Guidelines for the Applicants
1. For the academic session 2014-2015, Visva-Bharati will conduct an All-India Admission Test
for the following Under-graduate courses based on +2 standard syllabus:
B.A. (Honours) (Code: BA) in 10 subjects of Bhasha-Bhavana (Institute of Languages,
Literature & Culture) (Bhavana Code: 01) and 6 subjects of Vidya-Bhavana (Institute of
Humanities & Social Sciences) (Bhavana Code: 02); B.Sc. (Honours) (Code: BSC) in 7
subjects of Siksha-Bhavana (Institute of Science) (Bhavana Code: 03); B.Sc. (Ag.) (Honours)
(Code: BSG) of Palli Siksha-Bhavana (Institute of Agriculture) (Bhavana Code: 07); and B. S.
W. (Honours) (Code: BSW) in Palli-Samgathana Vibhaga (Institute of Rural Reconstruction)
(Bhavana Code: 06).
Students must apply through ONLINE only.
Candidates willing to apply for more than one group (maximum 3 groups/papers) of
courses/streams for Admission to BA (Honours), B.Sc (Honours), B.Sc (Ag) Honours and BSW
(Honours) courses have to apply separately.
Admit cards to be generated at the University website: www.visva-bharati.ac.in, will show the test
centres.
Applicants will have to report at least one and a half hours before the commencement of
admission tests.
2. The qualifying marks for admission shall be 30 out of 100 for general candidates and 27 out of
100 for OBC candidates. There shall be no qualifying marks in case of SC/ST candidates.
3. The Admission Tests for all courses other than mentioned in Item 1 will be conducted in
Santiniketan and Sriniketan by the respective department, the details of which will be available
from the Adhyaksha of the Bhavana/Vibhaga (Institute) concerned or from the University website.
4. Incomplete applications are liable to be summarily rejected.
5. Where no dates for admission tests are mentioned, notifications for dates will be given in the
University website.
6. Applicants must produce their original final mark sheets of previous public examinations and
other relevant documents along with attested photo-copies at the time of admission to
various courses failing which his/her candidature will not be considered for admission.
7. Candidates coming from other Universities/Institutions must submit Migration Certificates from
their respective Universities/Institutions within 6 (six) months from the date of their admission to
this University as per rules; otherwise their admissions are liable to be cancelled.
8. Candidates should collect, on their own, information about the exact dates of publication of the
results of the admission tests 2014-2015 from the University website/offices of the respective
Institute.
9. Applicants who have passed the qualifying public examinations during last five years (including
the current year) will only be considered while seeking admission to Bachelors / Masters Degree
courses. Foreign students, however, are exempted.
10. If two or more applicants rank the same in the merit list, the candidate who has secured higher marks in
the relevant subject in the previous public examination conducted by a recognized Board / Council/
University / authority, will be given preference in the merit list while taking admission.
11. All under-graduate students shall be required to study Compulsory Foundation Courses on Tagore
Studies and Environmental Studies.
12. The candidates must bring medical certificate from any hospital or doctor with registration
number at the time of admission.
13. The Medical Insurance is mandatory. All candidates are required to pay medical insurance fee at the
time of admission.
14. Continuous absence of first 15 days after commencement of classes in all under-graduate and
post graduate classes shall result in cancellation of admission.
15. At least 50% seats in each subject in Undergraduate courses shall be filled up through admission
test; however, all seats in B.Sc. (Honours) course in Computer Science and Agriculture shall be
filled up through admission test.
16. At least 6 seats in each subject in case of Postgraduate course shall be filled up through admission
tests. However, all seats in Postgraduate course in Environmental Science and M.Sc.(Ag.) courses
in Agriculture shall be filled up through admission test.
17. 15% of intake capacity at the University level will be made available for international
students/foreign students which will be calculated as supernumerary seats. 5% of seats out of the 15%
supernumerary seats for admission of foreign students shall be earmarked for children of Indian workers in
the Gulf and South East Asia. As per Govt of India rules, wards of Kashmiri Migrants will be admitted
subject to fulfilment of departmental criteria.
18. Topper of each Board/ Council is eligible to be admitted directly without any entrance examination.
Such candidates must apply through ONLINE and subsequently must submit supporting documents
to Chairman, VBCAT.
19. Salient points regarding preparation of Merit list for VBCAT-2014.
(a) The total marks for VBCAT is 100. Distribution of marks will be as follows:
(i) 20% marks of the marks secured in the last public examination [to be calculated by taking
best of five subject marks (taking at least one language subject and three core subjects)]
to be taken into account for this purpose.
(ii) 30 marks for Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) common for all groups and duration will
be 30 minutes.
(iii) 50 marks for short answer type questions on group. The duration of examination for each
group will be one hour.
(b) Candidates appearing at VBCAT for admission to undergraduate courses of the University
should submit their marks (obtained in the last public examination) to Visva-Bharati by online
by midnight of 8th June, 2014.
20. Applicants are advised to visit our website: www.visva-bharati.ac.in for any updates
(inclusion/omission) at regular intervals.
21. No claim shall be entertained for data entry mistakes committed by the applicant at the time of
applying online.
22. All matters of dispute shall be taken to ACJMs Court Bolpur, District Birbhum under the
jurisdiction of Calcutta High Court.
GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR THE APPLICANTS

1. Reservation for SC, ST, OBC & PWD candidates


Reservation of seats for SC/ST/OBC/Physically handicapped candidates shall be as per Government rules as applicable at
the time of admission. As per the order of the Honble Supreme Court of India, reservation for OBC candidates shall not
include socially advanced persons (commonly known as the creamy layer). The onus of establishing that an OBC
candidate does not belong to the creamy layer shall rest with the candidate.
Certificates in respect of SC/ST/OBC/Physically handicapped candidates should be issued by appropriate authorities
authorized by the respective Government in this regard within their respective jurisdictions (e.g. District
Magistrate/District Collector/ Additional District Magistrate/Sub-Divisional Officer/Sub-Divisional Magistrate/ Deputy
Collector/Executive Magistrate/Taluka Magistrate/ Stipendiary Assistant Commissioner (not below the rank of First Class
Magistrate)/ Chief Presidency Magistrate/Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate/Presidency Magistrate/Revenue
Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar/Deputy Commissioners/First Class Stipendary Magistrate/ Chief Metropolitan
Magistrate, Calcutta/Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Calcutta/ Metropolitan Magistrate, Calcutta/ Collector of
Stamp Revenue, Calcutta/Deputy Collector of Land Revenue, Calcutta). Certificates issued by an appropriate authority,
who have been authorized by the Government to issue such certificates in case of candidates claiming to be Scheduled
Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates and ordinarily residing within such jurisdictions, may only be accepted.
Physically Disabled Person (Certificates from at least Sub-Divisional level Govt. hospitals are necessary)
Minimum degree of disability should be 40% in order to be eligible for any benefits.
Orthopaedically Handicapped/Locomotor disability/Cerebral Palsy
The Orthopaedically handicapped are those who have a physical defect or deformity which causes an
interference with the normal functioning of the bones, muscles and joints. All cases of orthopaedically
handicapped persons would be covered under this category.
Visually Handicapped (Blind and partially blind)
A person inflicted with any of the following disabilities shall be considered:
a) Total absence of sight;
b) with visual acuity not exceeding 6/60 or 20/200 (Snellen) in the better eye with correcting lenses;
c) with limitation of the field of vision subtending an angle of 20 degrees or worse;
The Visually Handicapped (VH) candidates should posses the latest certificates issued by an authorized
hospital under the Govt. of India/State Governments.
Hearing Impairment/Deafness
The deaf are those in whom the sense of hearing is non-functional for ordinary purposes of life. They do not hear
or understand sounds at all events with amplified speech. The cases included in this category will be those
having hearing loss for more than 60 decibels in the better ear (profound impairment) or total loss of hearing in
both ears.

Certificate of Category (SC/ST/OBC/PWD etc) must be produced during counseling. If a candidate fails to produce
the above certificate, he/she will be dropped from the panel and the next candidate in the panel will be given the
chance.
Presence of Natural Guardian of a Candidate during admission is desirable.

Outstanding Sportsperson
2 seats per Bhavana will be reserved for outstanding sportsperson.
Outstanding sportspersons are required to submit their Inter-University / Inter-state / International level certificates of
achievement in games and sports mentioning the year of the tournament & position thereof.

Not more than one type of relaxation shall be granted to any candidate.

3. How to apply.
(i) ONLINE APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Candidates have to apply for the examination through our online application system.
The online application allows the candidate to provide all information and also to upload
scanned photograph (4 cm x 3 cm) and signature.
Details of the courses, eligibility criteria and relevant information are available in the
University website www.visva-bharati.ac.in.
The application fee in case of an online application may be paid by any one of the following
ways:
Candidate can make the payment online using any of the online payment methods of Net
Banking, Debit Card, Credit Card, Cash Card, Payment through mobiles (A nominal TDR
charge would be applicable). Candidates would get INSTANT confirmation of their payments
and submissions when they pay through online payment methods as listed.
In case a candidate does not have access to an online payment method he or she can deposit the
required amount at any branch of United Bank of India (UBI) using a Bank Deposit Voucher /
Challan generated online into the following account :

4. Rights of cancellation or selection/admission lie with the Admission Committee of the Institute concerned. The
University reserves the right to limit the number of eligible applicants to be called for admission test. The
University also reserves the right to assign an applicant to another centre for admission test not
mentioned by the candidate as his/her choice.

7. Admission Centres
(a) The all-India Admission Test for the under-graduate B. A. (Honours), B. Sc. (Honours), B. Sc. (Ag) Honours
and B. S. W. (Honours) courses will be conducted simultaneously at the following nineteen centres. A
candidate has to give at least two choices. Visva-Bharati shall not be held responsible in case a centre has to
be changed due to some unavoidable circumstances like natural calamities, violence, etc.

A. Eligibility criteria for admission to Bachelor of Education Course

1. Pre-service candidates (Internal &External) and In-service candidates should have
B.A./B.Sc. / B.Mus (Rabindra-Sangit) Degree with 3-Year Honours/Major subject. The general
candidates should have at least 50% marks, OBC candidates should have 45% marks, and
SC/ST candidates should have pass marks in Honours/Major Subject from any recognized
University/Institution. The candidates must have studied any of the following subjects as
combination at graduation level, one of which should be Honours/Major Subject: Bengali,
English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Economics, Geography, History (Ancient/Modern), Music (Rabindra-
Sangeet), Philosophy, Mathematics, Statistics , Education, Physical Science (Physics/Chemistry)
and Life Science (Botany/Zoology).
2. In-service candidates should have at least 3 (Three) years experience as a full time approved
regular teacher in any secondary school recognized by the Central or respective State
Government. He/She has to enclose a copy of the No-Objection Certificate from the
competent authority/a copy of Managing Committee resolution regarding his/her deputation
and approval letter from D.I./equivalent competent authority without which the
application will be rejected.
3. Age Limit: The upper age limit is ordinarily 35 years in case of pre-service candidates and 45
years in case of in-service candidates. The age of OBC, SC & ST candidates will be relaxed as
per rule of the Government of India.
4. Selection of Method Subjects: The Honours / Major subject shall be the first teaching
method subject (PaperV). Second method subject (PaperVI) shall be offered during
