to restrict the
movements or to monitor another person; b) to isolate her socially; c) to devalue it,
to denigrate her, to humiliate her or to make it feel bad with it itself; d) to do on that
others put in his against, to accuse her falsely or to blame her for negative
circumstances; e) to force her to go in opposition to the law or his moral and / or
religious beliefs or f) to destroy his confidence in yes same or in the pair.
Emotional mistreatment. Any act of verbal or not verbal nature that provokes
intentionally in the victim a reaction of anxiety, dread or fear, as the intimidations and
the threats; it includes the acts of violence directed a relative or an acquaintance of
the victim, to his goods or towards the aggressor himself, realized with the same end.
Sexual mistreatment. Any obliged act not consented by the victim, directed to
satisfying needs or sexual desires of the victimario.
Economic mistreatment. To force another person to depend economically on the
aggressor, not leaving her to work or for other means; to exercise control on the
financial resources of the victim or to exploit it economically.
Negligence. Not to provide (or it not to be done due) by financial or material
resources, information or services to the pair, in spite of the fact that the aggressor is
forced to do it legally; not to offer economic or material aid to the pair when this one
needed it and the victimario was in aptitude to it make or not notice to the pair on any
danger for his physical or psychological integrity (Rey-Anacona et to., 2010, p. 171).
For effects of this study, only the answers were analyzed to the first 82 articles of this
instrument, since the 13 remaining ones go to persons who have shaped a home or it
has had children with his pair
Results: 85.6 % (n = 772) of the participants brought to have exercised at least one
of the conducts that they present in the used instrument, of which 46.9 % was males
(n = 362) and 53.1 % women (n = 410), not being situated a statistically significant
difference between these two percentages (X2 [1, 902] = .94, p = .343). In relation
with the percentage of participants that it informed at least a conduct of every type of
mistreatment, one thought that the major one was the psychological one followed by
the physicist, the emotional one, the sexual one, the neglector and the economic one

Conclusions of the text: They indicate that the ill-treatment in the engagement
would appear from the first relations of pair, that is to say, approximately from
fifteen years of age and that the percentage of teenagers and adults involved in
this type of conducts tends to be a high place in all the ages, though the size of
the sample for age is dissimilar tending to center in the range from 17 to 21 years
of age. Likewise, the statistically significant correlation between the time of relation
and the average frequency of general ill-treatment and with each of six types of
mistreatment analyzed, they indicate that these tend to increase and to diversify,
becoming strong in the dynamics of the relation of pair, for what the early
detection of those cases where they have begun to present the ill-treatment,
would allow to prevent these from increasing and lasting with the time.
